Odin is prophesied to die at the hands of Fenrir, so he captures and cages Fenrir - which in turn results in Fenrir developing a grudge against Odin. Baldr dies only when the denizens of Asgard are testing his newfound immortality, which Frigg bestowed upon him after learning he was fated to die. The prophecy that describes Loki as the traitor is what drives Asgard's distrust of Loki, which - combined with Fenrirs captivity, ultimately drives Loki to betray them. There are a lot of parallels between Zeus and Odin in this universe. The most obvious being the FEAR. Zeus was overwhelmed by Fear from Pandora's box. This lead to him becoming a tyrant, attacking Kratos and lead to the destruction of Olympus. Meanwhile, Odin has had the prophecy of Ragnarok hanging over him for centuries. He has become obsessed with avoiding it and is now willing to do anything to have even the slightest change of changing his fate and that of Asgard. I can kind of sympathise with Odin. I’ve got a feeling that when we meet Odin, Thor and maybe some other Aesir gods in the sequel, they won’t be exactly as Mimir described them. Although Mimir is wise, I think he’s biased in his tales, so it would be interesting to see the gods he describes in a different light in the next game.

I actually agree.It would give a lot more depth to the story, Because both sides are not completely good or evil. Odin could be portrayed as man out protect his people and his kingdom but ultimately driven mad by fear and paranoia. It also would be a little more accurate to the source material

Mimir in mythology is a jotunn. He also was disgusted by the thought of a child killing their parent. Odin is an Aesir, which as jotunn Mimir hates, Odin is also the son a giantess who was Mimir's sister. If what think happened Mimir feeding Kratos lies so that he kills Odin makes sense
@MasteringJohn4 жыл бұрын
Probably not, but I would enjoy if they went in that direction. A good way to reinforce this would be if the Jotunns had some skeletons in their closet as well, which would at least partially justify the Aesir's antipathy towards them. Doesn't mean Odin has to be a good guy, but Odin the Ruthlessly Practical sounds more interesting to me than Odin the Ridiculously Evil For Lolz.

He knew Kratos was a god, or atleast a mortal from another land, but he didn't know Kratos' full extent, he only knew Kratos was from Greece when Kratos called out to Athena during the boat ride back to his home, and he only knew Kratos was Zeus' son/the Ghost of Sparta when Kratos encounters an illusion of Zeus in Helheim and when he explicitly told Mimir that Zeus is his father. ("I finally get it now, I'm dangling from the hips of the bloody Ghost of Sparta!"). Mimir is only the smartest in the Norse nine realms, he only knows about other lands and their gods and legends through Tyr.

Odin is not only evil but also insecure and jealous as hell, considering his marriage to Freya was a pact for peace. He not only did use her and learn her ways and magic and in the process, know her weaknesses too, but he also took her warrior spirit by ripping out her wings. And then, he locked her out in Midgard only. Doing all that to the Vanir goddess, the leader of the Valkyries itself and the Queen of the 9 realms, Odin really is a very vicious King. On top of that, he's the Allfather. And that's only what he's done to his wife. His torture of Mimir and him sending for Faye, and later Kratos and Atreus too. Deal with that kinda power, damn!

Kratos' rejection of the idea of fate is something that he has every reason to believe, having killed the Sisters of Fate himself and changed his destiny...but I recall that it was _Gaia_ who gave him that idea, and encouraged him to always refuse to give in during his second big journey. It actually feels a bit touching that, despite betraying Kratos in the end, Gaia taught Kratos something important, that he took to heart, and is now teaching his son. As awful as Kratos himself and the others he encountered in his original adventures were, when you think about, Kratos still learned some things from both his experiences and the advice of others, and now is applying and teaching those things. It's even more moving considering most of them were his _family_

44:30 So, the actual myth, as told by one of the two books (poetic Edda and the other I can’t remember). Yes, the hammer was stolen, the giant wanted Freya’s hand in marriage, but the Aesir all tried to figure out how to get the hammer back without giving up Freya. And oddly enough, the idea wasn’t Loki’s, it was Heimdall’s. Thor dressed up as Freya, Loki shifting into one of Freya’s maidens (I could be mistaken here), and they set off. The giants had a party and the giant in question was like “Hey Freya, wanna see Thor’s hammer?!” Which was stupid cause as soon as Thor accepted and was given his weapon back, he proceeded to kill all the giants at the party.

It is said that Brok and Sindri, to atone for Mollnir and Thors rampage across the realms and all the people he slaughtered with it, tried to make a new weapon on par with Mollnir. But as their patheon was declining as less and less people believed in them, they had to wait to get enough power to forge it. Together, like with Mollnir. They decided it to be a Hammer again so that everyone who gazes upon it may remember their folly and their shame and they decided to make it the total opposite of Mollnir. Mollnir destroyed everything in its path and so this new weapon they willed, shall repair everything it touched, even flesh. Without adornments and fancy, a HAMMER like made from purest gold, to be wielded not by Aesir or Vaneir but the humans they saw so much potential in. But their powers were not enough, in the most crucial moment Brok and Sindri were gone like fog in the wind, leaving the HAMMER without a name. ... But the hands of fate can't be denied and as time passed it fell towards Midgard. It was found by a man who used it for many a year, till it was time to pass on the hammer and the profession to his son, Fix-It-Felix, Jr.

I bet we will meet him in Asgard, sitting in his Throne, wielding his mighty spear Gungir, only then to enthusiastically greet Kratos and Atreus like:" I am the Allfather, welcome to my Kingdom, you might have heard about me a lot." Atreus' responds by saying:" Not a lot of good things, we heard you were Evil" Odin answers:"Good and Evil are subjective." "One would say that I am an evil tyrant, but if you would look at the bigger picture, I can be said to be a Hero, trying to save his own and the other Realm's future from extinction". Kratos, annoyed by Odin's attempt to whitewash himself, he threatens him: "Stop trying to deceive us, we know what you truly want." A fight begins Yes, my dialogue needs some polishing, but I do think that Odin will try to deceive Kratos and Atreus.

According to the lore book, Odin has just been spying on Kratos and Atreus since their return from Jotunheim, instead of immediately sending Thor to kill them. And we know from the lost pages that Odin already knew about Kratos and Atreus, even if he didn't know Kratos was in fact the Ghost of Sparta and not a giant. And Mimir tells us that Ragnarok is happening centuries earlier than anyone predicted. "Even if Odin can't prevent Ragnarok, he hopes to learn enough details to influence the outcome." "A battle fought on his timetable is one he better stands to win." Given what we already know about him, did Odin deliberately send Baldur to his death, knowing it would start Ragnarok early?

@@AngelMartinez-hv6fj You make a very interesting point. After all, Kratos is carrying the Blades of Chaos, not the Blades of Exile. Maybe it's just because its more poetic that they're the same blades that killed his first family, or maybe it's Santa Monica's idea of a clue. Odin would control everything if he could, but Chaos disrupts order. As much as I like the idea of Odin being this sadistic schemer, there's always the possibility that he's really just pissing his pants in Asgard right now. Go ahead, flip that coin.
