This statement of purpose won my 2 full PhD scholarships at the University of Warwick and University of London (SOAS). It was earned me a merit award for an MA programme in politics at the American University, Washington DC.

I Have noticed sequence of writing SOP as follows: 1) aspiration 2)Research interest 3) learning from Retrospective events 4) modules you took in Masters n Bachelors 5) what u tend to do in Ph.D I think, I can also write in the sequence given above.

I think this particular SOP is mostly suited for those aspiring for PhD career in Law or Political Sciences, some modifications will need to be made for Engineering guys particularly at the last two paragraphs. My submission based on my findings so far .

you have about 9 paragraphs on this SOP, I like your storytelling ability, it connects the purpose to why you need the Ph.D. I wish someone with an engineering focus can put in some presentations. I don't know if I may suggest an area you should also investigate in your research which is, the effect of social media as a tool of propaganda in influencing voters' perceptions about a candidate when they switch parties.- the 8th senate president, Dino, and few others were victims. fortunately for them, some of the propaganda against them has been proven to be wrong. - You have more work to do Dr.

Victor, I appreciate you for a good job always. I want you to kindly shed more light here please.... I saw PhD research openings by a university in Europe. The professors stated they need PhD students in those research interest areas. So to contact these professors, through their stated mails, (1) do I need to write to them showing my interest in those research interest areas, OR (2)do i need to submit a research proposal to them, matching their research interest areas? (3) do i need to write to them showing my interest in those research interest areas AND THEN submit a research proposal matching their research interest areas? Your prompt response on this will be appreciated please.

Hello Victor, I am Adeoye Abiola,42 years with Bsc Economics from Lagos State University.(2008) After many applications were turned down by Universities in Canada for my Masters program due to low cgpa(2.65),I finally got admission to study Liberal Acts (but Diploma) at University of Regina. My issues is how to write S.O.P. to these effect; * Isn't it a downgrade going for a diploma * Saying anything about the Bsc Economics certificate appropriate while writing the SOP? A fantastic one. However, is this not more than 500 words, which is often the demands by most universities.

Not really? Some are more than 500. Some give you specific questions to reply to and they will say "250 words for each questions). However, when a school indeed says 500 words, it has 10% +/- grace or allowance. Which means, it could be 10% lesser than 500 words or 10% more than 500 words (that's like the elasticity). Any would be accepted.
