A lot of people need to learn this. History used to be taught in grade school. Nowadays they don't even teach it in college. And yes, this is among the greatest of modern tragedies. How can we know where to go when we don't know where we've been?

the line I still love the most is "no one succeeds in heartbreak". It is such a simple line, compared to the other wonderful metaphors and wordplays she uses in this poem, but I feel like that line is the..turning point. She lists off all these things you could do, how to succeed and in the end it's just that. It's a miserable feelings, but everybody goes through it, everybody loses. And there's no succeeding a loss. Thank you for this wonderful poem. As someone who just went through a breakup, it first made me feel sad, then a little gigglish and lastly powerful. I'm not okay, and that is okay. Because everyone is a little not-okay once in a while.

Just ended a nine year relationship because he got someone pregnant, the baby was born a few days ago. I’ve never been so broken. This poem is more than entertainment. It’s motivation, it’s courage, it’s reality. Thank you for giving me strength when I need it the most.

I hope you heal, I hope you are okay, in my case he ended a 8 year relationship, we were engaged, and were getting married in a month, not only he left me broken, he left me in debt, he left me because he couldn't understand I was getting a manic episode from all the stress. This was 8 years ago, and I'm still healing. Sometimes I remember him fondly and it hurts, but I will heal and forget him, I know I will

This is probably my favorite poem of all time. It honestly shows what almost anyone goes through; heartbreak, while still being different and diverse all at the same time, without romanticism. The wording is gorgeous and flows off the tongue beautiful. It's exactly how I felt when I had my first heartbreak, and when I have another, I know I can have this poem to turn to.

this poem made me feel things I have not felt a while. the last time I cried until I was trembling, was the night I found out I had been cheated on. over and over. the night my heart was broken. the reason I trust nobody, why I locked myself away and hated the thought of ever being in a relationship again. but this poem made me cry like a baby, the only time since that night that I have cried so hard I couldn't stop shaking. I am a god damn queen, and I'll always remember that. this is my all time favorite poem. thank you for teaching me it's okay not to be okay.

Coming back here after a heartbreak 2 yrs ago. I did what she said. I let myself feel all the pain for months until i can't feel the pain anymore. Going back every night to everything that hurts me became my routine. One day, i realized i can't feel anymore. My heart probably became desensitized with the pain. Then i started again. Before i knew it, i was already better. That's what i learned. You must face the pain and let yourself feel it is the quickest way to get over a heartbreak instead of constant avoiding it and keeps finding someone that will tend it. At the end of the day, it's you who should be helping yourself.
