If you're on a server with friends, I'd suggest making tree houses and a bed in them around the "most needed" items so that they can be safe. I'm loving the game but having a hard time wanting to help every new person to my server with all the items, so I've been taking the time to make it easier for them. That includes making a zip line build across the mountains to easily access the other side of the mountain, to get the katana, golden armor & finish the game so you can just focus on surviving. this isn't for everyone, maybe those who are just tired of walking everywhere lol

My #1 tip is to play and finish The Forest. Too many people jumping on this game and ragging on it due to its early access, whereby if they had any idea of the original, they would already know all the nuances, building quirks, re-spawning (not glitches) items and how the devs dropped their updates. But no they start bagging this game for whatever unjustified reason. My 2 cents.

I'm not sure if you or anyone else had covered this one, putting a campfire under your drying racks, MASSIVELY speeds up the drying time. Like unbelievably fast. It does depend on where you place the fire as to which/how many meat dry at the same time! So much faster!!

The book also has a uncapped speed mechanic (same with the inventory), made a video on the subreddit to show it. So you can open the book and slide down a slope as fast or faster then the sled.

One thing I've been abusing is use logs to damn a shallow river and then chop down trees upstream aiming them to fall into the water and then just manually toss any that get stuck but this works surprisingly well, just build near the damn and you can have kalvin bring the logs from the river to your base. Super fast

Regarding feathers, building a couple of birdhouses will farm massive amounts of them, so you won't need to manually hunt for them anymore.

That or build several skull totems, wait for the little birds to land, then slingshot em. Personally, I prefer hunting seagulls since one seagull can get you up to 10 feathers per seagull. The birdhouse is my least favorite since you need to wait til it fills up and there’s only 5 at a time. That means two birdhouses per seagull, while seagulls are so easy to hunt. But to each their own

If this hasn't already been addressed, be careful when telling Kelvin to get logs, clear the area, or any other action that involves chopping town trees. If you are building a tree fort system he will cut down the trees your fort is on. Hopefully this gets addressed sooner rather than later.

If you play with friends...if one of you kills anything skinable you all can skin if you do it at same time. Usefull for caves(skining mutants)

No matter where you build, the game will spawn 4 to 6 cannibals close to you. I'm building on top of the mountain, and as I go down to grab some logs, when I come back, there they are, waiting for me. Sometimes they spawn so high, on a steep slope, they can't even move! Mutants and demons are much more rare. In 40 days, they spawned 3 times. For those wondering, I've chained 6 zipline ropes all the way up the mountain, with logs placed accordingly so that the ones I send up don't roll back down. Took about 10 hours to figure it out. But it was worth it. Kelvin is chopping, I'm carrying/sending up. Gonna make a base, and then a glider platform. Carry up like 10 or 20 gliders so that I can always have them ready. As the game updates, I'll never have to run around to check what's new, I'll fly there!

5:28 whenever you're at your base either actively building with stocked logs or contemplating your next move, i suggest building around 5 stick holders at your base and tell kevin to fill them. it's slow, but it's one thing he can do during downtime. i never thought i used as many sticks as i do, so fully stocked holders are really convenient

Seems the GPS Locators respawn on reloads. I know of 1 that does. The guy who is hanging on a rope that you have to cut. I keep going back and his body is on the floor with a locator to loot. Judging by how they're filling up the box, I'd guess you can carry 10 max. Hope this helps. 👍

Log holders are also great in rivers. Chuck the logs in the river and the holder will catch it. Ohhhh that spike trick is exactly what I need. Thanks! I think the GPS thing is a glitch too. Can't get it to switch.

The trick with Kelvin is to be standing next to the task that you want him to complete. For example if you place blueprints down and stand next to them, ask Kelvin to build -> finish structure and he will build it, chopping trees if necessary. I guess you have to be standing next to it so he doesn't try and build another blueprint you may have placed on the other side of the island. I like that he can pick up the radio, I wonder what else he can do while walking around the map

It also seems like he defaults to doing the last thing you told him to do after he finishes and rests. I set that bastard to clear 5 meters, wayyy across the river from my tree house. He comes back, sits in my chair the prick, then I hear chopping, get a lag spike, and hear wood falling. He was so proud

The stick traps can clip through stuff. I lined mine up inside defensive walls. Place the stick close to the wall and axe them with the arrow pointing towards the wall. Can still place stones, but since they're inside the wall, enemies have to break through the wall first before they could damage them. At least it seems that way to me, I haven't had any spike traps destroyed after I started placing them inside like that... Yet...

Same for me, i have a Shelve on the other Side of the Wall. It seems like they fixed the Hitbox of Enemys going through Walls. Armsys destroyed everything in a 2 Meter Radius infront of them. The new Mutants in Sons do barely any Structure Damage.

AMAZING TIP FOR MAKING BRIDGES!! You can tie rope on the side of a wooden wall and and connect it to another wall, and then you can use half logs and make a rope bridge:) (make sure that the walls are straight from each other if you want the bridge to be straight and not curvy)

I found out, similar to tip 10. Logs will deposit into holders even if they are still on the zipline. Meaning you can run a hallway of log holders, with a zipline reaching just over the holders and they will automatically deposit in order. I've managed to line up 6 holders in a row and deposit in all of them

you actually dont need a zipline to put logs into the log holder, any falling logs above the holder will automatically be deposited. this means you could make a pit to throw logs in or even make a system to send logs flying over a line of holders to potentially hold a lot more.

I built a huge 3 story house, I built log storage on each floor and simply zip lined all my logs to the exact floor I was building on

Some "annoyance" tips: *Most, if not all ponds and lakes simply don't have fish at all and Kelvin is unable to "Get fish." It seems Kelvin gets his fish from the running rivers/streams. Placing fish traps in ponds or lakes do not yield results and sometimes you can't even place them at all. *There are several "deadzones" in the map, mostly on the opposite end of the map where there are only a few GPS pings. These deadzones have 0 wildlife even when the wildlife setting is set to high. So before picking an isolated spot on the opposite side of the map, scout for wildlife first.

That may be limited to really small ponds because I constantly get fish from Kelvin and Virginia from the pond near my base. He did get stuck once but unloading the part he was at fixed him.

Best way to make a map marker is the place a tarp tent down, it makes a house marker on the gps map, the bed does not do this only the tarp tent, but it makes it easier to mark things if you just throw down a 1 stick 1 tarp tent and the marker will be on the map unless you destroy it.

That's how Kelvin actually works. I've noticed that sometimes the logs just lay above the log holder. It seems like Kelvin is just throwing it into the log holder. But a neat little extra for players. Looking forward to seeing a log holder system where you just use one zip line to fill up a bunch of log holders.

I got a cool one for server players. Make sure you have shelves but fill your inv with you want to max, save at bed and put all your items on the shelves, disconnect from game then reload and boom you have duplicated items on shelf and in inventory.

You can kill birds by throwing logs Throwing logs near a storage will also sort them in it Adding stones to a fire makes it burn longer but U can Upgrade it further by adding logparts U can glich through walls doors ect with placing sticks wich let you beat the whole game with only a stick

There is actually 3 log duping glitch's but the third can only be done by players joining another's world, you stack 4 quarter logs vertical on top of each other then while holding the desired log you want 1/4, 1/2, 3/4 or full you aim the center of your screen at the intersection of where the bottom and second 1/4 log meet, you should see a white circle show up at the base and then just left click, it helps to crouch so you don't take damage from logs hitting your head

I found a dupe glitch on accident. I made a log fence and a monster damaged one of the logs but didn't knock it over, it's just bent a bit from the damage. When i place another log next to it i keep the log in holding and one drops on the ground. Lets me just mash left quick and spawn a mountain of logs haha

Kelvin may be terrible at pathing but he can do stuff you can't do. Like ice fishing and easily finding rocks in the winter time. If you are on a lake that has fish, ask him to grab some for you and he will. Feel like locking your door? Put a target on it.

Idk if it was in the other video, but as far as feathers go, you can also stand by one of the broken gold carts and little birds will just constantly land there as you slaughter them. Got like 100 feathers in less than 5 mins

I accidentally found a log dupe glitch with Kelvin. I was building a bridge, I built the supports and started placing the planks on top, Kelvin got stuck inside the box of the bridge and was trying to pick up logs, he'd pick one up and it would dupe it instead of just picking it up

for the log duping, my mates and i use the log holders: fill the log holders, save and reload the game, pick 2 logs up from anywhere so they are on your shoulder, go up to the full log holder and mash 'e' logs spawn everywhere hahaha. after a while logs stop spawning, just save and reload game and then repeat.

The radio will disapear not long after you walk away from where you tell him to pick it up. Have never got a radio back to my base. After this last update kelvin will NO LONGER cut down your tree house, odd thing is enemies cannot do it anymore as well. So, its the best base you can build but they removed the support trick so your stuck with a SMALL building now unless you put in ground supports and them WILL get taken out!

I chopped down a lot of trees not far from where I needed Melvin to place them in the log holder and my mans went to the other side of the island to get the logs. But my favorite from Melvin was when I told him to get logs and bring here, where I had a zip line to send to my main build area, he was running down to get the ones sent to bring back to that spot. I had 25 - 30 trees down behind me there. Smdh. Hoping for a Melvin fix soon LOL

The new log source glitch is you place a tree house blueprint, then hit it with an axe right at a corner. But it has to hit where you would hit the end of the log, like the cut face of it. It can be tricky to figure out exactly where to hit, but you will know you are doing it right if it sounds like you hit wood. Then after 2 hits a corner of the house will fall off as if it were already built. Spraying out some logs and a rope. Pro tip. Avoid the axe combo swing. As this can easily make you miss the sweet spot on the second swing. Ruining that attempt.

- You can stunlock almost any regular human-sized foe by hitting them consistently with a torch. - The meat you store on a drying rack will NEVER rot for as long as you keep it there. Allthough it will look rotten after some time, the meat is still edible without any side effects or degraded effectiveness. - If you are playing with your friends (or foes, who knows :D) and you find a skinnable creature (mutant or animal), everyone will be able to skin it of you perform the skinning action vaguely at the same time. If only you skin the creature, it will be unskinnable for others after a few seconds. Make sure that everyone skins the creature while the skinning animation of the first player is not yet completed.

so my friend found a log duplicating bug. a villager broke our fence and he went to replace the fence by adding a new log that he sticks straight up. every time he placed a log in its snapped location it would duplicate the log. it didnt work for me but it worked for him. i think it was because the fence next to where he was placing the log was damaged. the log would fall down when placed for both of us but only his would duplicate. I was host of the server if that made a difference.

Hosts can do it. We use this bug, have to have it on a slope and get it just right to make it work. It took a bit to get it down and even then it doesn’t always work.

you can force this with an L shaped standing frame. place one on the ground, place a pilar on one end and just act like you're adding a defensive wall and you have it - but I can't seem to dupe as a host, only on someone else's server. I don't think the log exploits work anymore, though they are still semi functional. When a tree is cut, if it doesn't have a clear falling path it seems to duplicate the logs that didn't have an easy landing? This has worked for me to just get a few extra logs when logging.

After days of playing without the hotkeys I got used to it but having them now is awesome. My gf plays strictly with a controller, so there's no hotkeys for her sadly. I put together a quick arduino micro button box with some old arcade buttons mapped to the keyboard hotbar keys and she's happy.
