Such a good video with clear instructions throughout with useful tips along the way. This had to be the best video I have seen for making a fabric covered box. Thank you for taking the time to show everyone how to do this. You have made it look so simple!

Would love to make one of these. I wonder if a pretty elastic band attached in some decorative way on top could be stretched around the bottom and would hold the box together when it was lifted. I really like the padded inside sections for pins and needles, and the tiny thimble holder.

Rinske, I have a pyramid Victorian needle box kit .... with no instructions. How do I make the ‘lid’ for this one?
@susanhenshaw639
@susanhenshaw639 4 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't put a lid on a pyramid... Attached a nice 🎀 (1/2" wide - I'd use grossgrain - it's sturdier) to one side of the pyramid about 1-2" from the top. Pull all three sides up, tie around the top in a nice bow. Leave enough to bow cut the ends =< to prevent fraying. Hope that works! 😘

What type of glue are you using? Tacky glue?

That was a great description of how to apply the fabric to bridge the base of the external walls of the Sewing Box, and how to create the perfect 'Hinge' whilst maintaining the appearance the mitred corners at the base & sides. For a complete beginner in the craft, would you recommend the use of a mitred template rather than chance eyeballing the cut and making a mess? And what kind of glue are you using? Thank you.

Really great tutorial , maybe a silly question but are you using regular PVA glue or a Fabric glue ?

She's using bookbinder's glue. It's wonderful stuff. Look for Lineco neutral pH adhesive. It holds paper, cardboard, fabric, etc. My uncle used to work for a book binder way back in the day... 😄 he used to make me the most beautiful little journals out of scrap paper complete with gorgeous end papers.

I understand gluing on that paper pad, but why wouldn't you place the chipboard in a corner so you could use the same page, again? You could have done all 4, one at a time, on the one page. Just wondering.

I agree, I think I would economize by using one corner at a time. But maybe it was easier when filming it not to have to fiddle with arranging the cardboard so carefully. I also thought maybe newspaper could be cut and stacked and used one sheet at a time. Having a clean surface for multiple gluing steps has always been a struggle for me, so this is giving me good ideas for trying myself.
