It seems like a different game compared to both Advance Wars and Fire Emblem, of course you can control different troops and vehicles and you have to use strategy, but it is more in real time. But sucks that Battalion Wars 2 and Advance Wars Days of Ruin were the last games of the franchise. They almost revived the first two games but the Ukraine war is going and the game can cause controversy haha.

Friendly reminder that Roy debuted in this game. In all regions. He was going to appear in a Game Boy Advance Fire Emblem game, but it wasn’t done yet by the time Melee was, so he was added as a surprise. So…Roy fits in the grey area of “is from Smash Bros. but also isn’t”, like Giga Bowser.

This was a brilliant strategy on Sakurai and Nintendo's part. As a 10 year old, I ended up buying Path of Radiance at Gamestop simply because I liked playing Marth in Melee. I knew nothing about the franchise or gameplay. Ended up falling in love with it and buying almost every subsequent FE game released in NA.

@@astupidphase Yup that's correct, unless I'm mistaken though both Marth and Roy's games were not localized outside of Japan at the time. So Path of Radiance and GBA Blazing Blade were the first games I played :)

@@berryrazy3185 Very much true, FE 1 through 6 were never localized, Fire Emblem the Blazing Blade (or as America just had it as Fire Emblem (I played an emulator)) was the first one to be localized, and fitting enough for GBA, then came Sacred Stones (my first FE game.) Next was Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn soon after, then remake of Shadow dragon (FE1) with New Mystery of the Emblem, series disappeared for a while, 3DS comes with Awakening (the revival of the series), Fates, remake of Gaiden, Shadows of Valentia, (only game that DOESN'T have Anna, a series universal character), and now Engage, so out of multiple titles, we still don't have Genealogy of the Holy War, Tharcia 776, and Binding Blade localized. I could be missing one easily (since I'm only going off what I do know from Engage.)

The theme song for the introduction of Fire Emblem in America/Europe. It’s just called “Fire Emblem” since the games weren’t localized yet. In fact, one Game Boy Advance game was still in development and was going to star Roy, which is why he was included in this game as promotion. Besides, Nintendo figured nobody would understand where this theme came from since…again, the series was a Japan-exclusive for a while until the first GBA title (I think…)

Never unlocked Marth or Roy as a kid because not only did I not know he existed, I also didn’t know I could unlock any other characters besides Puff. Plus I didn’t have a memory card at the time. But I remember accidentally triggering this song when booting up Temple because it was my favorite stage in the game. I was so confused but so excited because this melted my little 4 year old brain it was so cool. And this is still my favorite remix of the song to this day because of that bass line and those cool electronic echoes in the background.

My first encounter with Marth was a shock, I was just playing a battle against a random fighter in Multiplayer when Marth, my first unlocked character showed up. I didn't understand a word he was saying, but his theme song was sick. Not to mention he was an entirely new character, and I beat him. Loved this music, and as everyone else in the west didn't knew anything about Fire Emblem. Then 1-2 years later my young brother had an opportunity to get a new game for his GBA. We were wandering in front of the GBA shelf looking for a game to pick. Then I saw a game called "Fire Emblem" with "Roy" on the cover. I said to my brother: "Look at this game, this is where Marth and Roy comes from! Sure Roy looked a bit different from Melee, and was called "Eliwwod" but whatever the game looked interesting. The rest was history. To this day Fire Emblem (FE7) is one of my all time favourite game, and after a break in the serie from FE7 to Shadow Dragon I keep them to this day. So thanks to Smash Melee for introducing this great series to the west 🥰

I still remember when I unlocked Marth and Roy. I was only 4 years old, barely getting into gaming. I was terrible at this game, but I was playing one day in me and my brothers room. I don’t know what I was doing in terms of the game, but all of a sudden, I see that “A New Challenger Approaches” and I see this blue haired sword fighter with this tune playing in the back. By some chance, I defeated him, and now I had unlocked Marth. I tried him out and soon, I unlocked Roy not long after. To my memory, this was my first experience with unlocking something within a game, and it always stuck with me.

Oddly enough, this as an american this wasnt my first rodeo with Fire Emblem. My dad knew i wanted a gameboy and i told him i wanted pokemon as well for my birthday or xmas or whatever, the thing was he got me a GBA but either forgot or couldnt find pokemon, ended up getting me Fire Emblem: Sacred Stones. Even though its a bit more forgiving than FE7, its def still one of my all time favourite games that i have on an emulator for my phone along FE7. One thing i do miss is when you would rank up your units was it felt like a huge deal because of how awesome the sprites were for Gameboy games. Ephraim and Eirika were my first dealings with Fire Emblem and ironically i had no idea marth and roy were a part of the series until much later (adulthood).
