Your video spoke directly to my 10 yr old son to the point that he asked me, when watching this, if you made it just for him. Some of what you said is exactly what he has been experiencing over the past few months. He's been seeing a therapist, but the therapist has never mentioned anything about OCD. I appreciate this so much....he feels so much better after watching your videos. And we'll be looking on the website you provided for a specialist on OCD in our area.

My son is 7 and has developed Moral OCD in the last two months. It's been so hard hearing him confess over and over about his bad thoughts. He is the nicest, kindest kid and it's heartbreaking to hear how these intrusive thoughts are consuming him and making him question whether or not he's good. I'm so glad for resources like this that really help me to better understand what he is going through. We are beginning therapy now and this information is helpful. Thank you SO much for this video!

I'm 45 and this is painfully familiar. My childhood was a semi pro nightmare. It's so hard not to lose friends and isolate coming from a christian background(now Agnostic/ Atheist). The shitty part is once you get rid of god, my OCD just picks up it's pace in another area. Multiple hospitalizations (voluntary) and constant background thoughts that are loud a great deal of the time. Therapy has helped, but comorbid conditions make it more complicated. I really appreciate this presentation. Very relatable. Most of my life has been an OCD vortex of horrendous thoughts and contemplations. What's worse is the desire to fix the messes I create. It generally just leads to a worse mess.

Only just watching this now. I agree with you on most of what you say. However, i've come to believe that many people who have OCD also suffer from some form of PTSD. Which means that their OCD wouldn't be so strong if they wouldn't have the particular trauma they are going though, and to no acknowledge a trauma is also not a great idea. The OCD is only so powerful because the person in question is feeling so weak because of a trauma.

They are keeping a close eye on me now due to suicide attempt as I did refuse to eat for 4 days. I noticed any accusations against you can fuel this problem too. I kept asking the CPN and support workers "Am I a bad person", they both replied No. I never confessed anything to my parents because I was not able to trust them due to their religious abuse on their behalf. They support workers do believe my parents were very evil for threatening me and siblings with certain things which I grew up believing in.

I am also constantly looking back at myself and I just hate myself for it. I didn’t think I had OCD because I’m very unorganized. But while watching this video I have seen many similarities. However, I don’t talk to people about it much because I think that they will hate me for talking. And I am afraid to open up about thoughts because I think they will think I am a bad person.

I try to avoid going to work and sleeping because those two things make me scared of hurting my boyfriend. I can’t sleep because when I dream for some reason I dream of cheating. I wake up in cold sweat and I text him at 4:00 in the morning about what I had just witnessed. I can’t go to work because I’m scared a coworker will flirt with me and that I might “allow it”. I try to find jobs where there’s mostly women working so the problem won’t exist anymore. I try to not sleep because I’m scared of my dreams. I haven’t slept well in weeks. I’ve had ocd for years about myself and people, and now that I’m in a new relationship it’s gotten so much worse.

I have had moral OCD my entire life and never knew until a few months ago and I have always had guilt in the workplace because I work with men. I stopped wearing makeup and I tried to find jobs without men. I would have dreams too. I learned that if I truly was that person who could do that, it wouldn't bother me so badly when the thought arises.

Is it normal to have almost all the topics in ocd? I seem to have many themes, not really at once, but it shifts, but, recently I have been thinking like, why I have this, can this come out of emotional neglect? Bad experiences in life with people, without having much emotional support? My family members, always made me doubt, let me feel like if I was less smart, making fun, sarcasm on the negative way, I never really had someone to talk to, so I wonder if bottling up emotions is the base of ocd? because when you don't have a person to talk too, you start to live more in your head no? I need to know why we get ocd, in my case, I notice I can be totally without ocd, when I don't experience stress, but when there is stress, like too much to handle it comes back! but thank you so much already for your videos! they have helped me alot! I feel 95% Recovered, especially seeing your videos for 2-3 weeks, It really gave me a big push forward! still 5 % To go, but theres still stress going on like, divorce of my parents and moving out, and work lol! I keep my head up high! Because I know I can do it! I will be so happy when it stops completely! oh! I also noticed, when you don't sleep well, it's harder to control the mental compulsions too! Do you perhaps know a way to stop counting with a mental compulsion? For some reason, when I look at something, or do something like combing my hair, washing dishes, my head starts counting xD I don't know how to stop it haha! sometimes it gives anxiety too!
@Natashadanielsocdtherapist6 жыл бұрын
It is very common for people to have many different variations of OCD themes. OCD also loves to morph, so it is typical for it to change all the time. When we are stressed, tired or sick OCD can get stronger. OCD is also very cyclical so you might have good periods and bad periods. OCD has a strong genetic component, so often the “why” is in the genes and not in the situation. If you are genetic predisposed to OCD, environmental stressors can trigger it to develop. I hope that helps a bit. I am glad I can offer you virtual support through my videos.

AT Parenting Survival for All Ages hmm it is interesting though! because no one in the family seems to have had this? only depression? but I do know, that my family, dad, mother, often had worry, like, worrying about many things, financial, but also personal, doubt, maybe it is that? because I also tend to doubt alot haha! Never thought I would have this! I remember watching a documentary uj school about ocd xD and it was only a few years after I began to experience it, maybe triggered by a heavy loss, but I remember thinking like, omg, if I have never watched that documentary, I would have had it now! Like, a seed that seemed planted or something haha! In school while watching, I clearly remember thinking, how bad it was for the people who have it, and that I was lucky to not have anything of it xD
@Natashadanielsocdtherapist6 жыл бұрын
Sometimes when there is Depression or Bipolar in the family history the offspring can have anxiety or OCD. It doesn’t have to be a direct OCD connection per se. I think many people look for what triggered their OCD and will often link it to an incident or event that happened. I tell people that the event didn’t cause the OCD, it might have just triggered the OCD to develop. If it wasn’t that event it would have been another event/situation.

What if the obsessive thought comes in when another emotion is evoked and OCD is trying to distract the child from the initial emotion? Would you suggest the child think, "why is my moral OCD giving me this thought NOW?" Is this kind of obsessions evoked to get away from other emotions something you see much and/or could talk about?
@Natashadanielsocdtherapist6 жыл бұрын
OCD will often show up when kids are tired, run down or stressed. It could be showing up when they are already stressed. It typically isn’t a distraction to avoid something else - as it is such a stressor in and of itself.
