For the auto ISO work around. That only works for the M1 Mark II. When he says put the camera in manual mode. What he means is turn the mode dial on top of the camera away from the video position to the M photography manual mode position. From there you can turn the iso to auto. And of course make sure the record button is defined to record when it's pressed. Now you're basically in a photography manual mode. But when you press the red record button. Video recording starts, in manual mode, with auto ISO, using the settings programmed when the mode dial is at the video position. Pretty neat. Thank you for that tip.

Do you happen to know how to change this to "NTSC-like" mode, where 30 and 60 fps would be available. I am really struggling with this and google isn't helping at all :/ Many thanks in advance.
@ForsgardPeter Жыл бұрын
PAL and NTSC is standards for analog video. In digital it does not really matter. You can find it from Recording settings if I remember correctly. In the newer cameras there are both 50p and 60p available automatically with out any switching between.

The majority of my photographs are taken underwater. I use a new Olympus OM10 Mark IV in a housing with a range of lenses and strobes. My underwater video with other cameras has been disappointing. Particularly the white balance. Using ambient light without strobes, if I put the camera in M, P or S mode and then set the white balance manually (which you have to do regularly with changes in depth), if I then press record, will the video reflect the saved manual white balance? Or will it automatically set what it thinks is the correct WB for video? Is there a better way to change it for the video? Best wishes

Hi Peter, which external mic would you recommend when using the Olympus E-M10 Mk III? Unfortunately this camera does not have an accessory port for an external mic. So how do I get good audio if I want to make videos outside in the field? I read a field recorder like the Zoon H1 is a good option. But can I attach this hand recorder to the camera? Being alone in the field I cannot hold my camera and this hand recorder at the same time. Is there a smart solution fot his problem?
@ForsgardPeter4 жыл бұрын
Zoom H1 is one solution, but it might pick sounds from too wide area. One that could work is Olympus LS-P4. You can adjust the angel it records. One solution could be having a lavalier mic and Zoom H1 or LS-P4 in your pocket.

Peter, responding to your Auto Iso advice at 5:00 I checked with Olympus E-M1 Mark II latest firmware and confirm taking video in any photo mode means the camera goes in an automatic mode (P?), no matter if you try it in M, S or A ! You have no manual control about Fstop or Shutter. You can test it easily, go in manual focus, open F (2.8 or so) and then press recording button, you always loose your bokeh, getting lots of depth of field. So trying to work around missing Auto ISO in Video mode does not work in photo modes!. Anyway the only way to do correct video exposure properly with recommended shutter 1/48 1/50 or 1/100 is a good ND Filter. There would be too much (day) light anyway with 1/50 and open F 2.8 or 4 (for nice bokeh) to compensate this with Auto ISO. You can't go that low with Iso. So I don't complain, the touch screen allows to adjust Fstop or Iso as much as possible and pretty smooth (no flickering). Buy a good ND filter with a rubber hood to easily turn the Filter during filming. Thats all...

Thank you Peter for this video. Not much new in it for me, as I already did a fair amount of research for my OMD EM 1 II when I started with video. However, I am really looking forward to what you will tell in the next video. Have you any good suggestions how to use the flat profile LUT from Olympus for color grading in Premiere Pro? As it seems, the LUT somehow works the other way round and make the image even flatter instead of adding contrast and vibrancy. I am at the moment starting of doing more adventure videos after doing photography for many years now - especially appreciating the IBIS I never had in my Canons before I made the switch. If you are interested have a look at my channel. Currently, I got a video about a climbing trip and a video where I follow a friend of mine during a day of nature photography.
@ForsgardPeter6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comment. I have not used much the LUT in Premiere that Olympus provides for the flat profile. According to Olympus its for Da Vinci and it does not work properly in other editing software if it works at all. I have tested it in Da Vinci Resolve and in worked ok in that software. I need do some more tests for next Tuesday. The best solution is to make a LUT of your own. It can be done in Photoshop. I will cover that in the next video or make a separate video if the part 2 is going to be too long. I defenetly check out your channel.
@lukas50926 жыл бұрын
Awesome. Looking forward to that. Already tried to create my own LUT but with mixed results - however until now I only did it with LR. So it would be highly appreciated. I subscribed to your channel, so I will not miss the videos when they come. Keep up the great work :)

@ForsgardPeter5 жыл бұрын
For photos, the settings can be seen with editing software or an EXIF-reader, but with video, I am not sure if the info can be seen. maybe a free software called VLC can show you the settings. Usually, the shutter speed is half the frame rate. If you are shooting at 25fps you will have the shutter speed at 1/50s. This comes from the old movie cameras where the shutter speed was constant. With this so-called 180 degrees rule, the moving subjects in a frame look quite natural. You have more control of the settings if you use the Movie Mode.
