Video Review: Transformers: Masterpiece MP-M04 OPTIMUS PRIME

Watching this brings me back to the first video I ever watched of you: Revenge of the Fallen Leader Prime. You got me into not just Transformers KZbinrs, but action figure KZbinrs in general. I have stayed subbed for all these years, and want to thank you for the years of great content you have put out. Also, you helped me figure out how to transform that figure back then, lol!

I was on the fence about this figure for a long time since I already have the ROTF one, but then I saw how great Prime and Bumblebee scaled together so I just had to get both. My biggest issue is that they chose to make Prime compatible with the G1 MP trailer, and not keep the trailer hitch from the ROTF mold. I know that Prime doesn't scale well with the UFO trailer, but still! I also wouldn't mind paying extra if they had released this figure with its own trailer, like they did with MP-10. The ROTF mold displayed so beautiful with that UFO trailer in weapons rack mode too. As far as the alt mode goes, I never display my transformers figures in those modes anyways. In robot mode, both MPM Prime AND Bumblebee are fantastic figures in hand! Sure, they both have their own issues, but they are the best representations of the movie characters available to this date. But I wouldn't recommend them if you intend to flip them back and forth though. Just take Prime out of the box and pose and display him on the shelf. Bee you need to transform though, since he comes packaged in alt mode, but I'd just pose and display him on the shelf as well. Im really looking forward to see how MPM-5 Barricade turns out though, and IF Takara/Hasbro can manage to keep the esthetics quality throughout the line (or as far as it will go anyways). I really want as many of the first movie figures as possible, even though I hated the Bayformers movies with a great passion LOL!

Since there's been several ROTF Leader Prime KOs, I'm interested in getting the Premium Striker Optimus and display him in truck mode and MPM-04 Prime in robot mode. Win-win for both figures on my part!

Hi Peaugh. You're not supposed to snap the matrix compartment past the blue torso pieces in transformation. Getting it to where it stops is already enough room for the head and everything. You could break yours if you keep doing this and cause further paint chipping.

To be fair, in my experience the gap between the frame and the cab is there in real life as well. Point of order: You can see right through the truck. Well, it IS an old-school Pete. You really can see clean through from one side to the other on conventional designs. Maybe not such a huge gap, but then the fuel tanks are riding weird too, so...

hopefully if they decide to reuse and do the slight retooling to make Dotm prime, which im sure we will see eventually, they revise the truck mode so it properly tabs together. and gets rid of that horrendous gap under the smoke stacks. they could also give us a buster prime gas tank cannon gimmick with it too. overall its a great figure just needs some minor fixes if they decide to revise it for future releases.

Looks alright and the face plate gimmicks work nice. The second mode has the face like Evasion mode prime! Great review though :)

My solution to the truck mode is to just have my buster prime next to the mpm Optimus, that way I have a near perfect display for both modes of Optimus from the movies.

Unfortunately, that fix doesn't work for every one of these. The Hasbro release seems to be particularly difficult. His "trick" does NOT work for mine.

Get the japanese version bois. Fixes gap issue on mine, and also on all the reviews i’ve seen of it. A little more paint. All the unpainted plastic is made with a lighter shade of gray, so they do not stand out like a sore thumb and matches better with the silver. P.S. the figure you see on the box is a picture of the japanese version.

Ritzchie Sanjaya i like the mpm’s mold, the proportions, and the gimmicks. It has better proportions, better execution of the swords, and the guns do not form from the gas tanks as the buster prime mold might suggest. The buster prime mold is better in paintjob, and holds together in truck mold. However, I have the japanese version of the mpm4, which fixes the mold so that the truck mold sits flush, so i only have 1 problem with the mpm4 which is the paint.

snookhammer hate it, like it, up to ya. But you cant deny that bayverse brought a new gen of fans to the franchise. The unicron wars, cybertron, was bitting the dust. The franchise was dying. Bayverse arguable revived the genre, and gave much design inspiration to transformers prime which is arguably one of the best show in the recent years. With 5 movies in the trilogy, michael bay has to be doing something right. I like the bayverse design of movies 1-3. Never a huge fan of aoe/tlk design. Optimus prime’s window titties are almost as iconic as he is. It is a prime signature, taking that away in the 4th/5th installment killed it for me.

mrbilra this figure is more proportionate. From the backpack, to the limbs, everything is more proportionate. The armguards on the striker prime were too big, his backpack was too big, his legs is too skinny, his arms are Too far apart from his body, his truck’s toolbox sticks out from his legs. The reason that the truck mold doesnt hold together all that well is because they prioritized the robot mode. Which is arguably the better sacrifice as most people will display their transformers in bot form.
