The ever knowledgeable Kate Howe sent me to your channel for Catholic fiction recommendations, and I am so glad that she did. Josephine Ward is making it onto my Classic Catholic fiction recommendations video for my Discover Catholic Fiction challenge next year. Truly, I appreciate watch another Catholic booktuber discuss Catholic fiction. 😊🙏

I've never read a Trollope, but have been meaning to. Maybe I'll try to squeeze one in this year

Right?! I thought it was such a neat tidbit of information to think of the magazine readers experiencing those two books back to back!

I wish I could see a deep dive into how modern publishers choose works of art to go with classic covers--that Framley Parsonage is a stunner! but so many to choose from!

That would be a fascinating research topic! Whenever I have to pick a cover to put up on screen I spend a while scrolling through the editions on Goodreads to pick the prettiest haha!

I'm so excited that you are reading The Woman in White! I found it slow, but ultimately exciting and rewarding... And sensational! One Poor Scruple sounds really interesting!

I thought I remember you saying that it was well worth sticking with The Woman in White! I'm about 15% of the way into the audiobook so far and definitely it very intriguing and suspenseful!

I have not read anything by Josephine Ward so you intrigued me by talking about her. Have a brilliant Victober.

Blimey what a line up, a fair bit of theology thrown in, which should contrast sharply with "Charley's Aunt". Enjoy yourself.

Chelsea’s I’m trying to be sensible too and your list sounds very doable. I always love hearing about new to me Victorian authors so really interested in what you make of Josephine Ward and how cool to see the way that well known Victorian books followed one another in monthly publications!

Great list, Chelsea! I read Mr Harrison’s Confessions in the spring, and chuckled my way through it-it’s terrific, and recalls many wonderful scenes from the TV miniseries. And I’m reading The Woman in White this Victober, too!

Yay Framley Parsonage!! I can't wait to hear what you think of One Poor Scruple! It just sounds so good! I have it on my list to read in 2025 for my goal to read one Catholic novel a month. This is a great TBR, Chelsea! Do you know of any biographies of John Henry Newman? That would be a fascinating Victober-adjacent read.

I'm halfway through One Poor Scruple now and still LOVING it! Your goal of one Catholic novel a month in 2025 sounds fantastic... I would love to see the list of titles you end up with and would be happy to join in for a buddy read or too! I haven't read any biographies of John Henry Newman, but in reading more about Josephine Ward's books, found out that her daughter was also an author and publisher and had written a Newman biography (he was a close friend of the family)!

@@VoyageofaTimeWanderer That's so exciting about One Poor Scruple! Now I really want to read it ASAP! I'll share my Catholic Novels for 2025 list with you when I have it. I'd love to have you join in for buddy reads on whichever ones you want! Oh, how interesting! I'll definitely look for that.

I have been trying to get to Silas Marner for the past two years so, It is tops along with The Sign of Four and No Name. I did start No Name already but am only about 200 pages in out of almost 800 pages. I will see if I have time for more. I always plan too much.
