They usually do. The back up is cellular. Today you can buy a cellular jammer and that's the end of that. The primary alarm is easy to defeat as well. Back in the day high value targets like banks and jewelry stores were physically monitored by the police department. There were even analog gauges that monitored the resistance of the wiring in the alarm system. So if you tampered with the wiring a person could see the resistance change on a guage. Now days it's all digital and easier to bypass with the right equipment.

not really with jewelry. it's very easy to melt the gold into bars and sell the stones individually. you just don't sell any unique stones and you wait a couple years so this forgotten. yes I used to do this type of stuff. I'm not proud of it, was in and out most of my life, been strait almost a decade.
