don't you also need witnesses who would hold you accountable? isn't that the reason why the whole community (however small or big). the marriage is the exchange of the vows and the rest is the celebration and people celebrate howver they choose. I mean Jesus was in a wedding party, cha! Now, we want to be more spriritual than jesus? even when marriage small and low key, they had the same problems, the difference people stay in failed marriage because of family pressure, communit pressure and financial pressure. I have spoken to women who have stayed till death do them part and with their own mouths they saud that they would not rcommand their daughters to be married.

The guest tend to enjoy the wedding more than the groom and especially the bride. The minute the bride is proposed to, so much of the planning for the wedding fall on the bride. The pressure for the style of her hair, dress, heels etc. The guest gets an invitation; show up to a nice location, wear a nice outfit, get free food and drinks then leave and go about their lives.

Thank you Minister Victoria. I can relate. I got married and waited a year whilst preparing a wedding after dowry. Its years later when I had an understanding that it was a wedding for people. Challenges and tribulations came but the foundation of knowing what is marriage was not there. Divorce happened and the blames of both families were traumatic. My dowry was never finished because the wedding had so much bills . The bills that we paid for months afte the wedding. I agree to what you have said , I always say if i am to get married again, it will be the two of us not public.

You kind of look at the title and think “I know exactly what she’s going to say” but BOOM the Holy Spirit brings a deeper revelation of what you “thought” you already knew. I think I have been asking my Father for marriage but to be honest I have been asking Him to be validated in the eyes of society. His validation is all I need. My good good Father. I have always held that opinion. Small wedding bcos the journey is yet to start.nothin to show off. If after 15 or 20 years u decide to renew ur vows then u can do a big party bcos u hav stood the test of time. That is if after those years both are still happily married. It's not wise to do big weddings now and invite all kinds of hearts and minds to come witness ur marriage..safeguard the union. Don't attract unnecessary attention.

Mental space is limited… too much on a matter takes up space from other matters. Hence, too much focus on the wedding ceremony makes it less likely there is depth in the marriage readiness.
