What a brilliant, courageous, and inspiring human being. Explains eloquently the philosophical causes of the present devastating and overwhelming destruction of nature, animals, and the planet itself. This cause is the secular construction of nature and animals (and I would add, even human beings, particularly those of certain races and countries) as mere matter, spiritually meaningless and relevant only in materialistic and anthropocentric ways. They exist just to be used and subjugated by man, that is their sole purpose. This view of life is indeed the source of worst forms of destruction and the precipitator of horrific crimes against nature, animals, humans, the entire planet. Secular thought's primary concern: to subjugate nature, control it, dominate it and destroy it for profit, to sever it ontologically, psychologically and spiritually from our systems of value. I cannot recommend viewing this multiple times and while taking detailed notes to try as best as possible to understand and digest this invaluable material.

The people commenting utter nonsense below unfortunately entirely lack the intellectual capacity to understand even 1/10th of what Wael Hallaq is saying.

That man died with complete dignity. No screaming, shouting begging like the rest of us would probably do (including myself)...with honour.

In Islam there is only sacred, and all are created by God for the purposes ordained by God. Secular is not an identity but ignorance

Hallaq lost me at 1:25 where he compares people to bricks. All these grandiose conceptions of how society "should work" have caused unmeasurable pain fo millions of individuals because their individual rights were not as important as building the great society.

I can't stand this guy, got to meet him in person at a lecture some years ago he had to run off before I got to grill him a little. Slavoj Zizek is a much better "occidentalist" and he's actually on to something I think. In my opinion, to be Frank, Hallaq is ridiculous. I'd read a non-academic Orthodox theologian (Romanides) over him.

@@inhumanhyena Well instead of attacking him and drooling over Zizek, why don't you actually mention why he's "ridiculous"

@@inhumanhyena you’re a butthurt to see an Arab Christian defend Islam it’s as simple as that. Not only butthurt for that reason , you’re butthurt that a CHRISTIAN is a respected scholar on Islamic history and defends it which proves how tolerant we are as Muslims of non Muslims. Also butthurt because he disproves the false narrative you were taught . You’re a goon Cory . Lose the beer belly and stop watching Fox News. I bet you’re obese.

we undertake political projects precisely for the sake of individual rights. there is no other way to go about it.
