I have a 250-300 and 300 Savage in EG model for both. The 99's were way ahead of their time and overlooked today which is a shame. I still occasionally take them out deer hunting. Thanks for your video on a great little cartridge.

Beautiful gun. Looks just like mine. Greatest coyote calling gun ever. Most people don't realize 99's are controlled-round-feed actions. Perhaps a demonstration in a future vid is in order. Thanks!

I currently have three Savage model 99 rifles. 1952 99EG in 250-3000, 1955 99F in 300 Savage and 1972 99F in 308 Winchester. Until around 1960 or 61 the barrel twist rate for the 250-3000 was 1/14. Those barrels would not stabilize bullets weighing over 100 grains except for a few round nose bullets. In the later edition the twist was changed to 1/10. Those will stabilize the 120 grain spritzer bullets. If you research you will find some published reloading data for the 250-3000 that shows the 100 grain bullets can be pushed to 3000 fps with some powders in the Model 99. Approach those loads with extreme caution. Happy hunting boys and girls!😊

Excellent video. One observation. There is a parent cartridge, and it is the 30-06. According to most historical references Newton used a shortened 30-06 for his creation. The cartridges share the same rim diameter of .473, and the base of the 250 is .469, basically a tapered 30-06 which is .471.

Love my savage 99c was home after AIT from army in the 80s just went for ride with the old man to gun shop sew it in the used case and bought it's 308 just love it can do anything with it so easy to shoot

As they call them odd ball calibers now days but i just think they are over looked. I have ammo for all the ones I do own. Only missing 5 of the calibers in the savage 99

Very nicely done video. Just a beautiful rifle. Are commercial rounds safe to use in these older rifles? Recently aquired one from a good friends widow. Have not had a chance to fire it . Thanks for sharing your knowledge , its just what I was looking for. 😊

Thanks for your comments and compliment. These rifles are noted to have strong actions. As far as safety, I have fired commercial rounds from these with no issues. One of the nice things about these rifles is their ability to shoot ammo with pointed bullets, whereas tube fed lever guns can't.

I have 5- a .22 hi power, a 250-3000 and 3 .300 Savage. They are addictive. Looking for a .303 Saveage. I've never collected anything until I saw one of these. Better looking than Rita Hayworth.

Thanks for your comment! It's not really a 300 Savage necked down. Can 250 Savage be formed from 300 Savage? - Yes, but.... If you say it's just a 300 necked down to 250, then the entire history of the cartridge is lost, and puts the cart before the horse. The 250 Savage was developed 5 years before the 300 Savage. It was developed from the 30-06, shortened, necked down etc. The 300 Savage was developed from the 250, not the other way around. It has the neck enlarged to 308, different shoulder, base and case length dimensions.

@@thecalibercorner9614 There is going to be a video showing the AR 10 shooting 250 Savage to at least you can get to see it in the AR 10. Pac Nor Barrels just sent the invoice for the 3 barrels one will be the AR 15 done in the Nazi German 7.92x33 Kurz the next will be the AR 10 in 250 Savage and last in 6mm-284 win which I hunt with my own AR 10 in 6mm-284 win. These will be up for sale when finished and tested then comes an AR 10 2 uppers for sale in 300 WSM & 7mm WSM.
