We don't know much about Victoria 3 but the screenshots that are available on the Steam page might reveal more information, in this video I am taking a close look at these screenshots and try to extract as much information from them as possible.

One thing I noticed: The King has an icon of Interest Group, but the Group with this icon isnt in the government. My guess is that this is the reason why the Legitimacy of the Government is low, since Elected groups are not favored by the King, creating a sort of tension between King's and Groups' agendas.

@Oritra Kar Hanover is a dynasty name, that Queen Victoria belong to. As for regnal number and it's appearence, It is a matter of change. On release all historical leaders probably will have the closest depictions of them from old photographs or paintings, so dont worry.

Also, I doubt that Victoria 3 will have the same problem of having features cut out so they could be added in again. Mainly because Victoria 2 had two DLC's and Ck2 had 30. So there is just not as much content to cut.

What they did was remove the grey uncolonized lands of Victoria 2, making them into tags - those tags are unplayable, but they weren't playable in Victoria 2 either (since they didn't exist in that game). Literally the only nation in Victoria 2 that doesn't seem to be playable in Victoria 3 is the Zulu, and they've said they haven't settled on if it should be unplayable or not. That is concerning, if Paradox applies the Crusader Kings blockers for countries in other games this could become a pattern where we will be forced to buy DLC to play certain countries (even if that's not the case for Victoria 3). I do not like that prospect one bit, focus trees in HOI4 technically did just that by giving certain countries focus tree while leaving other in what is essentially almost an unplayable state. One of the pillars of PDX GSG games was always the fact that you could play as any country in the game, CK2/3 took that away and I hope we won't see an extension of that approach in future games.

Most of CKIIs DLCs added things in that weren't available from launch. Sword of Islam for example. At launch, only Christian kingdoms were playable (same if you don't own any DLCs). They did not take things away and lock them behind a paywall (unlike Stellaris, where many DLC locked features can still be accessed via console commands), they added in new features via DLC.

Imperator kind of rails it’s pop/simulation in too much. Either way I’m sure there’s going to be a Cold War mod for Victoria III that will be its Kaiserreich. I think the failure of imperator was partly because it failed to have a loyal base of paradox fans but didn’t appeal to the CKIII crowd. This game hopefully will focus on the core paradox crowd and let them market the game to other strategy people.

I honestly see the Victoria engine being very fitting for the Napoleonic era as well. It would do a much better job of representing both military conflict / battles, and socio-political / ideological gyrations than what EU4 does. 1776, 1789, 1804, 1814 and 1821 would all make for excellent start dates, either as mods or should paradox consider an expansion in that direction.

@@Marcoz588 Definitely. I think the napoleon wars are why they set it after that time period is over but the revolution is better captured by victoria. I think 1791-1939 is the most they could expand the timeline. But a cold war setting is perfect for Victoria but doesn't work for Hoi.

I think what you call reforms will be found in the Laws section of the Politics screen, Institutions are a new mechanic.

I think the interest groups under the government tab are the government. I don't think there are political parties, there are just interest groups that make up the ruling party rather than pops indirectly feeding into parties, they feed into interest groups that take power in coalitions. Crises are going to be a core part of the game, it's how expansion diplomatically is handled; the stream after the reveal discussed that.

From what we've been told bureaucracy cost is how many laws you can maintain and isn't a endlessly generating currency like political power but a cap that probably is tied to admin costs so these laws have an upkeep or cost to them

My only worry so far is the UI (looks like Total War and Imperator had a baby) and The numbers which look very simplistic. Which isn’t bad but compared to Vicky 2 it’s very bad in my opinion. This is either gona be a very successful launch or a hard failure due to the huge fan base and high standards for this game.

They've already updated the UI - the screenshots on victoria3game.com are from a newer version of the game than Steam's, and some parts (the date area) look significantly better already. Most of the UI is basically placeholder stuff at this point.

The only thing that I absolutely hate with a dying passion is the map. I wanted my damn coloured nations with a ton of different provinces and states like in Vic2. I don't like how the cities can be seen, or how little provinces there are, or how the map is way too Imperator-like, or how there doesnt appear to be the ton of interesting map modes you can analyze. If they kept the same style of the Vic2 map, a flat map with coloured nations and hell I would've liked more provinces to get more interesting shapes that would influence how battles would be handled I would've 100% preordered. I'll hold off and see if it improves, because if not, I'm gonna skip it.

On the Infastructure and Infrastructure usage, my thought would be Infrastructure is how much you have available, usage would be how much you're actually utilizing. This might affect how many goods get shipped out depending on if you go over the Infra value.

Important for the game-speed is that the day-time is presented. Maybe each day will tick multiple times for each daytime, multiplying the overall game time by the amount of daytimes.

I think (and hope) the mask icon isn't about "cultures" (as in : minorities, like you say) but about culture (arts), which is severely underexploited in Vicky 2, and in Grand Strategy in general. I really hope there is a higher focus on countries trying to be the peak on artistic innovation : universal expositions, mecenes, artistic revolutions, trying to decide whether the Eiffel Tower will be built in the USA or France (or elsewhere...).

However, if you're going to have a game that encompasses conflicts such as The Great War (and if their current "colonization" system remains the same) then you've got to have something substantial. They also said the game will have around the same amount of provinces as in HoI4 for moving armies around and colonizing. The move to 3d is a problem since mastering 3d modelling is more difficult than 2d art. That, and importing models into the games is not a process that is as simple as importing an image, there are many factors that must be taken into account.

Maybe even unavoidable super powerful rebellion events like with the Dutch Revolts in EU4. Certain choices being optimal for their political skew as opposed to others. Etc. We will see.
