If you open more than one tool at one time, some opposite tools can be much much stiffer to get out due to inside mechanic that push against each other. One tool at a time is a breeze.

Across the back is the Awl, the Parcel Hook, the Chisel, the Mini Screwdriver, and the Corkscrew. The Ranger is the smallest Victorinox that includes all the back tools that Victorinox make for their 91mm knives. The only tool I'd want for this is the Philips instead of the Corkscrew. That was on the Master Craftsman, but that has been discontinued. The Corkscrew appears to be favored over the Philips, even though most people will never use it to open a bottle. Probably because of the utility winding things into the Corkscrew provides.

I've cut 1cm thick metal link using that saw, its damn useful, even though its meant to be used on wood, it did work on soft metal and it was fine even after that. There are only two tools I've never used on Swiss, and those are can-opener and parcel hook.

Good review. I hate red scales so I bought green "plus" scales so I also have the Vic pen. I also put the Vic micro driver in the corkscrew and a suspension pocket clip on the split ring. I carry it every day with a 4" Vise Grip for more utility at a reasonable weight than any "toolbox" multi tool like the Leatherman Rebar.

I have carried SAKs since I was a child but cannot typically do so as an adult now. It peeves me that in Australia (the nanny state) we cannot carry these “knives” without a “valid reason”. I have always loved the convenience and functionality of a SAK with a good set of tools to help solve unforeseen problems. Even some mining companies don’t let workers or contractors carry multi tools unless the blade has been removed. I doubt anyone has ever been stabbed with a SAK as there are more deadly easier to access blades for that. Let us have our SAKs and multi tools back for every day use and practicality. If I wanted to hurt or kill so one I’d carry a hunting knife.

I work for the Justice Department in my State in a roll approving use of explosives and hazardous chemicals etc and not quite ready for forced retirement if I get a criminal conviction for carry g what someone else has deemed to be a weapon. Sad as we used to be allowed to carry SAKs in the cabin on commercial aircraft until after 911. Thanks for your gr8 review video.

Switzerland is in Western Europe. Almost the archetype Western nation. Victorinox pocket knives not traditionally multitools. Those are pliers-based. But for younger generations perhaps the word multitool is changing. The pocket knife pliers on some models are more super tweezers, or finger tip extensions. They are not meant to be the same as a multitool pliers. Chisel on the back. No prying devices whatsoever on this, or most any Victorinox until you get to their multitools. Vic files are excellent. Can cut most nails and screws. A Ranger and a basic drop-forged slip-joint pliers (a dollar or two used at flea market or house sale) is still lighter than a big multitool. Or a mini Vise-Grip even better. My only complaint is that I cannot get the hook out. But then again, I almost never need to. The awl I learned about as a kid. Open the corkscrew first--might help. But they are a bit easier with useage. And VERY effective. Anyway, this model is the best compromise between too few tools, and the way too bulky Swiss Champ. For a basic tool set, cannot beat the Vic Pioneer in Alox (was issued to Swiss soldiers for about 40 years). Thicker knife, stronger backsprings, and awl comes out the end. Models available with scissors, and with saw. The Ranger is not going to disappoint any serious knife kid, even those past 60. Never even touched a lock blade until after age 60. Weren't any around when I was a kid, or that we ever heard of, aside from illegal Italian knives. Even the Buck was still to come, and far away in America and hard to get in my country then. I cut myself more with lock blades than old fashioned slips joints! All that one-handed opening and closing. Rambling is ok! We want to know both objective facts, and a reviewer's personal take on a knife. Do some long-term reviews, and small project demos on Vic knives. Thanks for the review... thumbs up!

Pretty neat set of tools, and the victorinox saw is great! Would prefer a the phillips screwdriver from the tinker over the corkscrew. My current edc is the standard size tinker, does most things i need it to do, and in combination with that i bring some small tongue and groove pliers as i find the Leatherman (wave in my case) always comes short in gripping what i need it to grip.
