Here’s where I’m having issues. If you want your GF99 at half of your surf GF, then wouldn’t you just adjust your GF to where you want? Seems like shooting for the half GF99 defeats the purpose of making your own settings. I dive 50/75. My Surf GF is usually around 60% but my gf99 is always really low because I tend to dive near ambient pressure and have a gentle assent. So I’ve stopped using GF99 and just watch my Surf gf. That said I’m still a rec diver and haven’t started tech yet. Can you tell me what I’m missing? Feel like there’s a subtlety in here I’m missing.

Hey, you want your gf99 at half of your gf high which in you case is around 40%, not half of your surf GF. The higher your gf99 % is the faster you’re off-gassing and thay means that you’ll drop your surf gf down to your gf high quicker.

You forgot to utilize your GF99 as a speedometer for your gradient factor high setting. A "gentle ascent" is arbitrary if you learn how to use gf99 and surface gradient factor and understand its relationship with each other.
