The transformation vaguely reminds me of the first G1 Windcharger from the 1980's. There was a scene in BB's IDW mini-series (2010), where he was having a "Mexican stand-off" with Skywarp, and he beat him by activating a control board that fries the circuits of every near-by transformer, BB's own included. Whilst Ratchet was repairing BB, he upgraded his armour and weapons. Hence, the new look.. BB was also the acting Autobot leader at the time, so it makes sense for him to be taller.

Great review buddy. I love that you are defending Bee from his numerous detractors within the fandom. I'll always be a Bee lover. He was the 1st TF my parents purchased for me in 1984 so he will always have a place in my heart.

It does indeed come with a comic and it's actually in-continuity, which was actually pretty cool. Most of the time, the accompanying comic that comes w/ a toy is a throwaway comic that matters little. This is one of the first times I've ever wanted to keep the packaging a figure came with because it looked so nice. Also: if you've never read any of the IDW comics, they have two series--More Than Meets the Eye and Robots in Disguise--that are the perfect jumping on point. ---->

His transformation scheme is basically the same as RTS Windcharger. He has the back window that has to be pushed together for vehicle mode too. It's very similar.

I was just about to say that. Not to mention the vehicle mode looks rather similar as well. Personally, I think it'd be cool to see a Windcharger repaint (with a new head, of course) mainly because RTS Windcharger didn't get much of a wide release if I remember correctly.

In the comics Bumblebee was originally a Volkswagen Beetle wit a driver hologram that looked like Lindsay Lohan. When Optimus Prime steps down as leader of the Autobots and turns himself in to the human authorities, the Autobots take a vote for their new leader, and they all agree they can trust Bumblebee to make decisions that are their best interests. Feeling too small and weak to leads the Autobots, and feeling that he isn't being taken seriously, he has himself reformatted.

I like the overall design, but I'm having a hard time seeing it as G1 Bee. Granted, the bio actually explains it, but I guess I'll get the Goldfire version, I'll stick to classics for Bumblebee and have this mould as his upgraded form, at least for me, it makes more sense. Good review as always, and just as a suggestion, you should consider also having a dark background for figures of these colors, because the all-white one makes it hard to properly distinguish the yellow's shade.

+Jonny Maher yes it did but you probably threw it away. The artwork on the box is the comic the artwork is from the comic but you can see it inside the packaging.

Besides the classics and RTS Bumblebee, all the other notable Bumblebees have been pretty tall. The WFC BB was tall and so was the ROTF battle blades BB.

I know you have a problem with the head, but Bumblebee the leader of the autobots in the IDW series right? So you could make it look like he pretty tough if you kind of rotate his legs back and stand him up that way. Just saying.

I do have him, and the legs and shoulders do remind me of Windcharger, and he has the rotating hands to weapons gimmick.

So was that actually a comic book that came with him or just box art? I was debating getting this guy even though I kind of like the design because I've never read the IDW comics he's based on but if he actually comes with a comic I'd love to get him.

I shaved down the notches where his shins slide in and out along, so they slide smoothly now. It helps a LOT. Still, the transformation is just..unsatisfying, not enough steps? We've seen it all before? I feel as if parts don't do enough. I'm not sure if I regret the purchase, but I got him and Trailcutter, but I sorta wish I got Orion Pax instead of Bee (Which means I'll just get him tomorrow or something lol) But thanks for mentioning the shins/rearwindow, didn't notice it myself

Dear optibotimus, have even considered reading some of idw's transformers comic book material. The stories are dark, gritty, intense, mature, adventurous, and complex to a fault. They have effectively revitalized, reinvigorated, and further contributed to the grandeur of g1 lore.

hey optibotimus does the joints where the shoulders are in the chest different looking? i seen a mod or fix for the right shoulder joint behind the chest that might be giving you problems with getting the chest pushed in more

Did Takara and Hasbro differ like usual in their paint schemes? The one of this that I have doesn't have the black stripes but it is an official TF Generations BB.

Not a bad figure, they really like to make auto-transforming kneepads on these figures, I have seen ti on Orion, Megatron and now bumblebee, its kinda cool :) Great review

as you mentioned, the only reason I'd pass on this guy is because he's Bumblebee and I'm sick of the sheer amount of different versions there are of him. It's almost a shame that he's a good figure, because if he wasn't then I wouldn't have this mini-dilemma :P I'll definitely be getting the Goldbug/fire repaint though, i'm glad that exists and it looks very nice :)

The rear bumper has a 2006-10 charger feel so that's why people probably why people think that he's a charger. But he really looks like a mustang.

may I suggest next time you do a brightly painted figure that you use a different background or rearrange your lighting just a bit so that there isn't much glare and a little bit more contrast so people can see the toy. I really think it would help a lot.

Does Hasbro/Takara have a license-issue with a lot of models lately with Factory names and such? A good example is this: Mustang-like front, rear more direction Charger. Prime's not really Camaro like BB. There was a time you could clearly see what brand a transformer had. Although not factory related : Blitzwing: The g1 version with some fantasy looked like a Mig-25/ Type 74 ... this Generation Blitzwing - well it is a tank and it is a plane something like that.

I'm a big mark for BB, but i really didn't like this design all that much. I'm still not a great fan of this figures aesthetics, but this incarnation has really grown on me. Love the vehicle mode, and the articulation has great possibilities for poses, and of course the weapon in my opinion is pretty cool. I think it's a great figure. Fantastic review. Helped me a lot with the rear window configuration.

To be fair, he is a toy reviewer and not a comic reviewer. I am sure that there are plenty of reviews to be had on these Spotlight comics as they are not new, they just have new covers to go with the toys they are packaged with.

In my opinion BUMBLEBEE looks like a SALEEN MUSTANG but just have a different color but if your able to put TRANSFORMERS DOTM deluxe class BARRICADE and BUMBLEBEE together they would look very similar but other than that the figure is great
