You can do it! 🙂 I loved the one you made, and we have something similar in Sweden: "Näverlur". We also have songs to make the cattle/gots come home by voice: "Kulning". Or any other dialectal word. Mostly for the northern parts of Sweden. Lovely to hear.

Hi Felix, Nice presentation! I enjoyed the details about the final edge angle and the little 6 mm "indicator" in the strap. Very smart! I have been testing diamond pastes on various surfaces. A progession is nice however, out of the ones you showed I would go with the DMT diamond paste on leather. The 6 Micron one is good but surprisingly the 1 Micron paste has better feedback and cuts quite well. Maybe play with the surface of the leather..rough it up or smoothen it out...see what works for you. They do cut but it is more "in the eye/hand of the beholder" as the feedback is very important. If you don't feel it in hand you might raise/lower the spine and it does not harm than good or nothing at all. If you ever consider balsa wood, i can tell you from my own experience, the CBN 3 Micron and 1 Micron worked best for me...although on balsa the feedback is not the greatest.

Hi! Another great video. My Dad used to strop his vic pocket knife on the palm of his hand after every use. I found it works quite well to maintain the blade after light use. I don't know how that might work on a heavier blade.
@XoNasX Жыл бұрын
Ah wow, I have never heard of that, but it's probably similar to strop it over this leather thingy.
@Trad. Жыл бұрын
@@XoNasX The biggest difference is that on a leather strop, you (most of the time) put compound, which makes it faster and more effective.
@alfonsedente9679 Жыл бұрын
Spoiler Alert: Even if he covered his buttcheeks in stropping compound, and sat on his knife, it still wouldnt work.
@arnoldcohen1250 Жыл бұрын
@@alfonsedente9679 stropping a straight razor without a compound is commonly done after/before a shave when only minor touch up/or maintenance is needed. This is commonly seen in any barber shop that still shaves with a cut throat razor. A small pocket knife used to open mail or cut a string starting with a keen edge (Dad and I both used an Arkansas stone) is maintained, with less frequent trips to the stone. There is a whole literature, easily found on line, of people doing this with double edge razor blades during the depression and now as well. So, I would suggest more gentlemanly, less disrespectful comments about a man long gone, on this channel.

Truly amazing videos as always of course but that intro should not be skipped to be honest! :D 8:35 And since I learned it last week as well and was very surprised (please dont feel attacked): the verb "to tear" is pronounced like "bear/wear" and not like the noun "tear", which makes absolutely no sense, but hey, it's english pronunciation, it must be weird apparently :D

Wet and dry sandpaper for me. Always. Least weight also. Even at home I use that. Up to 6000 grit I have it. Mostly up to 2000 grit and then the strop. I used diamond also, they wear out just as well. Waterstones... I like the paper the best. Jimmy Two Times : I'm gonna go get the papers, get the papers.

Thanks a lot for this super interesting comment!
@Ve-suvius Жыл бұрын
@@FelixImmler At home I use the sandpaper on the sanding block with the metal spring clips. It has the somewhat softer backing (little harder than most mousemats). So I can easily turn a scandi type of bevel (in my case, mora knives) into a slight scandivex. Giving it a stronger edge . And still a razor also. Most of time a touch up with 2000 grit paper suffices along with the strop. Or else 800 grit if it's really dull . Then 2000 and then strop.
