This might be the best Andertons video I've ever seen, and I've seen a stinking lot of them. The commentary/info/personal opinions is something I realllllly want to hear more of. Usually its just a little bit here and there but on this video you really let loose with your personal thoughts about the amps and it made for a really awesome video. Keep this kind of content coming!

1. V40 2. Fender 3. Milkman. Personally I find the V40 more versatile and more to my taste. Thicker. Whereas the milkman was just too thin and brittle.

I actually found the fender the most brittle. And The Milkman the best, the victory has a sometimes annoying mid range. The Milkman just makes sense

For anyone wondering about the chords for the intro jam... from what I hear it's E - G#m - F#m - B9sus2 * *(There is a chromatic walk down between the G#m and F#m chord and also you can substitute the B9sus for a regular B7 but I think in the loop it's a B9sus2. and of course you can sub the minor chords for minor 7ths.) I'm pretty sure this is right, but correct me if I'm wrong!

I came into this video wanting the milkman to crap all over the other amps. For PURELY clean strat position 4 I think it did the best but honestly, that stinking V40D is voiced so well with so many modern features that make it take pedals so well! I am so conflicted! But Victory seems to be crushing it, well done Mr. Kidd!
@tommaycock54597 жыл бұрын
This is probably my favorite Anderton's video to date. Three amps and three players made great sense, and the comments felt honest, unvarnished, and insightful. And, most of all, it did a great job of letting us hear the amps side-by-side-by-side (literally). Victory was my favorite, but the Deluxe would be great for my needs as well. Milkman clearly did what it did well, but it's a brighter tone that I'd want, at least without a mid-rangey boost or drive.

The great thing about the Fender Deluxe Reverb is it's versatility. The "normal" and "vibrato" channel are radically different sounding, as the bright cap is removed from the "normal" channel and the reverb/trem circuit add a lot of punch/color to the vibrato channel. Input 2 of each is also 6db lower in volume, which is great for home use. Also, once you turn the vibrato channel above 4, the effects of the bright cap are gone [for the most part]. Love that amp.

As someone who has a bunch of amps and has built a bunch of his own amps, I am 99% sure this boiled down to the speakers involved as the amp circuits are similar and the deluxe reverb is considered THE desert island amp. I liked them all at different times, but the speaker is much more likely the cause of the different tones as I figure the amp circuits themselves aren't all that different. After all, they say you don't mess with perfection. And I know I am super pickey about speakers as a builder, much more than any other amp part. They play a HUGE part in tone. More so than any other single component. Especially in clone amps...
@het_gele_teken7 жыл бұрын
Lee makes a very good point starting 14:18 about your bedroom tone vs. a gigging tone. That objectionable tone may be just what's needed to be heard in a gigging situation.
@napalmhardcore7 жыл бұрын
All of them have sounds that I love and I can imagine use scenarios for each where one would be more suitable than the others. It's the same as when I listen to a Les Paul vs a Strat vs a Tele, or a Vox vs a Fender vs a Marshall. Having this mindset is frustrating as hell because I get option paralysis. I end up holding off buying stuff because I have a limited amount of money and don't want to commit to a purchase when I like lots of things equally for different reasons.

Mick is my man for blues, I hang on his licks here and totally on TPS too. Bea is crazy good at heavier stuff and yet I love it when he busts out a Strat and gets gentle too. Cap has gotten SO GOOD so I love listening to him too. Hats off to the Cap for surrounding himself with masterful players in every genre.

I think Leo used some really great players as testers for his amps. From the single coils to the amp, getting a great tone from the Deluxe Reverb is all about the finesse of the player, playing in the sweet spot from your picking hand. Pete does what I am talking about very well, hence your comment about Pete’s ability to get a nice bass portion of tone out of the Deluxe.

So I stay hat home with my cheap 0,1/1/5W TubeAmp with a little Reverb (mostly without any pedals on 1W) and if I will ever get a gig (may take some more time on practising :)) I will borrow a HotRod or something like that. But as always: great show!

Really appreciate that they clearly acknowledge the difference they're having hearing the amps from different locations from the amps, and that listening on youtube is more accurate than what they're experiencing, especially since a lot of what they're judgements on bass and treble from each seem to have nothing to do with what I'm hearing from them lol, so their opinions are kinda useless here haha but definitely learning a lot from the shoot out and damn the milkman is kinda killin it, followed by victory (maybe just needs some knob dialing still), and just not sure I like the modern deluxe's that much at this point

In order of preference: Victory V40 Deluxe, Fender Deluxe Reverb, Milkman Sideman. The V40 sounds so smooth and thick, it's unbelievable; the Deluxe Reverb sounds nice and balanced, if a little bit on the thin side, but my settings for a '65 DRRI would be Treble @ 4.5, Bass @ 6.5, so there we go... The Milkman was the one that surprised me: sounded thin and character-less through my hi-fi speakers, kind of like an anaemic Vox-ish kind of amp. I'm sure the chap who builds them does one heck of a job, but if a mass-produced Fender Deluxe Reverb sounds fuller than a hand-built boutique amp... then maybe it's back to the drawing board man!
