I consider this one of the most terrifying tornado videos ever recorded. The completely calm narration just makes it worse. When he says, "pick you up... man, I love you" and starts getting pelted with debris, you're sure he's filming the last seconds of his life. He was missed by only the narrowest of margins, and it was a STRONG tornado that passed near him. Diameter violence! Little tornadoes can easily be EF-5 and over much of their lifespan - they just have narrower damage paths.

Folks, just an F.Y.I. A car is one of the most dangerous places to be in a tornado! Even a fairly weak tornado can push or flip a car over. Unless you have a car with bulletproof glass, the debris could easily break the glass in a car and cut you up very badly. If you're in a car with a tornado moving towards you, then try to run inside a sturdy building, or dive into a nearby ditch or stream if possible. If you can't escape from your car, then crawl into the footwell of the car to help protect you from shattered glass and debris.

@xzmn61 I was thinking exactly the same thing. It did make a right turn at the Walgreen's roof top and that's what more than likely saved him. I was checking the wind pattern on the ground to see how quickly it went from debris on the outflow coming right at him, then shifting back the opposite direction which was when he caught part of the roof with his truck, he's really lucky it stayed on that right turn path!

I am from the midwest, should have known better, and still managed to get myself into a situation like this once. These fast moving storms ARE really unpredictable. And once you realize you have no where to go - getting out of the car is no longer an option. I had about 3 minutes to stop my car and try to find shelter and couldn't do it - in a major city. So if you were stuck in the middle of a strip mall area how fast could you get off the expressway ,park, and find a basement?
