Beijing, Mumbai, Tampines: A group of recruits undergoes a gruelling week of training. Their sergeants' threats of confining them in camp over the weekend due to their poor performance lead some to blame the two new citizen recruits for "sabotaging" everyone else. Directed by Kelvin Tong
Directed by Kelvin Tong, ‘Beijing, Mumbai, Tampines’ is inspired by the winning logline from Alvona Loh, one of the winners in the Lapis Sagu Film Contest. The short film is part of ‘Together Apart’, an anthology of three short films from Project Lapis Sagu, a crowdsourced film initiative on cultural diversity and social integration presented by the Ministry of Communications and Information (MCI).

This clip brought tears to me; I guess in training schools, when things go wrong, we tend to victimize someone. In this clip, the victims are the new citizens, and in my time, it could be any others: Chinese-Ed who couldn't communicate, the physically weak or the naturally slow. The power, which I believe, lies in the realization that we are as good as the weakest link, and selfless teamwork is the only way to move forward!

Also a small strip of van houten chocolate. A lemonade powder. RPs and MPs knew when was our field training and would confiscate our food on book out days. Yes the SOC was so tough that I am not sure if those were sweats or tears on my face haha

I think they are more fortunate.mono intake direct to unit are more siong.eg,SIR units,i cant even do 1 pull up,but after 2months,i did 15 pull up within a min.i once a sabo king,but my cmmander always cheer me up.IPPT test,25 points,SOC,completed b4 9mins and that is unit standard to pass SOC.guys,remember ,mind over body thst the key.

times have changed... they also have a laptop per section for self learning. when i ORD (1yrs ago), the concept they were pitching was a centralized instructor pool specializing in each "subject". in my mind "oh the shooting instructor will be shooting very regularly"... then second thought was "pity the guys that teach fieldwork...every day camouflage"

lyhthegreat To be technical. The U.S. Marines is not an army..We are an amphibious assault force, land, air, and sea. We train more rigorously than the army. Suicides and suicidal ideation are common in the Marine Corps, it's the norm. Yet, we need to have a exceptional killing force since we have only around 200,000 active marines. The U.S. government doesn't need Marines, but they want us. Army standards: Rifle Qual(300m) 10 weeks basic training, 2-3 weeks AIT training. Marine Corps: Rifle Qual:(500m) 13 weeks bootcamp, 1st week is receiving. Usually 2-9 recruits drop just within receiving. The crucible(50 mile hike with about 60 pounds of gear, only 2 MRE's, maximum of 4 hours of sleep. You have 48 hours to complete it. I can keep going, but you get the point. I know militias can't be as good as an army, but their the very last defense if the army fails, I hope they'd be good enough to defend.

Do not underestimate the cruelty of Singaporean military. In this military, corporal punishment (caning at buttock by rottan) is allowed for the means of discipline to its recruits. If you did something stupid, you could face caning session more than smoke session.
