When you learn everything about Fei and Id, the title hits hard. This is one of Mitsuda's more complex compositions in terms of what it makes you feel and I respect him all the more for it.

At first, I honestly found it kind of comforting, until I‘ve got context of where it plays when I finally got around to experiencing Xenogears

The low drone that plays constantly is very in line with horror movies. Mitsuda really outdid himself with this one

Of all the antagonists in Xenogears, Id is by far the most dangerous. He's an unimpeded psychopath who cares only for the fight.

Id is such an interesting and amazing character. His backstory is one of the most saddest and tragic in the entire story. Definitely one of my favorites.

Such a great antagonist. It‘s also mindblowing to me that such a complex concept was done in a 1998 Title. Takahashi, Soraya Saga and their Team were really ahead of its time

@@boredgoddesstori6635 What makes him such a great character and antagonist?
@BB-te8tcАй бұрын
@brandonstinson4988 he's essentially a long dormant second personality sleeper agent dwelling within the hero, but he's not inherently evil: he was twisted into something unrecognizable at a young age by unimaginable torture. It's a really interesting, dark idea, and the game tells the story of it very effectively.
Also known as “The One torn apart“. Haunting melody!

I've always been fascinated by this song, and by Id as a character. You'd expect a guy like him to have a fittingly bombastic, aggressive theme song, but instead Mitsuda gave us something quiet and lonely. It really speaks to the tragedy at the heart of the character. If you think about it, Id never had a chance. He was created to be a dumping ground for memories of horrific childhood abuse, and then Grahf came along and started actively encouraging his violent impulses. The only life experiences that Id has are of inflicting and receiving pain. He's a boy in a grown man's body, lashing out at a world that's done nothing but hurt him. (Notice how, within Fei's mind, Id only ever appears as a child.) You don't even defeat him in the end. Fei just sits down and talks things out with him, and once Id is convinced that his worldview is wrong, he willingly unifies with Fei. I think that's kind of brilliant -- Id's not just some super strong evil guy for the heroes to triumph over, he's ultimately an abuse victim. The only way he can get better is if he receives kindness and help. I didn't understand any of this when I played the game as a kid, of course, I just thought Id was a bad ass villain with a cool robot. Funny how so many of these oldschool Square characters get more thought-provoking as you age

„Names do not matter… however, if you insist… Id…“
It is one of the tracks playable in the Nortune jukebox, under the option 'A Theme'. This track plays as the battle music against Id in Zeboim, as well as in the immediately prior and subsequent cutscenes. In addition, it plays during the following cutscenes: - Fei tells Citan how Grahf appeared in Lahan Village, and Citan speaks with Cain about the time of the Gospel. - Id appears before Bart and Ramsus in the Aveh desert. - Id raises the Yggdrasil above him before throwing it at Bart. - Citan speaks with Id in Solaris (flashback2). - Fei sees images of other people after being frozen in carbonite. - Miang encourages Lacan to seek the Zohar (flashback). - Citan narrates how Id went in search of the Zohar after breaking through his carbonite encasing. - Inside Fei's head, Id tells Fei that the latter is a fake, subordinate persona. - Fei momentarily accepts being inside Id's head until he's reminded of Elly. - Id shows Fei his memories of Fei's childhood. - Id returns to Fei the memories of the past Contacts. Finally, it plays as the area theme in Nortune after Deus awakens.

@@boredgoddesstori6635 "Th, that Gear! No mistake! It's him! Demon of Elru...!"
The entire song encapsulates in essence what Fei does when his stress reaches its breaking point and he literally "Blacks out". The red outfit, hair and aura are probably the things the ancient people of that great war saw as their homes/countrys were decimated. A tall red gear who looked like a demonic entity. Hence the name they called it " *The Demon of Elru* "
