If anyone's wondering why the audience seems less than enthused by this amazing performance, the description of the original upload (which was around 2014, if memory serves) provides an answer: This was during some form of music/bass camp at 8 in the morning after hours of rain. The fact that people still showed up to watch at all is praise enough if you ask me :D

I attended and recorded the audio for this performance. It was a rainy morning in April 2012 at Mako Music in Richmond, VA. Victor was gracious enough to come and play for these young students early in the morning eventhough he had two Flecktone shows later that day. That speaks to what kind of a person he is ❤

Great comment! But I think the realization of what a bass guitar is capable of really boils down to what Victor Wooten is capable of. Kinda like the capabilities of a paintbrush vs. who is painting with it. Not taking anything away from your inspiration, but perhaps adjusting where the inspiration truly came from. Great comment though! You made me think in a different perspective for sure.

I'm sure I don't need to say this, but Victor is seriously one of the best bassists and musicians to ever live. He speaks the musical language better than many of us can speak our own native tongues. He could have filled this performance with many different techniques, but instead he opted for a simplistic approach that makes playing the bass look incredibly easy and natural - even the more complex parts! He is a true master of his craft.

Have you ever heard of beethoven? Mozart? This victor guy is just not even close...
@JXter_ Жыл бұрын
@@jackfrosthamgamer3495 Yes, I have heard and studied both of those composers. I go to university to study and play this stuff. While Mozart and Beethoven are fantastic composers in their own right, and I'm not at all diminishing their accomplishments and innovations, it is equally valid to hold contemporary musicians in that same league. The context of music has changed, as well. In the days of Mozart and Beethoven, the study of composition was fundamentally different than how it is today, and how it was in Victor's time. While their music is more complex, it also was very much a product of the time and involved study and innovation of their fellow and past composers. Victor Wooten has done exactly that, and also has an understanding of music that arguably is much more globally-informed than Mozart and Beethoven, who generally studied Western classical art music. Victor Wooten has studied that as well as music that has been influenced by many cultures from all around the world; jazz itself is a uniquely-American genre with strong roots in African and Creole music, all of which did not exist in either Mozart or Beethoven's spheres of study in their time. Is it fair to compare these musicians? No, because they were born centuries apart, and context matters. Is it fair to hold all three to the level of respect and recognition they deserve? Absolutely, and me praising Victor Wooten is by no means putting down Mozart or Beethoven or any other great Classical composer.
