Isn't sprite scaling "simply" allowing sprites to change size? Meaning there are actually dozens of sprites for a single object depending on how far away it is from the camera?

@@DemoniteBLnope. Sprite scaling refers to when byte hardware do this realtime instead of having as you mention many sizes. Of course you can say it’s similar but the term means this. Or the original name I think was Superscalar in the SEGA hardware. If you use different sets of sprite in different sizes to simulate depth it’s usually called scaled sprites. Well nothing of this is set in stone it’s just the general terms originating originally over time

Nah, VHR started in 2019 as a simple "Power Drift" style game & formed into what it is now after multiple iterations. Any resemblance you think you're seeing is purely due to all these games, including VHR, using the same 'pre full 3D' retro style approach to rendering the graphics.
