いつか帰るところ…のアレンジ この時点ではプレイヤーも多分曲名を知らず、ウイユヴェール自体も異世界テラの説明に過ぎない場所ながらBGMに意味を持たせてくるオシャレな演出 サントラなんかで曲名と照らし合わせて聞くとプレイ時の記憶が拡張されるのがいい経験でした

How to get through Oeilvert: 1. Take Steiner, Garnet and Vivi with you. 2. Before going into the Dungeon, farm for Exp and Ap in the Forgotten Continent by killing a group of four Cactaurs. Using Thundara and occasionally Ramuh will wipe them out. 3. Realize you made a mistake taking Garnet and vivi with you because you forgot Magic isn't allowed in Oeilvert. 4. Get annoyed by the Epitaphs as it will usually one-shot you. 5. *Fight a freaking Airship!* 6. Save your imprisoned friends by using Cid. Waste precious time equiping your party before they are saved...without realizing the timer still goes down. 7. Rage as you constantly fail a game of Red light/Green light with a stupid monster. 8. Suffer through the Desert Palace as you face monsters with high physical defense. 9. *Cry*

I love the little flashes of Terran history and civilization you see here. On an old CRT TV the bright blues sorta resemble Esthar from FFVIII, so when I first placed this game back at the turn of the century, I thought maybe the two games were connected in some weird way.

For me, having Freya, Steiner, and _Sarah_ here is the way to go with Zidane. Freya can cast Reis' Wind from time to time for party sustenance, Steiner just hits hard and can use his skills well enough, and Sarah... she's gonna suck no matter where she goes, so she might as well be here and occasionally heal smacking with a Healing Rod or with Healer on her skills as relying on her to be consistent with anything more important is gonna be prone to needless risks and wastes of turns. Thing is, I'd much rather have Amarant Chakra with the remaining mages at Kuja's Palace, because magic spamming is highly warranted, and it's just more cost effective to toss Ethers/Tents on him now and then than trying to do that for your whole party, just to make the MP spamming trek more self-sustaining solving the puzzles, and grinding if you're inclined. It can be MORE self-sustaining having him Chakra himself, but his MP values are unlikely to be good and he doesn't learn Power Up for Chakra yet, so giving him an item is just plain faster as he sustains the rest.

Ugh… Also how is all this technology still in perfect working condition when it hasn't had any residents to renovate and do maintenance on since the failed fusion? [Boss Battle vs. Ark. After it's destroyed, Zidane reaches in and gets the stone] The boss that you fight, Ark, is actually apparently a Terra Eidolon (As the Wiki explains: " Eidolons are beings that manifested to protect the crystal of Gaia. However, Ark appears associated with Terra rather than Gaia, making its appearance as an eidolon rather mysterious. Whether Ark was conjured by Gaia's or Terra's crystal is ambiguous, as eidolons are beings created by the crystal to be its protectors, however, the crystal of Terra is said to be too weak to manifest them. Ark did not appear on the Eidolon Wall in Madain Sari, and thus appears to be an eidolon that the summoner tribe was unfamiliar with." Thought it would have been interesting to see some summoner research notes trying to study it), and possibly a prototype of the Invincible based on those holograms we saw earlier. But that doesn't make sense because Eidolons are ethereal beings, not artificial machines. Granted, it's unclear if the Ark that you fight here in Oeilvert and the Ark that is summoned in battle are the same entity, the Oeilvert Ark could just be the prototype Invincible that was based off of the Eidolon as the Oeilvert one can't transform like the Eidolon can. But what's really disappointing is how Ark has no real storyline importance, it's just purely a gameplay thing, being Garnet's strongest summon. This is especially irritating because it has a lot of parallels to Alexander, Alexander is the strongest Gaia Eidolon, while Ark is most likely the strongest Terra Eidolon, both have mecha like appearances, they have opposite elements (Alexander's is Light/Holy while Ark's is Darkness) and yet, weirdly, Kuja isn't even after it despite how it could actually rival Alexander. The only reason Kuja sent the party here was so that he could get the Gulug Stone to get into Mount Gulug on the Lost Continent so that he could extract Eidolons from one of the summoner characters (will be getting to those convoluted events next chapter) and seems to know nothing about Ark.

These videos seem to be mostly focused on lore, so maybe they're thinking that Zidane wouldn't leave Garnet in Kuja's castle, especially when she's in her traumatized state?

Garnet’s mute angst was one of the worst parts of the game and such forced drama. This is what I mean by saying that Garnet drowns in a puddle of her own angst. Quote from my review fic: [Zidane runs to the telescope. Dagger's there] And so it begins… Garnet's "going mute" BS subplot. Zidane "Well, look who's here." "Man, we went through some crazy stuff, huh? I honestly didn't think I was gonna make it this time." "But as you can see, I'm alright now." What do you mean you "didn't think you were gonna make it"? There is no way you could have foreseen that giant explosion from the Invincible, which you aren't even aware of yet. Dagger "..." Zidane "Dagger... Is something wrong?" Dagger [Shakes her head] "..." Zidane "Ohhh, okay. You're so happy to see me, you don't know what to say." "I didn't know you loved me so much." These lines are written like all that (forced) melodrama between Zidane and Garnet for the last few chapters never happened, which I am really going to be addressing later. Zidane (Did I do something wrong...?) "Alright, what did I do wrong?" Well you did eff off to Treno like a complete moron before. Dagger [Shakes her head] "..." Zidane (...Maybe she's just tired. A lot had happened since Brahne's death...) (...I'd better cheer her up.) "Hey, let's go check out the town." "It'll be fun. Come on!" And you didn't try to do this back in Alexandria at the beginning of Disk 3 (as I've already addressed), because…? Dagger [Hangs her head] "..." Zidane (...I think she's starting to get annoyed.) (Maybe I should leave her alone.) "I guess you have a lot on your mind right now." "Sorry to bother you." "I'll see you later." Oh heck no, for the past several chapters you were all anguished about not being with Garnet (the same goes for Garnet who I will be getting to in just a moment), and now you are just going to leave and not figure out what is wrong? TALK TO HER, ASK WHAT IS GOING ON, YOUR DEVOTION SUCKS. Do you even remember how you are in love with her? This is why the love story sucks so much, it isn't properly focused on, gets the attention it deserves and it just gets pushed aside for Garnet to drown in a puddle of her own self-centred angst for most of the game. Dagger (Zidane... You're so sweet.) (Thank you.) And yet you aren't even going to try to speak to him and confess your love and are giving him the cold shoulder because of your wangst. Despite all that drama from the coronation a few chapters ago. Nor did you try to invite him to the castle to be with him in person a few chapters ago. This is such forced drama. [Dagger is at the telescope] Oh boy, here we go… Dagger only repeats garbage in her head. Dagger "..." (Alexandria is gone...) (I still can't believe it...) (So many people were killed.) Then how the heck did you, Zidane and the others survive when you were all in the centre most point of that massive explosion? Dagger (The survivors are homeless and destitute.) (How could this have happened...?) (Maybe I shouldn't have listened to Eiko and summoned Alexander...) And do what? Let Bahamut continue to devastate the town? It wasn't even Bahamut or Alexander that caused the massive explosion. Dagger (No. It's not her fault.) (It's my fault! I never should have run away from home!) (I got everyone involved in this: Zidane, Vivi, Steiner...everyone...) (Had I stayed with Mother, maybe I could've stopped her.) Well, screw it, eh. We already went through this: she ordered to have your head cut off, fool! Did you forget that your mother WANTED YOUR EIDOLONS TO USE AS WEAPONS? If you had stayed home, your eidolons would have been extracted and used to destroy things, not that it mattered since you still poisoned Zidane and ran back home like idiot anyways, completely defeating the purpose of running away in the first place, making this dialogue even more pointless and dumb. Also, funny how you claim to care about "getting Zidane involved" but didn't care about that when you abandoned him and he was in Burmecia. Dagger (...It's all my fault.) "..." (I shouldn't have assumed the throne...) WELL, GOOD THING YOU HAVEN'T, RIGHT? Just friggin- and who should sit on the throne, if not you? Why the heck don't you and Zidane clean up the ruins of Alexandria when your "loyal subjects" need you so much? Dagger (I thought I could make amends, but...) (...I've only brought misery to everyone.) (...What am I going to do now?) "..." It's amazing how some of the FF fanbase complains about Cloud and Squall being "emo" when IX gives us scenes like this that show that Dagger takes the cake for most excessively angsty character in the series. Why don't they just play Linkin Park's "I've Become so Numb" during this part while they're at it?
