Brother Paul. This is one of the few comments I put on KZbin throughout years of passive watching. That’s because I’m now witnessing an intellectual discussion between two muslims about an Islamic idea with a human scale, argued with eloquence, pride and empathy. Having been frustrated by the waste land of ideas in our traditional Arab countries, I can now see how God almighty has His ways in seeing his grand scheme revealed to mankind where hope was thought to be lost. Jazak Allah Khair. You and your select guests are a breeze to my heart.

Salams Brothers, I am currently in undergrad in the US. I feel very inadequate due to my inability to address the falsehoods being spread by my professors/institution. Often times, they will make remarks about religion while looking pointedly at me (I wear hijab). Although I try to combat their ignorance with some of what I've heard on this channel and others (alongside what I've read from important texts), I feel lost and alone. Not many of the other Muslims I've met on campus are concerned with defending the faith, and some are blatantly abandoning it. I'm just very saddened and disheartened. Nevertheless, I am sending thanks for your work, as it certainly makes me feel less defeated and alone. May Allah bless you for your work.
@Liimr1142 жыл бұрын
Salam Sister, I command you for being indignant about your professors/institutions's ill-remarks about Islam and your struggle to fight it. Fisrt of all, your struggle will not go in vain and you get more Ajir for your solotary struggle. However, know that you or other muslims in your campus are not held accountable for whatever the result of your professor/institutions practice as long as you've tried to the best of your ability. so at this point, give you're self some slack and don't take it too hard on yourself fighting to the point of losing your Imaan. Trust in Allah. disbelivers scheme but Allah is better schemer.

Thank for another great episode with Imam tom! I know I said this before but will say it again!!: If only you had been doing this when I was in grad school! It would have been so helpufl! When I was in grad school, I read Foucault, and Wael Hallaq Restating Orientalism and the Impossible State! I completely agree with you that Hallaq's prose is clunky and hard to read. And that this is all Foucault's fault. And yet the convergence between Islamist critiques of modernity and postmodern critiques of modernity (most of hese from the political left) are very much there. I should say though that I was impressed but not too suprised when I learned that Hallaq is a Christian. For one thing, Arabic speaking Chiristians have a different relationship with Islamicate culture then European Western Christian have. ARabic is there language too. They had complete freedom to pracite their religion under the Sharia including conducting marriage, settling business/ criminal dsputes between correlgionist, etc. In oder to do their jobs, Christian clerics typically had to learn about the Sharia (including morize the Qur'an) along with their own text so they could, and often did, advocate for their community's rights in an Islamic langauge under an Islamic framework. And again, ARabic is the native tongjue of many Christians (Including Hallaq himself), and so for them the Qur'an as an influential ARabic language work of literature/ prose/poetry has to be approached with reverence and respect even if they don't share our theological convictions. This can lso be seen the attitudes Arabic speaking Christian clerics themselves. The former Catholic Bishop of Jerusalem, (a representative of the Holy Sea no less!), Bishop Hilarion Capucci knew Surah Maryam and loved to recite it. He was also, one of the very few Catholic priest, to support Palestine! I want to end my comments by quoting written by journalist Nicolas Pelham bout the disintegration of the Middle East called Holy Lands where he tries to understand how cuch a tolerant, pluralistic region devolved into violent intolerance that we are familiar with. Among the many Christians quoted in that book was a Palestinian Armenian scholar named George Hintlian, am who lost 70 relatives in the Armenian genocide. About secular nationalism, decline of the Ottoman Empire, and increasing intolerance in the region, he says: "Our mistake was to ask for equality. We had everything. The bloody missionaries opened our eyes to convince us we had nothing.". I think it is this perpsective that motivates Hallaq to say that he would rather live under a Sharia system. And dont forget, Hallaq is Palestinian! We (Muslims( did not cause the Nakba! Euorpean Zionists did!

It examines the history, development, and current application of Sharī'a law, as well as its potential for transformation in the modern world. The book provides an in-depth analysis of the various sources of Sharī'a law, including the Qur'an, Sunnah, and Ijma, and discusses the role of Islamic jurisprudence in the interpretation and application of Sharī'a. It also examines the impact of modernity on Sharī'a law, and the potential for reform and transformation. 🔴 *The Apostle Paul's Terrible Error* 🔴 📍In the Old Testament: =>the Holy Place contains: Table of Showbread (Showbread on it) + Candlestick + Altar of Incense. =>the Holy of Holies contains: Ark of the Covenant " Hebrews 9:2-4 " *“²For there was a tabernacle made; the first, wherein was the candlestick, and the table, and the shewbread; which is called the sanctuary. ³ And after the second veil, the tabernacle which is called the Holiest of all; ⁴ Which had the golden censer, and the ark of the covenant overlaid round about with gold, wherein was the golden pot that had manna, and Aaron’s rod that budded, and the tables of the covenant”.* There are three errors : - Firstly, Paul mentioned the Table *AND* the Showbread, knowing that the latter is already *ON* the Table. (Exodus 25:30 “And thou shalt set *upon* the table shewbread before me alway.”) - The second error is that Paul mentioned the golden censer in the Holy of Holies. Moreover, If we suppose that the golden censer is an element in the Holy of Holies, why was it not mentioned in the Torah or in the Jewish heritage? It is not logical that it's not mentioned in the Torah and then Paul mentioned it after that. The fourth verse mentioned the golden censer then the Ark of the Covenant which contained the Golden Pot, Aaron’s Rod, and the Tablets of the Stone; if the golden censer was of Aaron’s legacy, then Paul should have mentioned it among the contents of the Ark of the Covenant, not in the Holy of Holies. - The third error is that Paul did not mention the Altar of Incense at all. - *Father Matta El Meskeen. The Epistle to the Hebrews: Explanation and Study, pp. 519-520:* the Altar of Incense: the Apostle Paul did not mention it here, and the reasons and interpretations differed.... and in Hebrews 9:4, he mentioned a golden censer, baffling the commentators, because it is known that the Altar of Incense is in the Sanctuary. - *John Gill's Exposition:* but here a difficulty arises, how this can be said to have been in the holy of holies, and within the vail, when, according to Moses, it was without the vail, and was only carried within on the day of atonement; and so Philo the Jew (a) places it in the other part of the tabernacle; and it seems as if it was to avoid this difficulty, that the Ethiopic version has removed it from this verse to verse the second, and put it among the things that were in the holy place. - *Franz Delitzsch. Commentary On The Epistle To Hebrews, pp. 54-55:* Such being the Hellenistic usage, and in particular that that of Josephus and Philo, whose phraseology has so many points of resemblance to that of other author, it seems impossible to escape the conclusion that θυμιατηριον means here the incense-altar, and nothing else. It would be, moreover, a quite inexplicable omission in this connection, had he said nothing about it. But if θυμιατηριον here I the altar of incense, the sacred writer appears to be involved in the grosse error of supposing that this golden altar, of which Philo says correctly that it stood between the golden candlestick and the holy table… and Bleek draws thence the conclusion that he could not have been a Jew of Palestine: but even supposing him to have been an Alexandrine Jew, he must have been a monster of ignorance and forgetfulness to be capable of such a mistake. - *Ellicot’s Commentary for English Readers:* The incense-altar and the ark are coupled together, and the word which describes their relation to the Holiest Place is that which, a little later in this verse, distinctly signifies "containing." So weighty is this consideration that many have been unable to avoid the conclusion that the writer has erred in this matter of detail; and various suppositions have been resorted to in explanation of his mistake. - *Expositor's Greek Testament:* ... and the versions of Symmachus and Theodotion in Exodus 31 use θυμιατήριον for “altar of incense”. Besides, the form of the word indicates that it could be used of anything on which incense is offered. It was, therefore, understood of the “altar” by Clement Alex. and other fathers; by Calvin, who says, “quo nomine altare suffitus vel thymiamatis potius intelligo quam thuribulum;” and by most modern scholars. As has frequently been urged it is incredible that in describing the furniture of the tabernacle there should be no mention of the altar of incense. Difficulty has been felt regarding the position here assigned to it, for in fact it stood outside the veil; and the author has been charged with error. ✴️One of the commentators say that Paul mentioned the golden censer in the Holy of Holies for fear of theft and to be in a safe place, and this is very funny because the commentator forgot that the Candlestick and the Table are plated with gold. Therefore, the commentary is ridiculous, because even if the golden censer was moved to the Holy of Holies for fear of theft, the Candlestick and the Table are plated with gold too (Exodus 25). 🔴 The question remains, why did Paul not mention the Altar of Incense? There are two solutions, the sweetest of which is bitter; either Paul did not write by inspiration or he is an ignorant liar.

Excerpt for the curious: In Transformations, Wael Hallaq describes living in the classical period of Islamic law as being characterized by a strong emphasis on legal reasoning and the application of legal principles to real-world situations. He argues that this approach was replaced by a more literal interpretation of Islamic law in the modern era, leading to a decline in the quality of legal reasoning and a decrease in the ability of Islamic law to address contemporary issues.

What Wael Hallaq criticized of State - is similar manner The Poet of the East - Prof. Muhammed Iqbaal critized the system of Nation-State, but in very brief manner, not as deeper as Hallaq. His poem is below (Translated from Urdu) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Wataniyyat / Nationhood / Patriotism - As a political concept ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In this age the wine, the cup, even Jam is different The cup‐bearer started different ways of grace and tyranny The Muslim also constructed a different harem of his own The Azar of civilization made different idols of his own Country, is the biggest among these new gods! What is its shirt is the shroud of Deen (Religion) This idol which is the product of the new civilization Is the plunderer of the structure of the Holy Prophet’s Deen You should show the old panorama to the world O Mustafaa’s follower! You should destroy this idol Your arm is enforced with the strength of Tawheed You are the followers of Mustafa, your country is Islam Renouncing the country is the way of the God’s Beloved (PBUH) You should also testify to the Prophethood’s Truth by similar action In political parlance country is something different In Prophet’s command country is something different The limitation to country results in destruction Live like the fish in the ocean free from country The antagonism among world’s nations is created by this alone Subjugation as the goal of commerce is created by this alone Politics have become bereft of sincerity is by this alone The destruction of the home of the weak is by this alone God’s creation is unjustly divided among nations by it The Islamic concept of nationality (of Islam) is uprooted by it - iqbaal iqbalurdu.blogspot.com/2011/04/bang-e-dra-102-wataniyat.html?m=1

May Allah Protect Our Scholars. We should be more happy and thankful for the Muslim World and how well Muslims have put up with the forces of colonialism. At the end of the day, the truth at it's worst, will always be better than falsehood at its best.

Peace be upon you, honored brothers. To reinforce and elaborate on the idea of the thinker Wael Hallak, may Allah perpetuate his knowledge on us, to compensate and correct our latent modernist perceptions, which we now adopt after our diving and fascination with Western civilization, with Islamic perceptions and convictions that we were ignorant of because we abandoned the Book of Allah, we took this Qur'an for granted. Dr. Nayef bin Nahar analyzes and summarizes all our beliefs and practices. He says that all the perceptions we adopt are centered on four central perceptions in both cases between Islam and modernity. For Islam, creation as an existence that leads to rationality in thinking, i.e. mind and Quranic text, then social integration as a perception in practice among the members of society, and to the establishment of justice and justice as a goal. Modernity, with its four central concepts of autonomy from God, leads to pure rationality in thinking, which leads to individualism in practice, which leads to materialistic self-interest as a goal, while modernity comes with its four central concepts of autonomy in existence, which leads to pure rationality in thinking, which leads to individualism in practice, which leads to materialistic self-interest as a goal. The spirit of intense competition When you do not share the spirit of integration and cooperation with other members of society, the spirit of intense competition becomes what determines your relationship with others. Thus, you do not care about how to outperform the rest of society and focus here on the material and social level. For our God ,in the perception of individuals, sees believers as brothers, and thus the spirit of cooperation and the standard of success is subjective and not related or contradictory to the rest of society. Rather, the individual is required to help others, even if they work in the same field as him. Therefore, we reject monopoly and usury and demonstrate patience, tolerance, altruism and complementarity with the rest of society. Economics in its latest definition is the maximization of profits, the maximum exploitation of human resources, while for the believers, economics is the optimal utilization of human resources. And a need for a balance between human desires and resources. If modernity sees well-being as the original state, then desires become unlimited. Do not overstep the scales. Eat, drink ,live and be merry. Balance is the most important concept in economics. Truth is limited to material reality, so morals, ethics, emotions, and social psychology have no value in the standard of progress because they are not a material value. This question determines how we see our lives and how we react to events and changes. Culturalization and specificity means communicating with other cultures and specificity means paying attention to reality. Things do not make us happy, but our perceptions of them do. Perceptions are the gateway to the mandate, God does not charge a person more than he can afford. .... The soul improves when perceptions improve. Spend from what He has made you stewards of. Moral perception is the best alternative to legal perception. Morality, chastity and brotherhood can make the law only an exceptional necessity for Reforming perceptions leads to reform in beliefs and practices. For example, O people, we created you from a male and a female. ...... The perception is the creation from a male and a female, so there is no difference where you were born or to whom you belong because it is not an achievement ... all the same, and the second perception made you peoples and tribes and why to know each other, there is no other reason except for acquaintance between mankind. The rulings of acquaintance. Stand up for what is right for the Muslim brothers to support each other. Commanding good and forbidding evil. The political sphere is dominated by outcome-oriented conceptualization. The social sphere is dominated by individualism, the economic sphere is dominated by capitalism, the religious sphere is dominated by Christianity, and the cognitive sphere is dominated by materialism. What is not material is not seen as a source of knowledge.
