There is SO MUCH to understand and contemplate and appreciate about the logic and purpose behind the Ten Commandments-far deeper than the words themselves. This video series explains them and their continued necessity brilliantly. The best! Enjoy.

Profound? Seriously? Not one of his arguments makes sense! Name me one commandment that isn’t flawed! Just one! Plus the 10 commandments Prager is talking about are the wrong ones. Mozes broke these and they were replaced by a complete other set. That most if not all christian's don’t seem to know this proofs they don’t read their own bible.

If you consider that there may be some significance to the order of the laws it would hardly seem reasonable that cursing would qualify as second greatest in importance. But what many Christians fail to realize that they take the name of Jesus upon them at baptism. Failing to honor that covenant is taking His name in vain. Clergy who teach falsehoods are doing so in defiance of the position they hold as a representative of deity, they also take His name in vain.

BRILLIANT! Just BRILLIANT!! DARE I SAY - these moral precepts need to be taught in all our schools from Grade 1. I am not talking about religious proselytization - I am advocating inculcating our youth with fundamental life and societal affirming morality.
@mileslong9675
@mileslong9675 2 жыл бұрын
I totally concur. I’ve spent enough time in China to see that their lack of teaching fundamental scruples and ethics is the reason their society is so dysfunctional. They are even slowly realizing this, thus the sign advertising a school (in Shenyang, China) that has added teaching of scruples, a “new and noble concept.”
@Stormvetprime01
@Stormvetprime01 2 жыл бұрын
I get the complaint on "religious proselytization" but the religious part is what's nebulous - remember these commandments (statements) will mean nothing if it's some random John Doe's opinion. So the Supreme Being, the Creator - Yahweh - must be invoked to make them absolutes, objective truth. This gets rid of the nebulous part - there is no Allah or Buddha or Zeus or Jupiter. Only the Bible speaks the truth, not pagan and/or false god nonsense. Otherwise, things like murder and theft aren't bad for the perpetrator if he gets away with it, and if other people don't matter there's no downside. So the actual God MUST be part of the equation or there's no authority to either command or credibility to make statements.

@Lukas Lombardo Did you miss the LORD part? Did you forget the Great Flood with Noah where only 8 were saved? Check out Jeremiah 18:7, "If at any time I declare concerning a nation or a kingdom, that I will pluck up and break down and destroy it, ..." We can't anthropomorphize God - He's already told us, "All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" and elsewhere He warns us, "The wages of sin is death." so it's only His mercy and grace that saves us. If God were to be fully just, all of humanity would be destroyed, myself included. Read the opening of Isaiah 6 and try to get a feel for how HOLY the Lord is, and how far beneath Him we little insect-like humans are. We are a vaporous nothing. All deserve death, the LORD cannot murder, and He may choose any method or agent He wishes to make a place clean.

@Lukas Lombardo see my reply - I'm assuming your response got fragmented?
@Stormvetprime01
@Stormvetprime01 2 жыл бұрын
@Lukas Lombardo Good sir, step back and behold your position here - you've chosen to interject commentary in a theological discussion (Theo - God; logy from logos - in this context "study of") then you immediately launch with humanist banter totally ignoring the subject matter, using old, stale criticisms of Scripture that have been disproven and shamed myriad times by people actually educated on the text as exegeted in context. Your elevation of Man to God's equal is right out of Lucifer's fall in Isaiah 14:12 - 16a: “How you are fallen from heaven, O Day Star, son of Dawn! How you are cut down to the ground, you who laid the nations low! You said in your heart, ‘I will ascend to heaven; above the stars of God I will set my throne on high; I will sit on the mount of assembly in the far reaches of the north; I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High.’ But you are brought down to Sheol, to the far reaches of the pit. Those who see you will stare at you and ponder over you: ...." Nazi is it? We know Yahweh is no socialist, because he says in Genesis 3:19 Man will eat by the sweat of his brow, not freeload off one another as the left would have everyone do. There's also the "don't covet don't steal part" which Marxism throws in the trash in its very premise, but I digress. By the way, to make your accusation "work" you had to add "undesirables" which is subjective vs. what I mentioned, "sinners", which is absolute and objective. God has EVERY RIGHT to do what His good pleasure is with HIS creations (that's you and me). We've both sinned and deserve nothing but death. Any favor or mercy He chooses to bestow is of His grace, which cannot be earned, otherwise it's no longer grace but instead a deserved wage. Thus we cannot equate the flawless (perfectly just) actions of the Creator with any action fallen Man may execute. With respect it is your relativism that is clouding you here - a "good person" in Man's eyes (let's be liberal and say that means "significantly better than Hitler was") is still a STAGGERING distance from the Holiness of God, remains a sinner, and still deserves death.. This includes folk heroes like Mother Theresa, et al. If even she got what she deserved, rather than grace, she'd be in Hell, regardless of any stack of "good works" - see Romans 9:10 - 23: "And not only so, but also when Rebekah had conceived children by one man, our forefather Isaac, though they were not yet born and had done nothing either good or bad-in order that God’s purpose of election might continue, not because of works but because of him who calls- she was told, “The older will serve the younger.” As it is written, “Jacob I loved, but Esau I hated.” What shall we say then? Is there injustice on God’s part? By no means! For he says to Moses, “I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion.” So then it depends not on human will or exertion but on God, who has mercy. For the Scripture says to Pharaoh, “For this very purpose I have raised you up, that I might show my power in you, and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth.” So then he has mercy on whomever he wills, and he hardens whomever he wills. You will say to me then, “Why does he still find fault? For who can resist his will?” But who are you, O man, to answer back to God? Will what is molded say to its molder, “Why have you made me like this?” Has the potter no right over the clay, to make out of the same lump one vessel for honorable use and another for dishonorable use? What if God, desiring to show his wrath and to make known his power, has endured with much patience vessels of wrath prepared for destruction, in order to make known the riches of his glory for vessels of mercy, which he has prepared beforehand for glory- ...." It's all there in the Word, sir - but you go ahead and shake your fist at the gate. Meanwhile you've still got to get around how Darwinism and Neo-Darwinism have been proven abject failures, not mathematically possible to have happened - and now evolution's been disproven. So the CREATOR is still there, and thus is Pascal's Wager. If you have to edit someone else's comments to fit your predefined categories, then you're not in the debate, you're just ranting.

Pausing for comment on the Third Commandment, you clarified and put in to words something that I have only been able to intuite and could barely begin to express. About five or six years ago, as I was struggling with changes in my church, and I prayed and the question came to my mind, "What is the bridge too far? One of the decisions I made was that I would never abuse children in the Lord's name. It became my guiding principal throughout COVID when it came to how I mentored teenagers and what limits to place on the conduct of other adults toward my children. Never abuse children in the Lord's name became my source of courage. It's good to know that there is a divine law that's in line with my thinking.

I really enjoyed this talk on the 10 Commandments. I wish the 10 Commandments were allowed in court houses like they used to be. I was just curious as to why there wasn't much discussion of the 4th Commandment. But I think that's my Missouri Synod Lutheran upbringing. That is the 1st Commandment with a promise. Thou shalt honor thy father and thy mother so that all shall be well with thee and thou mayest live long on the earth. I went to parochial school K-8 so i guess this was drilled into me. My father was also a Lutheran parochial school teacher. So I was hoping this Commandment would have been discussed more. But other than that I thoroughly enjoyed this and it was very uplifting and educational. Thank you, Mr Prager.

No restaurants, no bars, no shops, no gas stations were open. People were walking around quietly, someone might be playing a guitar quietly, and everyone talked quietly. It was like the end of world happened, but it was nice.

The only commandment that begins with the word "Remember"(the fourth) is precisely the one that humankind has forgotten. The Good Lord foresaw it and that is why He emphasized it, "Remember the Sabbath..". There are countless blessings associated to dedicate an entire day each week to focus solely on God and family. An entire day to focus on God's attributes, His creation, and His plan for us; putting aside during this day our personal agendas (no matter how convenient and profitable they might be), businesses, and selfish interests. We would be more altruistic and less selfish as individuals, and a more godly and less evil civilization.

@Lukas Lombardo Lukas, all you seem to be doing is coming back with ad hominem but not addressing the very issue you invoked. You come out of the gate essentially saying God, choosing to act with His own creatures (us) any way He pleases, is tyrannical. You concurrently assert anyone fearing God (thus respecting that right of His) as being a National Socialist. You did so in the context of a Scriptural discussion, explaining the very sins which proves His actions just. Then when the supporting Scripture and tangential writings are supplied, you accuse that sourcing as being on meds and/or being a National Socialist. I've tried to help here, absorbed the insults, and would continue to try - but I don't know how I can help you here anymore. Certainly you have the right to say you don't care for what the Bible says - but you're only credible in doing so when you can show you completely understand it. You seem to have no grasp of any of it save for cherry-picking verses that atheists have tried before, and have been disgracingly embarrassed on time and time again.

One of the most eye-opening explanations of the law: 8 years of Sunday School and 4 years in private Catholic school and this man explained more than my teachers in just 57 minutes. Wish more people would watch this; I'm not super religious but I hate when people sh*t on the Hebrew and Christian bible without 1) understanding the actual LANGUAGE of these books and 2) realizing that a lot of "religious" people in the world aren't really, and the evil they commit while pretending to serve god will give them a one-way ticket to hell in the express lane. It's always funny to me how ppl call Christianity a cult of evil people when in reality it's men like Prager, and other true men of God (Jewish, Christian, AND Muslim), who continue the works of their forebears and honor others while also living their life in accordance with the law, and THEY are the ones who get made fun of for DARING to believe in God, for going to church, for having the balls as a father to not let their daughters sleep around or wear revealing clothing. For being more... what was the word? "Old Fashioned"? The non-religious pretenders rightfully get condemned, and the true God-fearing men get ridiculed for DARING to believe in a higher power and live their lives as such. Makes me sick.

John 13:19 King James Version (KJV) “Now I tell you before it come, that, when it is come to pass, ye may believe that I am he.” 2 Timothy 3 King James Version 1 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. 2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, 4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; 5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. 6 For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts, 7 Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. 8 Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith. 9 But they shall proceed no further: for their folly shall be manifest unto all men, as their's also was. 10 But thou hast fully known my doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith, longsuffering, charity, patience, 11 Persecutions, afflictions, which came unto me at Antioch, at Iconium, at Lystra; what persecutions I endured: but out of them all the Lord delivered me. 12 Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution. 13 But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived. 14 But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them; 15 And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. 16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 17 That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works. And more end time signs: Matthew 24 2 Peter 3 Time is running out, accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour, the Gospel: Acts 10:34-43 King James Version 34 Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons: 35 But in every nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted with him. 36 The word which God sent unto the children of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ: (he is Lord of all:) 37 That word, I say, ye know, which was published throughout all Judaea, and began from Galilee, after the baptism which John preached; 38 How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him. 39 And we are witnesses of all things which he did both in the land of the Jews, and in Jerusalem; whom they slew and hanged on a tree: 40 Him God raised up the third day, and shewed him openly; 41 Not to all the people, but unto witnesses chosen before God, even to us, who did eat and drink with him after he rose from the dead. 42 And he commanded us to preach unto the people, and to testify that it is he which was ordained of God to be the Judge of quick and dead. 43 To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins.

I specifically wanted to ask you about the 3rd Commandment, as I've been taught all of my life that saying "God Damn" was "taking the Lord's name in vain". It's viciously frowned upon hear in the Bible Belt of the South(USA) to say it. I'm not sure when or who started that teaching, but it's been wide spread for several generations at least. I never felt that it was what the 3rd Commandment meant, even as a child. Thank you for clarifying it.

With regards to the third commandment, please remember that we are not to use "God","Lord",Jesus". as a swear, cuss word. Whether you are angry, frustrated, anxious, depressed etc. THIS IS WRONG NOW AND FOREVER WILL BE. GOD'S NAME IS ABOVE ALL NAMES AND IT IS TO BE GLORIFIED.

Have you ever put the geneology of Adam to Noah on paper with their Hebrew meanings? Adam - man Seth - appointed Enosh - mortal/miserable Kenan - sorrow Mahalelel - the blessed God Jared - shall come down Enoch - teaching Methusela - His death shall bring Lamech - despairing Noah - comfort/rest Now put it in sentence: Man (is) appointed mortal (and) sorrow. (But) The blessed God shall come down teaching His death shall bring (the) despairing rest. Thats the gospel hidden in the Torah.

@@irisgonzalez-caulder9352 Gospel is the Old English translation of Greek εὐαγγέλιον, meaning "good news";[16] this may be seen from analysis of ευαγγέλιον (εὖ "good" + ἄγγελος "messenger" + -ιον diminutive suffix). The Greek term was Latinized as evangelium in the Vulgate, and translated into Latin as bona annuntiatio. In Old English, it was translated as gōdspel (gōd "good" + spel "news"). The Old English term was retained as gospel in Middle English Bible translations and hence remains in use also in Modern English.

The seventh commandment is the flip side of the fifth. We cannot expect our children to honor us if we ourselves aren’t honorable. We have no moral standing to ask them to defer to us when we cheat on and betray our spouse. Parents must honor each other if they expect their children to honor them. Honor isn’t so much about showing loyalty although that’s part of it; its about showing our values to the people around us and no society can survive without values.
@321lionheart8
@321lionheart8 2 жыл бұрын
It's not the flip side rather a further detailed explanation. You'll be surprised when you ask people their understanding or how they live their life concerning treating people they want to be treated. I've actually met a man who want to ask do you believe it's right that you should cheat on your wife and he says yes. I asked him how would you feel if she did this to you? He responded, it's fair game I don't mind. Just saying treating people the way you want to be treated or the fourth commandment which is specifically not honoring but love honor is a mistranslation. The correct translation is love your father and your mother and your neighbor as thyself that that days maybe long upon the land was The Lord Of God give it thee...... That's the fourth commandment in its correction. Love not honor. But back to my point this may improved why God must go into detail over exactly what he means by loving your neighbor as thyself which Jesus commonly quotes and clearly he got that quote from the fourth commandment. Everyone would be left to their own devices in their own definition of how to treat people the way they would want themselves to be treated. I even spoke to a thief ask them the same question how would you feel if someone stole from you. His answer to the first man was strangely similar. It's all fair game essentially. More precisely he said that's my fault for not watching over my stuff. You see? Just simply telling people to treat people the way you want to be treated or loving thy neighbor as a self is not enough. The fourth commandment one might say is a broad brush general concept of how he wants man to treat other man. Which also encompasses woman. The remaining five commandments simply goes into detail of this.

If your trying to see God and the messiah through a protestant colored lens it will always be a struggle and its by design too. Throw those theologies away and just read it for yourself. And start at the beginning NOT in the middle of the apostolic letters as most protestants ("christians") would have you do. TIP: The 10 commandments are N-O-T covenant specific laws that were "nailed to the cross". They are forever laws that pre-existed mt sinai and all 10 post exist the cross. The true value of the fourth commandment is the fact that in the seventh day God rested when finished His blessed work and that includes all the tiny aspects of your live. Therefore there are two ways to deal with this common personal situations, one is by your own force, that complicate things farther, and the second is to make sure to do right and let God show what is the blessing He already did in the seventh day. This is a life changing criteria because it works, it really does. So, the sabbath is made to remember that life is about doing the right thing and rest letting God do His job no matter how menacing the situation is. Remember, do good and then rest, because what it comes should always be the will of God. Don’t be afraid because that’s exactly how you’re truly blessed by God. ---- Mr Prager, you really need to become a Christian to become a true Jew. Let aside your common jew traditions and pride please. We need true believers.
