Mechanical Engineer here: the 200 or 300m of water resistance are actually with purpose and not gimmicks. Besides the extreme depth watches, they are just the engineering version of who has the longest. The pressure tests fot wristwatches are made for static pressures. No movement and nothing touches the watch Besides water and a non moving stand. Now imagine you have a 50m capable watch and you bang it against a rock, ur dive light or something hard... High chances it starts leaking which is pretty sure the death of a delicate mechanical watch. That's why watches are water resistant to these depths. So they can endure more than just the pressure at depth. Also not just Boyles law. The ideal gas law counts here. Temperature, especially colder ones make the oros inaccurate. Not much though. But I saw a video of the watch in 9°C water and it was off by 1 to 2m. Nothing wild but I wouldn't trust it for deco.

I think getting good trim in single side mount is a little bit more difficult, especially for new divers who are just learning. For me I have to start with an AL 80 clipped to my left butt plate, and a 2 lb weight on a bungee slider on my right waist belt, then as the tank becomes neutrally buoyant I clip it to my sliding d-ring on my left and slowly have to slide it towards my midline as it gets lighter, at the same time sliding that weight on my right hip belt inwards towards midline. I feel like a new diver has enough to manage with just thinking about their regulators and BCD hose without messing with all that other stuff

Nitrox has another benefit besides extending your NDL at a certain depth for rec diving and that's being able to do multiple dives in one day with a shorter SI in-between due to the less amount of nitrogen you absorb from the nitrox mix compared to r3gular air. Nitrox still falls within the category of recreational diving because once you start going below 30m you are risking CNS oxygen toxicity with your pp02 going up on Nitrox (depending on the blend of course). Of course you are still beholden to your SAC rate so you may only buy a few more additional seconds of BT before you head back up but the true benefit imo is in doing multiple dives.

Nice stuff. I have found that the less trained the airport security guys are, the more difficulty is to go through. On a recent trip, on a small Mexican city a security guy made me check-in my regulator arguing that it's possible to make an explosive device out of it, specially because of the "timer" attached to the end of one of the houses (meaning the SPG)

Looking good Gus 👌 1. non metal knife -> noice, nothing special. Where I live this would be unlawful due to the length of the exposed blade, not the material. So taking it into a place with metal detector meh no issues until they frisk you and find it and call the cops on your regardless. Also pretty sure you will not be allowed to board with that, and if you don't declare and get caught by the scanner ( not metal detector, but the x-ray scanner they use for this exact reason ) you're probably going on a government watch list. 2. not-brass knuckles - > shape doesn't look like it would be good for intended use, the part which goes on the inside of your hand needs to be as tall as your hand and not just the width of two of the inner bones in your hand. If you hit something with that with full force you will still break bones in your hand, which is exactly the point of brass knuckles not to. Also, putting spikes on knucks looks mean, and will cause scaring when used, but also makes using it always a felony as I been explained more then once ( non spike -> could be argued you're not using potentially deadly force ). IANAL though so ymmv 3. knuckle-knife -> those are only 'useful'for self defense and then only if you're trained with them, opposed to brass knuckles where the idea is that everyone can use them 'naturally' ( which isn't the case as 95% of people don't even grip them correctly ). 4. Sharpy 'pick' -> not a knife, knife has an edge, but other then that not much to say about them other then 'they hurt'. Reminds me of when I was a teen and everyone had a screwdriver in the headset of their mopeds ( for self defense if someone tried to jump you ). 5. Tactical pen -> more used for 'control' / pressure points ( Hard2Hurt has a nice episode where he goes to someone who's very good with it ;) ). 6. prybar -> not a weapon, though could be used for control/pressure points just like a tactical pen by someone who's trained 7 leatherman multi tool -> multi tool 8 beard comb -> lol I had one just like it, except I won it at the fare so quality wasn't really up there ;) This was a nice change though, looking through your 'interesting knife collection'. I do miss the knife you pulled out during an episode, not sure which one but Woody was talking about 'sensible knifes' and you pulled out that Rambo knife ;) Next up, car collection? I know you have some fun stuff there. But that would require not just a show and tell but taking us on a ride in each one..

His point is let students learn rather than you thinking you have to teach them by talking too much and otherwise they aren’t learning. Guide them into true learning by a more subtle approach. Hi Paul! a great question. I deliberately used the word "learn" because that is the aim of any lesson. When I "teach" instructors, I use terms like "allow your students to learn" and "don't teach courses - teach people" These sound like sound-bites, but once you get the true idea of what they mean they're really powerful. But Paul, these are not really my ideas! The greatest teacher of all time was the Greek philosopher Socrates. The ideas that I talk about are very much a Socratic way of teaching.

7:30 I'm glad Mehdi acknowledged that he brought it on himself, since the other guy (to use Edd's phrase) didn't know what he didn't know. That's why being "nice" as a more advanced diver is very risky. Being tough on students is the only way to ensure they can enjoy the sport safely. Excellent video as always.

I have a dim view of "certification" and the term "instructor" as demonstration of a person's ability to do anything. I was preparing for my PADI IDC where I grew up on the island of Guam. During an exercise an OW "instructor"-not the IDC instructor-put a regulator in my mouth upside down (please spare me the comments that he was "testing me") and I started sucking water. I made a quick move across his arm to break free and rapidly swimming away I placed the regulator in my mouth in the correct position. This certified PADI instructor almost killed me. Too many people in diving have mental health problems (Narcissistic Personality Disorder comes to mind) and I'm not going to risk my life around some certified crazy. These instructors should pass a psychological evaluation as part of the certification process. Many of these high risk activities also have "structural problems" most glaring are the lack of risk assessments, safety officers and safety observers. Two "highly qualified" and "highly certified" divers entering high risk situations are disasters waiting to happen. They need to have extensive training in risk assessment and incident command system (or similar training through the US Coast Guard) . Finally people need to learn about something called "Cognitive Distortions" and how your thinking and the thinking of people around you can get you KILLED.

The fact is the scuba diving community has been in decline for years. Part of the problem was certification offered through PADI (owned by Providence Equity Partners). Certification was more hype and commercial than real training offered through other programs. But for whatever reason scuba diving has definitely lost popularity as an activity--many have been priced out of the market and this endeavor has, in economic terms, reached the point of "demand destruction." DVP training should be provided by the industry that makes the vehicles
