Basing problems like this is why I mount my troops on 1 inch washers. I make movement trays for them that work just fine.

Very nice looking units! Love the kitbash you've done with the Triari. I've yet to do anything other than the Agema Carthaginians. I found they scale up well, but the Victrix ones just have so much more detail. Looking forward to your progress with the Velites you've got left and the new Hoplites.

Great update man, inspirational unit. Gonna be honest, I am stealing that conversion tip for the spear arms, and the shields look great. Soldiers and ghosts is an awesome book, cool to see you take inspiration from that. Looking forward to seeing the game you put on.

Thank you, and thanks for the recommendation again. I am going to ease myself into wargaming, looking forward to it. I've got a few friends and gaming group that would probably try out some games with me. Battle reports are not in the immediate future, there's no way I can jump into 7th son quality battle reports but I'll think about it

@@busydad_painting Yeah 7th son level need serious planning, but take some pics and clips and do an AAR.

Cool. Nice diversity of Romans as I gather was historically accurate at the time. Who do you like more of the Agema or the Victrix plastics ? I lean towards Agema. Hey and why no crouching Agema Triarii ?
@busydad_painting3 күн бұрын
Thank you. I prefer the Victrix Ancient models generally, because I like their proportions and detail. For the republican romans in particular though, the Agema figures support some nice active poses with pilum or sword. I am considering doing a full Agema only unit soon. I think I am going to save those crouching models for a special command base, I like them but I want all my blocks of men to appear to be on the verge of making contact with the enemy

I think the Republican Romans are way more interesting than the later Imperial version because of their varied troop types. Great kitbashing on the Triarii and Gallic skirmishers, i will have to use some of these ideas. My only query is about the size of the Triarii unit. They are often said to be half the strength of the other units in a maniple (60 men vs 120 men for the Principes, Hastati and Velites (I believe these are pronounced WELITES as v is silent in latin). Will you be making the other maniples bigger or having two similar sized units to represent two centuries of 60 men? Just wondering how you will be doing this.

Yup. Weh-le-tays.

Thank you! Weh-le-tayes eh? Good to know. I am not sure yet about the organizational structure of the Romans that I am going to use. I didnt have a particular unit / size of formation in mind; the models are based upon what I can get into that size of base in 28mm scale. I think I'll actually do some Italian allied groups next so I'll have some time to think about this

@@busydad_painting An excellent video on the Republican Romans can be found on Lindybeige's channel. That was where I heard the correct pronunciation.

again nice, but you could save some work if you make the Triari 1/2 the depth of the Hasti and Pricapis . Possible the Triari maniple is 1centuary of triari on the same frontage as 2of the H and P ahd a second centuary of Velites
@busydad_painting2 күн бұрын
Ah, yeah in the back of my mind thinking about how I would represent the typical ratio of legionary infantry; makes sense I could make the hastati and principes deeper to accomplish this. I might just double up on those types of units. We'll see!

I like the shield transfer diversity, makes me wish i didnt use the same transfer for entire roman units
@busydad_paintingКүн бұрын
Thanks, based upon the Little Big Man transfers, I think it's best if you can buy and build models in bulk, so you can mix designs. Of course, I am just getting started here but so far so good
