Yea the whole story about "we had an idea we couldn't implement 15 years ago" But fusion had that similar stalking style, there's been loads of games where you're hiding, running. I think they had an idea, dropped it and then when Metroid released Other M, Space Fed and they tanked the idea was just dropped and they didn't bother. Same reason Star Fox has been sat on again. Don't really believe that it's tech that held it back, look at all the Nintendo games in that period that really pushed the envelope, it comes down to risk - reward no more no less.

@@sharp7j I wouldn't say that's true! I think it's the determinism of Into the Breach that gives the gameplay the feeling of solving a puzzle. Whereas typically in a turn based strategy game you can't figure out a "correct move", you can only come up with good moves because you're not certain how the enemies will respond. ItB I think feels like a puzzle game because there are a relatively small numbee of possible moves, and frequently there is a "correct" set of moves which is the only way to take no damage/keep all the goals of the round alive

Agreed. I'm trying to imagine it, really hard. I think the entire thing would just take place on a battlefield with absolutely no context of who you are, who you're fighting, or what you're doing. Of course, you could make the arguement that that's STILL telling a message of its own, perhaps that leaders sometimes put blinds on their soldiers to just get the job done and not look into the corrupt motivations behind it all. War is inherently political, and any usage of war in a story is automatically admitting some form of position on or commentary about it whether you want to or not. It'd be like trying to make a fitness game without any kind of exercise, or a fire that isn't hot. I think Jim Sterling's talked about this subject before. It's a very funny and very interesting topic.
