Comparison of the Victorinox Ranger Grip 178 and the One Handed Trekker. These are the larger folding swiss army knives that would be great for survival, bushcraft, or EDC (every day carry). These knives are also a great value, having multiple tools all in one ergonomic platform. Please like, subscribe, share, and comment down below. Thanks!!!!

The bottle opener / screwdriver / wire stripper locks automatically when you press the end down while it's fully open. It moves in a little and locks.

@@lvhdmya4807 I own this exact same Ranger Grip model and yes, the bottle opener/screw driver tool locks into place when strong enough inline pressure is applied. But only locks when being pressed into something like turning a screw and the lock is immediately released when the pressure is removed.

about my tracker I could only get the one with the serrations on the front 3/4 of the blade. That sucker cut like nobody's business but you couldn't even make feather sticks with it because it was chisel ground and just dug in far too deep. I was told the fine edge knife was no longer available so i bought the serrated model and just re-profile the edge

Thats definitely one way to do it lol, I just think they are really missing out on alot of potential, self reliance outfitters has the 178 i think it is in green like mine but with a plain edge blade. I do want to grab one of those lol, im not big on serrations myself...sure they work better for certain things but I dont find myself needing them.

Good afternoon... I could confirm this doubt I have. It seems to me that the serrated part in ma 178 is on the upper side and not on the back. In other words, the reverse of sawing on any 111 mm like the soldier... Wouldn't this make it more suitable for a left-hander than for a right-hander? I know that opening and blocking are right-handed... But the serrated blade looks like it's for a left-hander

I have the sentinel, I wanted to upgrade to the ranger grip or Forest grip but wasn't sure. I see the blade profile is slightly different I like a full flat but I also don't know if the ranger is a hollow or. What but I definitely want the other multi tools.

My ranger grip has a flat grind surprisingly lol, from the tip to about halfway down the blade is full flat then transitions to more of a saber grind for the rest of it. Mine is serrated which im not wild about lol but self reliance outfitters has it in green with a plain blade, the one from SRO wasn't made yet when I bought mine or I would have got it 🤣 I do prefer a plain blade lol. I got a really good deal on ebay for the non-serrated one handed trekker, so don't forget about checking the secondary market if used doesn't bother you. Etsy might be a good place to look as well, I know as people have less and less money you'll start seeing good deals creep up. 👍

@coyotesnipe 2 жыл бұрын
The trekkers are chisel ground. If you put a V edge on the serrated trekker, it almost makes the serrations go away. That’s what I did because the plain edge trekkers are hard to find and expensive when you do find one,,,
@alphaomegasurvivalsupply6548
@alphaomegasurvivalsupply6548 2 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't say theyre chisel ground because they're not, they're flat ground with a chisel edge. The non serrated have a conventional v edge, but im not to worried about the serrations cuz I'm sure eventually they'll sharpen out haha.

@@TheTrueNorth11 Yes, the Victorinox serrations are indeed easy enough to sharpen. I use a little Victorinox pen-sized diamond sharpener. Don't know why this idea of Victorinox serrations being difficult to sharpen is repeated so often. And I am no great blade sharpener.
@duncdunc76
@duncdunc76 2 жыл бұрын
@@davidsiegel9847 I agree as I also don't understand why people say they're hard to sharpen. I've been using my OHT daily for work and play for like 15 years and when it eventually needs sharpened I just use a round pocket sharpening rod and it's ready to rock and roll again in about 5 minutes. Of course anyone that has one knows that the serrated blade will cut for a long time even when not super sharp which is a big benefit of the serrated blade for daily use longevity.

Serrations on a knife blade are completely different in use from a wood saw. Apples and oranges. Many Victorinox users love those serrations. These are general utility knives. Not "tactical" or defensive. Actual camp, bushcraft, DIY project usage vindicates those serrations for many. Cheers!
