Having a Huntsman there have been numerous occasions I needed a file. Today I used the Huntsman saw cutting a half inch, thirteen mm, PVC pipe. Then its cut edges needed to be smoothed, wished I had the Ranger; it will be my next SAK. My Leatherman Wave has a file and was a few feet from my position, I used its file. Although my Leatherman Wave has been with me almost from their release date it always felt uncomfortable loose in the pocket, hanging from a lanyard on a belt, and their belt pouch feels awkward. The SAK Huntsman is more comfortable, and half the weight of the Leatherman Wave. My Huntsman has the plastic pocket clip, which is screw on replacing the ring, often I forget it is in my pocket.

It's always the way, the one tool you need will often be the one tool you don't have. I like the Ranger very much but day to day I often go lighter.

Great video thanks. I have many of them like Champion Plus, Handyman, CyberTool M & Midnite Mini Champ SAK. I like the bigger SAK'S best. Just bought the Renger Grip 71 Boatsman. I always EDC my Swiss Champ XLT on my belt. Never leave home with out a SAK. I will at times have the rest of my SAK'S near by in a pack with a Leatherman Rebar & other EDC stuff at times.

The midnight manager is great, the scales have a pen and led light. I have one on my van fob. Rambler on my keys, urban edc a compact and a Swiss champ mostly bag carry in a pouch. Eyeing up a climber in camo…..

At marker 0:30 ‘Climber’ good answer! I have 7 Climbers, 1 Traveller ( basically a Climber without the key ring eyelet) and 2 Deluxe Climbers. I am not going to tell you just how many SAKs I have. You would think I’m crazy. Great video, though.

The extent of our respective addictions need not trouble us. That we agree on the climber or any other is merely evidence of the quality of the item.

I love them all and like you I have around 10 but my current top 3 i.e. the ones that feature most regularly in my rotation are my Climber with black plus scales, with pocket clip attached; Farmer X with Nite Ize Hip Clip attached; and black Swisschamp which travels in the 5th pocket of my jeans

I think everyone has a perfect or near perfect combo and curiously it changes from time to time.

The number of steps a SAK saves me each year would be an interesting calculation. I rarely use the blades but the Phillips screwdriver, can opener, awl and caplifter are called upon regularly. The Tinker is my daily in town multi tool due to its size. In the field the One Handed Trekker rides along in my pack. My wife has the climber and the cork screw has come in handy for untying knots as well as its intended purpose. I do keep a small SAK with scissors in my FAK. Highly practical pocket tools for those unexpected tasks.

Yep, you said it. There are plenty of folders I find more appealing but none I carry or reach for more frequently.

That's a great collection! These days I'd be hard pressed to pick a favorite out of mine, I rotate through them and carry them all. And if I lost any of them, I'd probably instantly replace them. 😆Cheers, buddy!

I carry various “main knives” in my jean coin pocket, but my little Classic SD is always connected to my keys and is used almost every day. The fact it has scissors liberates my main blade to a thinner model. (Camper) Great pocket friendly combo.

I love the scissors for delicate snipping tasks. Can't beat it for threads, etc. And I actually prefer the 58mm scissors. So my "favorite SAK" is a Rambler on my keys and a Hiker in my pocket.

I use a Bic lighter for threads but you do have to be careful or very quick LOL

I can't believe that Victorinox doesn't have a "Build Your Own Knife" option on their website. I understand how the production process works and the efficiency of it, but maybe open a Special Build department and evaluate the demand. I believe they'd be so slammed with custom orders that they'd realize the revenue potential and make it work.
@simonh6371
@simonh6371 Жыл бұрын
No I think they'd lose revenue and they know that. They know that many of us keep buying them in a never ending quest for the perfect toolset, or just to have different ones for different situations. If you could buy a custom one they would risk people like us just buying one and done, as they can last a lifetime.

As much as I like the Climber, I prefer the Compact or the Huntsman. The saw rarely is useful but it barely ad weight to the knife.

My edc is the Huntsman and Pioneer X Alox
@fadingmargins
@fadingmargins Жыл бұрын
All bases covered right there, is one your favourite?
@miklospinter
@miklospinter Жыл бұрын
Well, the Pioneer was designed decades before they came up with the combo tool :D The 93 mm Alox were introduced in 1957 already, even before they started adding a key ring to the SAKs. Of course they are heavy - because they are a lot sturdier than the Cellidor models. Not a lot of tools, indeed... But that made them good enough for the Swiss Army for 47 years. And I love that in-line awl. It's a piece of pointy and sharp piece of steel - so with a little creativity, it can be used for all kindsnof random tasks.

I guess that is joy of the SAK - something that works for everyone in every circumstance.

What’s in a name? I don’t own a SAK because I’ve always hummed and haad about which would be most useful to me. Funnily enough, I too lean towards a Climber and yet I never have nor am likely to climb anything except a step ladder!

I'm embarrassed to say that my collection may exceed yours. Indecision has it's price. Like you, I'm a big fan of the Climber and those wonderful pocket scissors. On a recent road trip of about 7500 Km, it was a Farmer X that kept me company. And good company it was! While I'm attracted to many other pocket knives and tools, it is the SAK that I return to, time and again. For me, the most utility for the size and convenience. 🟨🟦
