I think its like a mix of the music industry and beauty standards for women like 'make them smile all the time' 'make them tall' 'make them have long hair' and stuff to do with the industry like 'chase them for photos' and like the pains of a celebrity

This music video has a couple callbacks to her older stuff. The drowning in tears scene is a callback to her first album crybaby. The song as a whole shares the same sentiment as show and tell and strawberry shortcake from her second album k-12. The ending scene also has the same aesthetic down as that album. The heart icons reference things that fans have done/said to or about her over the years. For example, a lot of people called her demonic for her aesthetics and visual effects. Stuff like chase them for a photo and call them a bitch for being human are also talked about in songs like show and tell.

The heart that says "chase them for a photo" is a call back to a story she told in an interview. She told us that she was minding her business waiting for the bus and a group of people just swarmed her and took photos without asking and it made her very uncomfortable

“Say there demonic” is based on how people/haters are saying she is demonic. The song is about self worth and all those video game like buttons are things people want her to be or to do. People are saying she is demonic because of her new portals album look. She is not demonic AT ALL!! People have chased her just for photos, body shamed her, and made her terribly sad.

"say they're demonic" People was calling her like that for her new look, and people was hating her and making fun of her "give them long hair" Melanie Martinez got a hair cut and her hair is short now, and people is hating on her for her haircut, also for "make them tall and skinny" people have always made fun of melanie's height, and people are now calling her fat just because of yes

Yes. All the pop-ups in the music video like, "Say there demonic", and "give them long hair", are all the things her fans and people on the internet call her. Like Doja Cat, she shaved her head and everyone called her demonic, whereas Melanie Martinez comes out with a new album, and a pink "nymph", character and people call her demonic. It is not fair how people treat you especially in the music industry. But, at the end of the day, I have learned there are always going to be people there to tear you down to the day you die. And that's just life. Yes everyone wishes life was cupcakes and rainbows, but it is not. Life at this point is basically like survival and a game. And some people don't want to play that game.

The demonic part I could never understand how people could call Melanie demonic, but the only 2 things demonic about doja is she keeps promoting the 1 eye (illuminati) which is another part of devilish behaviour and her demons songs that give me nightmares for 34 days straight-

I don’t think her song Pluto means real demons, “show me the demons I’m hiding” is a phrase or a metaphor used to express you are hiding deeper issues. She wants to heal from her deeper issues so she says show me the demons I’m hiding. It’s also reminds me of her song void. At least that’s how I interpret it.

The theme of this song appears to be about empowerment and self-worth. The lyrics imply a confidence in one's own body and a refusal to be objectified or reduced to a mere sexual object for someone else's pleasure. The lyrics also suggest that the singer is aware of their worth and is not willing to settle for anything less than they deserve, despite the distractions and games played by others. It may also be a dedication to women who feel like they are sexualized because the have what society sees as a "perfect body" having an hourglass body figure with big breasts and a thin waist. The chorus, in particular, emphasizes one's self-worth and their refusal to be objectified solely for sexual gratification. The line "But I'm more than that, more than that" is repeated multiple times, so is the phrase "you hold me like you're rushing to my thighs, too fast to fast fast too fast", reinforcing the idea that the protagonist is not comfortable with such behavior towards them and will not allow themselves to be just an object for someone else's pleasure. The song's message could be similar to "Cake".

HIGHLY recommend checking out her past projects!!! Make sure to start at the beginning with her "Crybaby" album which has 13 mv for each song! Make sure to watch in order as its necessary to understand the story. Her next album "K-12" comes with a whole film that goes deeper in the story and has all 13 mv from that album in it!! Also check out the EPs she has in between!! Love the video ❤❤❤

The ‘say theyre demonic’ possibly references her enemies or antagonists in her life, that criticise their character (she calls, The Creature) as a demonic or malicious being. The ‘fill their cup’ and ‘take their cup away’ could refer to her record label and/or fans telling her to create music, and then leak it before it releases. (fun fact: ‘TUNNEL VISION’ was one of her first leaked songs, and her overall most popular.) The ‘give them long hair’ and ‘make them tall and skinny’ refers to the community or industry trying to influence her style and how she looks. The ‘make them smile all the time’ maybe refers to people that go around, telling women to smile more. It may also link to the previous paragraph thingy. The ‘give them their flower’ and ‘take them away’ could be how their fans praise them and then instantly trash on them. I could not for the life of me think of a different explanation. The ‘chase them for a photo’ and ‘you made them very upset’ she has talked about previously and they said they don’t like when people tape them without asking, and if she denies them or tells them to stop, she makes them mad. The ‘call them a bitch for being human’ definitely refers to her fanbase criticise her personality, and when she cries after, it refers to her album, song, and character (all of the same title) ‘Crybaby,’ where she talks about her childhood and also the character which she further explains in ‘K-12.’ ‘Drain water’ isn’t in much need of an explanation. The video game element at the end could refer to very many things, but I like to think she is saying that it doesn’t matter, and our reality is temporary and it’ll be over before we know.

The buttons meaning are what Melanie’s fans do to her like “say their demonic” Because lots of fans thought she became demonic/satanic but she isn’t and “give them long hair” because fans want her hair to be longer since she cut her hair into a mullet you were right on that part. “Make them tall and skinny” it’s meaning is because her fans realized Melanie gained weight after her K-12 era (or back in 2019) So fans want her body to look tall skinny. “Chase them for a photo” obviously celebrities experience them getting chased for a pic. “Call them a b*tch for being human” I don’t really know what this means but I think that it means is because sometimes humans are just too cruel and too obsessed to celebrities and telling fans that celebrities are human too. And the end is actually a fan girl controlling Melanie in the video game like what most fans do. And I don’t know what the other buttons mean.

the real meaning behind most of the heat buttons are how people judge her like 'day theyre demonic' is how many people hate on her new style and era like while the tunnel vision video was live i was in the live and saw someone say ' she sold her soul' which she never did,, and you got the fill the cup right and the crying part isnt a correlation to crybaby its to show how everyone expects her to be perfect when she human too then she drowns the place by crying and the water going away is like having to vent your feelings and the 'give them flowers' shows how melanie always needs to act like shes perfect and has to always except a fans request even if its compeletely ridiculous then the "call her a bitch for bieng human' is to show that she has feelings too, shes not a robot. i think i covered all the important points but melanie has very nice song meanings
@secretdowi9766
@secretdowi9766 11 ай бұрын
oo and the 'give them long hair' was after she got hate because she cut her hair shorter and people were like i wish she never cut it and the 'make them tall and skinny' refers to how alot of people keep judging her for bieng overweight (which she isnt)

I think the one thing I appreciate the most about her videos is the choreography, it's not something that is too common in the industry nowadays. I feel it really helps add to the visuals and with making the lead person more of a focus point, rather than just planting them in the center.

What I think the video represented was how most of her fans are really young and try and control Melanie like she isn’t human. The ending part where she was moving her arms and the dancers moved accordingly represents her taking control of that

all of the hearts used in the mv are things fans want/point out, Make them smile all the time- many people say that her music is depressing, and really dark. Alot of 'fans' hate on her for her music being dark Say their demonic- Alot of 'fans' say shes worshipping satan, etc etc, when shes never said that publicly. Last time she spoke abt her religon was a while back, (2015?) and said she was christan. Give them long hair- When she cut her hair, around late 2022, when the portals era was starting. people were throwing around insults, saying she looked like she was bald. Fill their cup- you already went over this, and understood it pretty well. People just wanted more music from her Take their cup away- She takes about 2-4 year breaks in between each album, so 'fans' kept dming and commenting "When is the next album out?" And leaking her music to get more from her. So she "took away" songs that 'fans' leaked. Chase them for a photo- Pretty self explanatory, she gets chased by fans and paparazzi for photos, and shes pretty senstive to that. Call them a bitch for being human- Again, pretty self explanatory. Thats all of them I can think of..

If you really want to dive into the Melanie Martinez universe I recommend starting with the video for “Cry Baby”. It’s literally the birth of this trilogy. There’s not much going on editing-wise but other cool videos in this era are “Pacify Her” and “Mrs. Potato Head”. Next era is the K-12 where the song are about her school life journey. Literally kindergarten-12th grade. There’s not many standout videos since they are all part of a movie but “Teachers Pet” and “Orange juice” are great. At the end of the movie Melanie (Crybaby) goes through a portal where she “dies”. And that pieces with the videos you already saw in which she reincarnates into this creature.

I feel like there's so many meanings to this song. Like the "give them long hair" "say they're demonic" and "chase them for a photo" is about her toxic fans, but it can also be about what its like to be manipulated and objectified as a woman. For example "fill their cup" and "take the cup away" reminds me of being treated well then suddenly not for no reason at all, which is a lot like how toxic relationships are. It goes the same with the flowers part

As a big Melanie fan, it’s always so fun to listen to a song of hers and then do the research on what it’s about. I am still working on portals but the more you listen to her lyrics, you can can tell that Tunnel Vision is almost (trying to put this in Melanie’s perspective) saying like, I’m not a doll - “but I’m more than that more than that”, which is a reference to Show and Tell (old song, old album) and all the things the player selected, is what her fans (not all, just toxic ones, the Mel fans are so sweet) have done to her, “make them smile all the time” is like her fans saying she should smile more, “call them demonic” is because she was called that for being herself and feeling comfortable in her own skin. And you’re totally correct about the pressure part because in the video she’s crying so much it’s like a pool and sometimes when your under so much pressure, you get so anxious, frustrated, and upset that you start crying from it. I love how you’re so kind about her videos because she usually gets called weird but you’re so honest and that’s why I always enjoy your videos. I hoped this helped a little bit cause I know that her storyline is confusing if you’re just now starting but if you do end up watching her other videos, start with her crybaby album and then go into k-12, it’ll help make more sense. P.S.- k-12 has a film and also try to watch her interviews, it also helps understand her songs

What she means by say shes demonic is that before her new album her music was very different and when she came out with this album people said she was weird and they like the old melanie and not the new melanie so the started calling her things like demonic so she included that in her music video the main idea of the music video is that when a music artist gets to much demand and people call her boring for not coming out with something new and when she does come out with something new they hate her for it and why cant they just be happy with her hard work trying to keep up with the demands to keep her fans happy

I love the meaning and references this clip has💜 All the things that pop up on the screen are like things that obsessed fans do with them, like chasing for a photo, which has already happened. In their song "Show & Tell", they also talks about a similar situation. At the end "Game Over" appears and a girl playing the game, the environment has a delicate and pink aesthetic, just like the aesthetic of the K-12 album, probably meaning how some of their fans still haven't gotten over the K-12 era and still want Melanie to have that aesthetic and try to control them like in a video game. 🥹

I'll explain when it did say "their demonic" that was from the fans when this new era was made and "make them tall and skinny" that was about the fans saying that Melanie looks fat and "make them smile all the time was about" fans saying she doesn't smile that often now "give her long hair" is about that she got a pixie haircut a while ago and people were hating on her on that and "chase them for a photo" is about fans just randomly doing a picture without asking (this happened a while back) then "you made them upset" is about when 🍇 accusations were put up (it wasn't real) "call them a 🐩 for being human" was when she was standing up to her self And in the cast list it is said that the person in the end is called Fangirl which is a just her fans Some references to different eras: K12 :hairstyle from the "give her long hair" Crybaby:her crying and swimming (Crybaby mv) That's all -#1 Melanie Martinez Fan💘💘

As much as I love you reacting to Melanie's MVs, It takes a lot of time for the vfx to happen so she probably won't come out with another one for 2-3 months. (She has a lot of them recorded already though!) Could you react to Ariana Grande's 4th album Sweetener? The visuals are CRAZY (Not Melanie's level 😂) but it goes from her upside down and then on the Earth and it's just so amazing and the songs are great! Breathin', God is a woman and No tears left to cry ❤

the ending kind of references her previous album, k-12. it was kind of that pink whimsical theme and I think this video was resembling her fans liking her past album/era better. and then calling her new era 'demonic' and such

the "Say your demonic" was a refrence to when a lot of people from different religons would say shes demonic for playing a character inside her new album "Portals". A lot of these people would say she is demonic for one of the starts of her tours when there was a candle and she said "I have a secret..part of me is still trying to become a angel." or they would just say that because they didn't like her.

I kinda agree and what you said about it maybe it being of the music industry but the first time I heard it, I thought she was talking about a guy who was obsessed with her and wanted her in THAT way. (not romantically) but like at the end she says "show me how far obsession goes. could've been more now we'll never know" but it could be maybe a fan got in touch with her and wanted more and then adding that with the music industry wanting her to be a certain way, dressing a certain way, looking a certain way, etc. It kinda gives me 'show and tell' vibes and maybe cake or play date or even high school sweethearts in a way. but that's just me haha

"Tunnel Vision" by Melanie Martinez is a song that delves into themes of self-empowerment, manipulation, and the dangers of being consumed by superficial desires. The lyrics paint a vivid picture of a protagonist who is aware of their own allure and the power they hold over others. The song opens with the invitation to follow the tunnel into the portal, symbolizing a journey into the depths of one's desires and the consequences that may come with it. In the first verse, Melanie Martinez showcases her ability to captivate and manipulate those around her. She acknowledges that people are drawn to her, but she sets clear boundaries, asserting that she is not just anyone to be taken advantage of. The haze and hypnotic state described in the lyrics represent the allure and fascination she holds over others. However, she urges them to stop searching for something that they cannot possess. The pre-chorus highlights the protagonist's awareness of the superficiality of others' desires. She compares herself to a cherry and a pie, suggesting that people often believe the surface-level attraction will be more satisfying than the deeper connection. However, she sees through their intentions and recognizes that their rush to possess her is ultimately their downfall. The chorus emphasizes the protagonist's frustration with being objectified and underestimated. She rejects the notion of being reduced to mere honeysuckle and fresh meat, asserting that she is more than just a physical object of desire. The line "playing house to distract me" suggests that others may try to manipulate her by pretending to be something they are not, but she sees through their facade. She knows what they are truly after and refuses to be deceived. In the second verse, the protagonist exposes the futile attempts of others to win her over. She sees through their manipulative tactics and revels in their failures. The line "I make them tumble down the hill they climbed" signifies her ability to bring them down from their pedestal and expose their true intentions. She refuses to be swayed by their empty promises and sees their attempts to win her over as nothing more than a failed trick. The song concludes with the outro, where the protagonist asserts her worth and independence. She would rather die than be reduced to a mere object of someone's obsession. The line "show me how far obsession goes, could've been more, now we'll never know" suggests that she is uninterested in being someone's fleeting infatuation and desires a deeper connection that goes beyond superficial desires. Overall, "Tunnel Vision" by Melanie Martinez is a powerful anthem of self-empowerment and a warning against being consumed by shallow desires. It encourages listeners to recognize their own worth and not settle for being objectified or manipulated by others.

The hearts are fans decisions and the squares are consequences from the fans actions. The fans are the ones playing the “video game” and choosing what Melanie does.
