I got diagnosed around Sep 2021. I had gone through multiple SSRI routes and had horrible, zombified effects that were not effective at all. I was fuzzy and inattentive throughout my work day which caused anxiety in itself, then depression towards why I couldn’t maintain thoughts, perform well at my job, etc. As a female and also a nurse, I know there is such a stigma. once I received the diagnosis from my psychiatrist, I too felt a HUGE weight. It not once crossed my mind that I could perfectly align with this diagnosis. Almost a year on 10mg of Vyvanse, just started Concerta 27.5mg. THANK YOU for sharing your story. There’s so many of us I know are relating to this strongly.

I'm 25 years old and in my third year of pharmacy school and my story is the same as yours!! I have been searching the internet for cases where anxiety and depression were mistakenly diagnosed instead of ADHD and I'm not seeing much, but it seems so clear to me after trying vyvanse that this was the case for me as well. I was diagnosed with anxiety and depression in high school and have struggled with it since at least middle school. I have tried 3 antidepressants, 1 antianxiety med, and 1 bipolar med. My psychiatrist didn't really seem to believe me about my self diagnosis of ADHD (lol why would he?) so he put me through such a hard time trying literally every med from other classes just to make sure. Low and behold vyvanse is the only one that has worked, and it works IMMENSELY. I'm so sad that all these years I could have actually learned in class instead of going home and sitting in isolation with earplugs in to study the material that I didn't take in at all during the day.

I was in this boat. I went through all of this whilst I completed my Mechanical engineering degree. I was diagnosed with depression seen and anxiety for about 3 years and tried every antidepressant under the sun with no improvement. After seeing many psychiatrist, eventually realised I need to research and figure this out because things weren't right. I came across Tracy Otsuka's podcast: ADHD for smart ass women ADHD that's when my life changed. If you guys haven't heard her podcast, I suggest you do. It's women from all walks of life sharing their story. You will be blown away by ADHD symptoms you've experienced all your life and thought less of yourself because you were falling short. It really helps hearing everyone's story and how it resonates with you. You start to see that you are not less of a person, just different. That difference is a superpower only we have!

You sound exactly like my cousin except she went almost 15 years being treated for anxiety and depression but no meds worked. After she told me her whole story it sounded exactly like mine, and we have the same reading issues, sleeping issues, hobby issues. Needless to say I’m approach 10 year of “anxiety and depression” treatment. I did have some anxiety early on in treatment due to school, but my depression never made sense

Thank you for this video! I got diagnosed when I was 32. Have been on a generic version of concerts for the most part. Adderal did not work well for me. And my period cycles have been irregular. Like some cycles are super long. I didn’t find any info on it being connected to ADHD meds, so I will have to bring it up to my doc and try Vyvanse.

The majority of people will know right away. Yet, for a smaller percentage they don’t help. I’m so glad that you are advocating so strongly for yourself!

I've been prescribed the patch when I was a little kid, then focalin, riddilin, Adderall, Concerta and then vyvanse. I'm now 24 and I can say Vyvanse is the most balanced as far as weighing the pros and cons. I was on adhd meds from 1st grade to a few years after highschool. I stopped for a few years, but now recently went and got represcribed Vyvanse bc I'm about to start college. I took 70mg of vyvanse everyday in highschool, but now I decided to try 50mg a day since I'd stopped for a few years. WOW was the 70mg a disgustingly strong dose for me in highschool, I can't believe I took it everyday, 50mg even feels a little much every once in awhile. I used to hate my parents growing up for sticking me on strong stimulants starting as a kid because I felt like in doing that, they completely erased any semblance of a baseline of my personality or just brain function as a kid. They didn't know, I was their 1st kid and neither of my brothers got prescribed anything like that. I'm ranting now but, Vyvanse has done me good for awhile, the logistics of all these different stimulant based ADHD medications is just insanely few and far between, from person to person, crazy how differently each medication can affect any given person. Anyways😅 Hope your doing well!

Omg! You’re a godsend! I too am experiencing cycle irregularities on concerta. So much so that I had to go on birth control. I asked the doctor if any of my current meds are affecting my period and she said “no”. But I had my period for a month and got my period twice in one month. The only thing that changed was me adding concerta.

I believe I was undiagnosed as a young woman back in the day ADHD it was attributed to boys. I was more like a boy as a child behaviorally, active, impulsive and extremely inattentive in school. Did not have any friends in elementary school, somehow the structure limited my ability to express myself. My home life was horribly abusive and so I went into substance use, still impulsive until I crashed. When I got clean, my brain was still never "normal" always struggling with understanding, motivation, keeping a job, etc....Since I had trauma, I was treated for anxiety and depression and ocd like thoughts as well as BPD traits. I did not feel like the BPD diagnosis fit me. I ended up being treated for cptsd as well. I have been in over 10+years of therapy and struggling to make sense of it, of understanding what it meant. One of my 3 psychiatrists had the feeling I had adhd, but refused to treat me, I guess he assumed I was too unstable and stimulant's would make my situation worse. I finally received a simulant treatment over 5 years later where I keep trying to find work, but literally can keep sabotaging myself. I was told I had no motivation, which hurt deeply because I was trying so hard. I have been working on and off and it is always so painful to have a job, as if I am disjointed somehow. Anyway, the stimulant's are helping, I'd rather honestly have a non-simulant treatment, but now my doctor won't prescribe them because he doesn't know the meds. It's incredibly frustrating and accessing a psychiatrist where i live is virtually impossible. I've lost so much time in life, if only people cared more and took this more seriously, rather than making it about us being flawed somehow and less worthy.

Started with Adderall twice a day and it made me crash. So I took it at bed time and my problems were solved. Told the doctor and she said nope. Switched to XR and the dopamine was all day. Got off because I thought I was being responsible. Past 5pm I shouldn’t be that stimulated. Lowered the dose and I made me a potato. Here I am on 20 mg vyvance. My doctor laughed when I asked what dose and she said pediatric. Don’t get the humor but that’s where she’s at with it. 20 mg seems to have me moving. I’m still a tad fatigued but I’m moving so that’s an improvement. If we don’t bump the dose I can see us doing a 10mg IR adderall in the morning to go with it. After 1130 I’m fine. I take it at 6.

I understand that adults get frustrated when asked about childhood symptoms, but it's just to confirm that you actually have ADHD because it's something you are born with. So there will be signs in childhood, but sometimes not overtly clear symptoms. My symptoms in childhood were mostly being extremely talkative. But I was not a terrible kid to have in class. My symptoms were mostly internal. Racing thoughts, easily bored, daydreaming, sleep issues etc.

Thank you for this video I’ve been on concerta for almost 2 years in the beginning I felt it helped me a lot and you definitely took the words out of my mouth..I to felt as if I could actually focus on people talking to me and could understand what they were fully saying, but it didn’t last for long, within a week or two it was wearing off within a couple hours, so my nurse practitioner increased and increased and it would maybe last an hour longer but the symptoms have been unbearable I have focus for a couple hours and then I have crippling anxiety all day and I’m so tired and dragging my feet all day, I never wanna leave my house because the anxiety is so bad and I’m soo exhausted. I’ve gone up and down on these meds. I’m going to make an apt with my family docter to see if there’s anything I can do, because I would rather go off of concerta then have to continue to go through this crazy rollercoaster. Thank you ❤

I noticed that this was a year ago… how are you doing now? I’m 57, just diagnosed, on Vyvance 20mg to start. No nausea but full headache. I take mine at 5am and am ready for bed around 6pm but wait until 9 to sleep. I saw a vid where someone was on the long-lasting & needed to look after family in evening… they added a very low dose or adderal for evening. Are you in the Van, BC area? I’m a couple cities away across the river. You are SPOT ON when you talked about those stupid tests and how our behaviour affects others. They need to update those & make a test for women. I can’t believe your doctor was still that ignorant about ADHD & women. It’s def frustrating. Hope you do an update as I’m just barely starting out & would like to hear how your year went. Did you

Thank you so much for this.. I was just diagnosed. I actually went to see my doctor for nursing school clearance lol (he’s also a psych provider) and he told me he thought I had adhd.. of course it was a process and he had to make sure I wasn’t bipolar ect… I definitely got in trouble a tonnnnn as a kid the list goes on but as I got older certain aspects of my life changed and it made me more anxious.. I was misdiagnosed w depression and anxiety early on… anyways everything finally makes sense I’m on vyvance now 20mg gonna bump up next visit.. my journey is just starting and I hope my life improves I believe it will.. ♥️

Have you checked yourself for Hashimotos? A complete full thyroid panel. Just not TSH. Hashimotos makes you exhausted, brain fog and inattentive. Also check for food sensitivities.

Vyvanse got so much money off of me & Shire won’t help. I hate this med for it. I’m on 50mg & it’s not even helping. I’m becoming very resentful of this med. Primarily because of the price!

i know there's a huge shortage right now but have you ever considered trying adderall? it starts at 5mg both immediate release and extended release so it's much easier to control your dose! i would recommend immediate release because it passes through your system quicker and it sounds like maybe that was what you were struggling with? the timing of it? i would just be aware to check the manufacturer of your generics because they only make generics now for the IR version. hoping you're doing much better now!!
