I love how at 0:50 Lord M is like "oh shit, she saw me looking at her. Look away and play it cool!"

Alexander wanted to marry victoria but russian officials knocked some sense into him saying he is an heir of an empire, he later becomes the tsar, frees the surfs, and is assassinated by anarchists
@mediocremaiden88832 жыл бұрын
Um...I wouldn't say he so much as "freed the serfs" as much as he just called it by a different name...They were still enslaved and had to keep working the land to "pay back" the money the Landowners were losing. That's how he pacified the landowners and how it happened. Life in Russia in the 19th Century was like life in the Dark Ages. Like... God took a giant shit, such a big giant dump he decided to call it the *Russian Empire* We love Ukraine ! 🇺🇦

It's Ironic, but as my family says "people genuine kindness is often seen as BADNESS in the eyes of others"

I love Rufus, but this is historically accurate like aliens in WW1.

is it just me, or does this Grand Duke look just like Hans in the movie Frozen?

She and the Russian prince were good friends. He would have loved to have married her because they were so amicable, but they were both heirs. They stayed good friends until his death.

This was not sexual harassment. Victoria was very well charmed by the Russian Grand Duke and he with her. It wouldn’t have worked but Victoria enjoyed every moment of her time with the Russian.

As a Russian, I can say this is typical British bs

Victoria was no Jenna Coleman…and this alleged romance with Melbourne is pure fiction…yes she was goggle eyed at him but more like a father figure. Also she loved Albert as soon as she saw him on the visit when he was grown up…none of that teasing and ignoring for however long it was in the show…she was head over heels at once

French was official language at the Russian Court during a long time. By the beginning of the XIX century, more than 70% of Russian nobles almost didn't speak Russian.Children of the Russian nobles began to learn French from the cradle and knew it better than Russian. Only Alexander's father Nicholas I made Russian language as official language of Russian Court. But French still was very popular. At the trial of 1826, many Decembrists testified in French, because their Russian language was very bad. It was one of the few languages which knew almost every Russian noble. That's why Victoria speaks with Alexander French. The beginning of Victoria's reign was only the beginning of becoming English as world language.

@@AlexLambre Other than that, France is the Lingua Franca, or Diplomatic Language. It replaced Latin and replaced by English.

To be fair, as aristocrats, it likely would have been the one language they would have had in common
