Don't get me wrong, the Federation is an outright classist, ageist, ableist and imperialist political entity that care only about profit over people. But, it's the Federation's disregard for the rights of their own citizens that lead to the rise of the fascistic, yet Stalinist structured Zabis. Likewise, the Federation at this point in the series is on the verge of becoming like the Zabis.

@@CorrinZGW Here's the thing though, Stalin still used the rhetoric that the Soviet people are to pave way for a New Soviet Person, one who would emerge from Soviet society regardless of race, ethnicity, cultural or linguistic diversity in a post-capitalist society. Likewise, Girhen Zabi is using the same rhetoric to claim that the Zeon are a people who are to pave way for a new humanity, the Newtypes, in a post-federation world. One of the methods done to this achieve this end was genocide. In the case of Stalin it was killing Ukrainians, and with Girhen it was killing half the human race. While Girhen tends to have some of Hitler's traits, like his fetishizing of superweapons, but, in what I've seen of how's he's portrayed in his private life, he tends to act like Stalin; (e.g. he womanizes despite being married, has a calm persona). Then again, even Stalin made some weapons that were impratitical like the KV-2. Since you bring up Degwin, he would be the Lenin to Zeon Deikun's Karl Marx. This is especially since Deikun was opposed to the earth being in the hands of the rich and that man should live in space to begin a newtype of civilization, while Degwin took the idea and said that the Zeon are the chosen people to usher a new civilization in space, and Girhen like Stalin, took it to the next level. Also the Zabis, like Stalin, were nepotistic in how family members occupied positions in the Zeon military as Stalin did with his family in the Soviet military. The Zabis even used Deikun's image to keep the masses in-line in the same way that Stalin did with Marx to keep the masses in line. Even Girhen's puppet rulers Degwin and Darcia Bakhov could be comparable to Stalin's puppets Mikhail Kalinin and Alexei Rykov respectively. There was a reason I said that the Zabis are structured after Stalinism politically, but have fascistic methods. It had to do with the nuances in Gundam, especially as it is a very anti-authoritarian piece.

The perspective Gundam gives you is there are no evil soldiers on the battlefield just soldiers fighting for what they think or have been told is right.
