Hi Toby. It was me who asked you to do this a while back now, and I never thanked you. That’s mainly because I had lots of problems getting this to work reliably. I did get it working on one installation with multiple sensors, but on another I couldn’t. I’ve just gone back to it today and followed through and realised the reason it wasn’t working on the second installation is the GPIO pin was set to 26 by default and I hadn’t changed it to pin 4. I guess I had done that on the other installation but forgotten that step. So thank you so much for putting this video together.

Give WinSCP a try for this sort of thing. Its great for editing files via SSH.

Thanks for watching! I'm using it as well but some things are just easy copy & paste and quicker with the terminal ;-) but that's a good point. Maybe not everyone is aware of WinSCP and is just used to the Windows world... Thanks for this idea, might be a follow up video :)

Thanks for a good description of the temp sensor. I have done the installation as you describe, and changed the config.txt to Gpio 4 instead of 26. I have a Rip 4b, but I still can't connect to the 1 wire sensor, is there anything else that could be causing it? Regards Roger

I found theproblem, my temperature sensor does not have the pullup resistor, and then the rpi does not register that it is there, after I installed it, it works.

Thanks for the video. I was scratching my head because it wasn't working for me with a single DS18B20+ sensor. Mine is a straight sensor, no wires and it's not submersible. I tried different GPIO pins (changing /u-boot/config.txt each time), but in the end I just had to connect a 4.7K ohm resistor between 3.3v and the data pin. You do this in your "multiple sensors" video, but not this one. I wonder if the pre-made sensors have a resistor built in? Or maybe the little board that you're using has one?

So i installed the temperature package and the remote console device list is changing back and forth asking to remove disconnected devices. Could this be because i dont yet have a temperature probe connected. I removed the package but it keeps flashing back and forth. The joys of messing about lol

When configured and visible on the console it should pop up on the vrm console. You can check in devices in case you need to activate in it

The temp sensor is read 52- 53 C that's 126-133 F! That can not be correct unless you have very hot fingers. I'm also getting very high readings and can not find a way to calibrate the sensor. Any help would be great!

Thanks, this could be useful an cheap addon, and you can use as many pins you are available in Rpi with code modification!

Yes and you can also use I/O expanders if you run out of pins (often via i2c, e.g. PCF8574 or MCP series chips).
