The building in this game is so simple yet complex. Can't wait for them to add more and just keep finding out what else we can do. I'm about 80 hours in and have around a 1500 log mansion

shame the amount of bugs in the game make me give up on it whenever i decide to get involved in building. Died multiple times in one hit to a log not even falling on me but bouncing ever so slightly on the ground next to me lmao.

@@Yue_Jin I've never died to logs falling, that only usually does a small amount of damage. I've noticed the gold armor greatly reduces log damage too, making me think logs are demons.

@@justinhaynes917 yeah the shoveling is a bit disappointing. But as it is right now it isn't just visual, I've used it to place logs you can't normally place. So hopefully they will add it, but I honestly doubt it.

this game has the most fun "realistic" building I've seen in a game, usually when games go for a more realistic take on base building its tedious or just not fun to do, but this game makes it really fun. There's some finicky bits that sour the experience, but hopefully with time these things will be patched out.

Both 1/2 logs and 3/4 logs can be used for the braces, or "struts" as they're called here. I'm not sure if there's a difference between actual support, but there is a visual difference.

I am honestly just commenting and subscribing to make sure that the algorythim promotes you more! This is the best/most useful video I have seen when it comes to building in this game. I can't express how much this has changed the game for me, I got it a month ago and had been doing everything I can to avoid the building because all I could make is a freaking minecraft looking log cabin 😂 now I am actually making a really nice multilevel house on a river with a lake with a few stone and wood bridges and a sitting area at the waterfall... for reasons.

i get these are all cool looking but in the case you do build a floating base and clear out 'excess" support for a better look whats stopping a cannibal from attack one of the only 4 supports and toppling it all down i feel like a lot of these cool looking builds kinda go against what building in the forest is about which is to build something to be able to take an attack on the base

What about making field traps that will stay working perpetually? Players could knock over sharpened sticks but not npc, meaning you take a half log block, place it in a field, take 4 sharp sticks and aim it at the center of the log, and leave it alone for cannibals to wander and jump on it... Now rinse and repeat by putting this everywhere and when the NPC's AI makes them want to hop over it, they outright take hit from 4 sticks and die.

The patch notes mention talk about how the game assesses a building / structure as a sort of cascading reference call. I would LOVE to see modders get into the game files and see if we can get "blueprints" of built structures in games exported. Wishful thinking but hey! Early access! Awesome tips! I'll deff be employing some of these in the future. Cheers!

This is wild! I love the new building system. It's so much more intuitive! This is a simple matter of just learning the mechanics. I don't understand why the community on Steam is so pissed. It's so confusing. We have more freedom than ever to build how we want to. How is this a bad thing? It's no different really than people not understanding how the AI works. They say the AI sucks and is too harsh, but what a lot of people don't realise is that you don't have to go hardcore slayer. Going full on Judge Dread is a bad approach and a lot of players make that mistake. Don't rush it. Don't create problems that can be easily avoided. This is a complex game, just a lot of players are too used to run and gun kind of mentality in survival games.

I do hope you understand that the final tip you mentioned isn't "Iffy" that's real world architecture that many have used over the years. Heck you see that kind of build style in Europe on many old buildings. Though they don't really go a 3rd out, but it's quite doable.

@@Triforcefilms I don't even know why reloading like that is a feature! same with for roofing/floors you can cut a log long half. but the dude does it automatically every time you place it. Like how simple do we need games to be. solution for you. make firewood of the wood laying around. I wish games would let us use our brains. example you can make diagonally walls from day 1 just place the wood pole of center from the other pole. it is that simple. still roofing is kind of fucked that way so not fully implemented yet.
