As a lacrosse guy, the Wemby backspin strip on KD resembles something called a "rusty gate check" , which is an advanced defensive move to strip the ball The only difference is that in lacrosse the defender uses a 6 foot long stick to do this, and Wemby can just do it with his arms. Truly a different species of human

Most of the time, we see a headline of "insert player has arrived" usually 2/3rds of the way through the regular season, in their first playoff run, or even a few years into their career. The fact that Wembanyama is getting people to say this when his NBA career is barely 2wks old tells me that the next 15 or so years is gonna be something special.

Ok so I'm a total basketball casual but I think you hit on something big here Russillo, and that is the fact he gets off-ball mis-matches and then literally anybody can throw it up in a 10ft area around him and he'll catch it and dunk it over anyone. Feels like there is something that could break the NBA here.
@Nr4747 Жыл бұрын
Kind of true, but in the NBA, you still need to set those situations up when the defense is set, with pick and rolls or nice cuts by Wemby - which he does beautifully.

Well he has to get the open lane to even get that tall pass for an alley-oop. But its a matter of how much better him and his teammates read defenses to get those positions consistently and attempt to convert something like that. Because even a 3 point shot with nobody really boxing Wemby out is an alley-oop attempt or a putback waiting to happen.

Yeah Wemby's body/movement/instincts redefines defensive recovery all on his own. Many lengthy rookie defenders will get burned defensively because veterans will just know how to finesse them to some degree to get past and drive hard to the hoop. Except with Wemby even by 2-4 steps trailing will stick out his treant ass limbs get a piece of the ball. Its going to be crazy when he picks up on small stuff like knowing when to stick out his arms in space when helping on defense to deflect a pass. Or if his hands get fast enough he can poke at ball handlers who aren't good defending their dribble from long angles.
@andrewshandle Жыл бұрын
Vic's lineup numbers with and without Sochan on the floor are pretty crazy. Pop needs to move Tre Jones into the starting lineup ASAP and staple him to Wemby, having a real PG on the floor with him at all times needs to be the top priority. Sochan seems like a great team mate but for whatever reason those two just don't work on the floor at all, and Wemby and Jones have been one of the best duos in the league.

@arturoramirez883 Жыл бұрын
You don’t know what you’re talking about in the last two games Sochan has had 14 assists with only 1 turnover, this is their 5th game EVER and Sochan first season ever as the point. Sochan defensive versatility is so good that it trumps Tre Jones playmaking, we saw it last night Booker was cooking Jones early in the fourth until Sochan came in and Booker disappeared in the late fourth quarter. When you have a player that can guard Curry and Lillard on the perimeter and players like Lebron in the interior at an ELITE level you have to start him
@andrewshandle Жыл бұрын
@@arturoramirez883 look at his lineup data at BB-Ref. This shit is freely available, no excuse to not look up stuff before saying people are wrong. Sochan kills spacing. Sochan + Wemby are -16.5 pts per 100 possessions. Sochan doesn't have one 3 man lineup in the positives, and only one 4 man lineup, and only 18 minutes in total where he was in the positive. He's -55 for the season, and doesn't have a single game with a positive +/-. Sochan's on/off is -28.1 per 100 possessions, that's a disaster. He needs to be on the bench as the guy who subs in for Victor, not playing with him.
@andrewshandle Жыл бұрын
@@kb5509 Victors development needs to be top priority, not Sochan's. Putting victor with an actual PG gives structure and has been insanely successful so far too. Sochan on the court with Wemby has been a disaster so far.

Even with Kawhi(say what you want about what happened with his injury) Spurs developed him so well. If Spurs don’t trade for Kawhi and he stayed with Pacers in 2012, he would not be the player he became. With Pacers, they had Roy Hibert and Lance Stephenson at the time.
