Victory Vegas vs. Harley-Davidson Dyna Wide Glide Motorcycle Comparison

Victory Motorcycles has started a pilot program where the manufacturer is providing Harley-Davidson motorcycles to be test ridden back to back with various Victory Motorcycles.
In this video, DSJR70 from TheVOG.net gives his opinions after riding both a 2010 Harley-Davidson Dyna Wide Glide and a 2011 Victory Vegas.

Sounds like this guy likes the Harley more, even though he says he prefers the victory . Their both nice bikes, and he already has a victory, so he might as well buy a Dyna wide glide too. This guy is just loyal to the victory brand . With Harley's I like Fat Boys, and victories I like that new Judge. For touring bikes I like Harley like road king classics, and ultra classic, I think they look better than any of the competition in that class .

HD sounds better, better transmission, more stable at speed, better start up, better fit and finish, he liked the black paint on the engine better, better key position, has fork locks, etc. The only thing he liked better on the Vegas was the position of the kickstand and the design of the swing arm. “I still prefer the Vegas.” You’d think an editor would have caught that and made him come back in for adr to explain himself.

It cracks me up when people always bring up the resale value of HDs. Some of us buy our bikes to ride the hell out of them, not to sell them.. Admittedly, I have owned 2 Vics and love them. I think that Victory overall make better cycles than just about anyone. That being said, this video is a bit biased, and is purely subjective on most points. Ride what ever you want, they make a lot of bikes, choose one and ride.

Kawasaki 1700 Vulcan Vequero is a total motorcycle.......Its water-cooled, shaft drive is excellent......Not as pretty as a Harley (IMHO) but going across the country I think its a better choice....Many have gotten 150,000 trouble free miles on them!

I'm not biased I like most bikes for one reason or another, but this is just not a well thought out video by the victory group. Ha, that's kinda what I thought. The review seemed to be leaning toward the Harley, then the overall goes to the Vegas. But, on a different note, 8 years ago when I reached a point in my life when it was 'time to buy a Harley', I came home two weeks later with a Vegas. Tried again 6 months ago for a bagger/tour bike and came home with a Vision. Not many people set out to buy a Victory and come home with a Harley, but a lot of folks the past 15 years have set out to buy a Harley or other big V-twin and come home with a Victory. Their slogan 'ride one you'll own one' rings very true for me.

I have owned both the Harley Dyna and the Victory Vegas. The major appeal for the Harley is the look, sound, and tradition. The major drawback on my Harley Dyna is the vibration of the engine. The major appeal for me on my Victory was the smooth engine and ride but the looks are lacking. I just find myself drawn to the classic Harley look. Both are nice bikes but I found myself using my Dyna more especially when riding with a group...The Harley is just more of a head turner and the sound is unmatched. The Harley with its thunderous sound just beckons you to ride it. It touches your soul in a way that the Victory just can't.

I love Harley, to be honest. Always have. I've test drove pretty much all the Dynas, Softails and even a couple of Touring bikes in the last 6 weeks. I'm going to be deciding and purchasing a new bike in January. There is no denying it... Harley has soul. Their technology has improved greatly, and of course their styling is (IMO) the best. I've just starting to look at the Victory's lately... but haven't test drove one though. This all is going to make my final decision all the harder. There's one thing that I do know. My next bike is going to be American. Ride safe bro.

As a Victory owner I'm glad they're not trying to compare themselves to Harley anymore. Many of us wanted a big American cruiser that WASN'T a Harley. Nothing wrong with Harley's bikes, in fact many of them are awesome, but it seems like they have lost their focus. To me the Victory is more of a rider's bike where a Harley is a name first, much like a BMW or Mercedes. So you have your die hard HD guys and also a lot of poseur yuppie types just looking to show off how bad ass they are on the weekend. We Victory riders are the gearhead nerds trying to show how fast we can go (or how many miles we can go). In stock form the Victory does sound very much like a lawn mower as the HD sounds pretty awesome. I can see how some people could easily be persuaded. With pipes the Victory sounds like the hounds of hell as it should. Now that Polaris owns the Indian name and pretty much manufactures the same bikes with that name, I'm wondering if my Vic is going to be thrown to the scrap pile (as far as a name goes). I wonder if there will be a recall program to paint the Indian name on my Highball. Let's hope not.

The reason so many are stolen is because the parts industry for harley is huge! They can't keep them going without continual parts supplies. I know I work on harleys here at my shop. I wouldn't give you .50c for a harley! Vicories are a huge step above harleys and the imports are another step above that! The only thing harly has going is a namesake, because they sold the image and lots of Tshirts. They sure the hell didn't sell dependable, good handling fast long lasting machines. It's a charade

And I love when wannabe tough guys with clear inadequacy issues call me names online they'd never say to my face. Plastic may not dent or rust, but it does scratch, and it definitely breaks. How much weight do plastic housings save? 20 lbs? My jacket and boots weigh 15 lbs. Unless you're racing, I don't buy the weight argument. It's an excuse for using cheap parts. Clearly you've not compared new vs. used prices on Harleys and Victories if you think "you pay for that up front" makes any sense.

The Dyna will "rattle your fillings out"? LOL. It's not a frame mounted engine dude. I like Victories just fine, and there are things I like better about them than Harleys, but I just can't get past all the plastic parts on them that you'd expect to be metal-- headlight and turn-signal housings, that weird triangle thing between the cylinders, etc. I'd consider a Victory if they were measurably cheaper than a Harley, and held their value nearly as well, but they're not, and they don't.

The Harley has better brakes, better handling, sounds like a bike should, has better cable management and the Victory has a nicer looking swingarm, higher speedo placement, and an easier to reach kick stand? I'm not getting why the Victory is supposedly a better bike. The Harley handles and performs better, but since you have to move your head to see the speedo and try a but harder to put the kickstand down its better? Stupid...

Harley owner do all service by their hand, nothing easier then that, if not its just a stupid poser not biker. Tell the mileage to all my friends riding Harleys mine has 88k at the moment and one Harley in club has 145k of hard abusing. Victory had quiet amount of troubles, same as Harley did. What engine power you mean? 103 engine has only few HP less then Vics 106 and 110 has more. Revolution has tons more power so WTF, stop that nonsense.

The Victory is absolutly ugly. The wheels look cheap. The handlebars are hidious and they use those same ugly ass bars on most of their bikes. The engine looks like an air compressor and sounds like a sewing machine. The overall styling looks very much like the Japanese cruisers. However, I do appreciate the fact that in no way is Victory trying to imitate Harley, they are doing their own thing.

Unless anyone caught on,...this is a Harley sponsered video, pretending to be a Victory promo.. Not very well done. Of course he liked the HD better, they were paying him. My Victory Vegas would outshine any H.D. Ive come across, in looks, performance and braking, AND public appeal. I didnt blend, and even the HD crown would come and have a peek. Sometimes waited for me to leave. I could tell, because they were salavating all over it. Well I hope they were salavating and not???...........

I agree, who would buy a freaking ugly ass bike. Thats part of the love of motorcycling, performance is important, handling and braking equally important. The Victory is such a nice looking bike with all the beautiful frill, seriously , who would ever even nearly consider a H.D. I have had both bikes, so I speak from experience. I now have a Triumph T-bird. Far superior to either mentioned. BTW, I wouldnt buy a bike to try be cool, and follow the crowd. But, each their own, or the millions!

Its so funny how some of the HD guys complain Vics are so ugly, and say i would never own one and the other 1/2 complains Vic stole their styling and they are copying HD! You cant have it both ways (dumb asses) Its NEITHER.. Cant talk about heritage either... Lets see: 4 valves, OHC, oil cooling, stator placement, primary drive, cam chain tensioning, all different and BETTER. Oh wait you decided that these DIFFERNCES don't exist because you don't like the guy from Arizona saying them out loud for the world to hear...these are still very big differences so get over it. Would these mechanical differences change depending on how one learns of them? No...I'm pretty sure it would still be OHC even if I learned it by pulling the head cover off myself.

Listen the only similarity is the v configuration; everything else is DIFFERENT. If you're so hell bent on splitting hairs...Indian was put'n out v-twins 3 years before Harley...so truth be told Harley has been copying Indian so if Victory is copying anyone it is Indian (a company that VICTORY HAPPENS TO OWN now) just like Harley has been doing for a hundred years now...do you feel educated yet?

I don't see that actually. When I worked at an HD dealership in Phoenix we had a couple of Vics on trade that were out in fron of the shop with the rest of the used bikes. I don't see HD commercials comparing the two, because they don't have to. My problem is with people like you watch these vids and think that because, for ex, Victory has more valves that HD is a shit product and will go around telling anyone who will listen about your hate for something you've never owned.

I'm not saying that Victory makes a bad bike, I liked the ones that i've ridden. I've just always been an HD fan and always will be. There are just things that I get out of HD that nobody else has for me. It's all preference. Completely agree about the douchebags. I hate them just as much as you, trust me. I think that they give HD a bad name. They are some of the most clueless riders i've ever met. But for me, it doesn't effect how I see HD.

Your talking to a guy who rode a HD for years. I test drove many different bikes (HDs, Jap, Triumph ) and did my research....and ended up with a Victory, Just look at all the Motorcycle mags that do their own ride comparisons...My Vic beat out all other baggers including HD. It wasnt about hating on anything. It rode and handled better than the rest. I think the negativity about HD is really geared more toward the wannabe douche bags who rag on everything else on 2 wheels THATS what people hate.

Do you see Harley with any Vics out front for the sole purpose of letting their customers ride one back to back with their products? Why is that? You can put out any stupid marketing video you want but when the customers get there and ride both machines the videos become meaningless and the machines are speaking for themselves. Is Craftsman copying Harley too? Some of their riding mowers have air cooled v-twins too ya know and holy crap the v-twin briggs motors that they chose to use even have push rods; just like Harleys. Also, I just watched this again, the guy says that the only areas where the Victory beat the HD was swingarm looks, speedo placement, seat comfort and less vibration. The rest of the areas the Wide Glide takes, tranny, sound, cable routing, ect. and when he says that he would buy the Victory, the interviewer says sarcastically, "surprise!" Really? I mean, is this just a bad example of marketing? I'd really like to talk to R. Lee Ermy about this. And go for a ride with him.
