That's the most well built Standardbred I've ever seen. You can tell you've really conditioned him.

Thank you! Extremely helpful. My own Standie came from the SPPHA in NSW and ever since I started retraining her I've not found many videos as helpful and specific to my situation as yours. Ta.

That's a great canter for a Standardbred

Great advice. Wished I'd seen this 4 years ago. I had to find it out the hard way. LOL

Excellent, I have a boy bred to pace ,but wouldnt, and does not appear to in the paddock. Only four, so only ground work so far.

Has anyone ever had a standardbred that does not gait? I have a horse who was said to be a saddlebred, but she looks very standardbredy but not pure. She doesnt gait, but sometimes if you ask the right way shell do like a little shuffle like rack just with her hind legs. Its not like a twhs either. Its more like what the five gaited saddlebreds do. Yet ive never seen any Dutch harnesses or Georgians do it, but im sure they could learn as Saddlebreds arent naturally gaited either. She canters on the ground, but when you ask her to try to go forward and canter in saddle, its obvious no one has ever asked her to do this because she just gets really nervous like omg what am i supposed to do. She has a normal canter on the ground, but she was a buggy horse for the amish, so i dont think anyone ever cantered her much if at all in saddle. She looks like a standardbred but her back and hind legs do not, she lifts up more like a saddlebred in the back but she is super thick. People told me she is a standardbred but she has a high head set, which ive never seen in pure standardbreds, so im thinking shes either like a asb/standardbred, dutch/standardbred, or a georgian grande or friesian/stb. Or just a dutch harness, even possibly some morgan. Shes 15.3 hands, but she is a big horse. Bigger built then most morgans, so i know shes not a pure morgan.
