About Video Game Sophistry:
Video Game Sophistry is an opportunity to celebrate the creators and the artistry found in Video Games. I believe that Games are the most effective medium from experiencing another world, and another way to live. Expect to see a series of videos showcasing the narratives hidden in every game, interviews with game developers, along with our bench mark weekly podcast, Dialogue Wheel.
Andy Borkowski started this program nearly 10 years ago and, in that time, it has changed from a simple KZbin show, to a radio show, a tv show and now once again a KZbin destination. Welcome to VGS.

Ok here is a crazy theory. What if Odin has Imprisoned Tyr? Within the game, Mimir gives several examples of Odin doing whatever it takes to horde all knowledge for himself. And we know that Tyr traveled everywhere and probably gained a whole lot of knowledge. Thats why we haven't seen Tyr at all. I swear if this is revealed in God of War 5, I will flip out.
@jeremesmith9266
@jeremesmith9266 5 жыл бұрын
Gabriel Meyer part of me thinks Mimir is Tyr, who had some of his memories blocked off by Freya/Odin so he couldn’t remember his own identity. But he was imprisoned in a tree to be used as a knowledge resource for the Aesir whenever they needed.
@BrandonCassaday
@BrandonCassaday 5 жыл бұрын
Actually there is a Giant's mural in Tyr's Temple you find that shows Tyr chained at his ankles and his neck with Odin and Thor standing above him. I think your theory will be proven correct in the next game that Tyr IS alive and being held somewhere in Asgard parhaps in the lower area of Odin's palace.

@@jeremesmith9266 the most probable theory i could get behind. I mean the similarities are too great to miss. They are knowledgable about the world beyond their own. @@jeremesmith9266 also the way he he seems too close to kratos that he would address him as a brother ( both gods of war ). He also seem to be close to everyone despite being just a reference for a certain race of gods. Thor is supposed to die seconds after defeating the world serpent due to his venomous bite. Atreus is supposed to be Loki which means he fathered the world serpent and in the game when he's asking Kratos what powers he will have, he asks if he could turn into a wolf and Kratos tells him to surprise him ... what if he turns into the wolf that kills Odin in ragnarok? that's supposed to be another one of Loki's children but the game is different of course. Wild imaginations some people have. They've already said this God of War series isn't a quest for revenge, or Kratos repeating what he did to the Greek Pantheon. This isn't his story either -as the game says at the end. It's Atreus'. Kratos will likely die and stay dead based on the mural at the end of the game (Kratos appears to be laying dead in Atreus' lap with what looks like a rock, or hammer lodged in his skull), or play a side role as Atreus comes of age in the next two games. He's not ending the Norse Gods like the Greek Pantheon. I don't really understand the weird fetish some GoW fans have with that. It's makes for a poor story to just keep repeating the same thing over, and over again as well. As the developers have said.

6:25 dammmn when Atreus told Kratos "and you're good" you could feel the mixed great joy and guilt Kratos felt. This game is so beautiful, like wow, an excellent continuation to the series. Kratos is simply trying to teach his son better and be an example for him, but he must do so while overcoming/accepting all his past atrocities done. You could really understand, who am I to teach my son to be a good being if i did so many horrible things in my past? A question I'm sure many of us ask ourselves when struggling to improve ourselves. Cheers !

Do you think Kratos was thinking of his brother and how it could have been different when he saw how Brok and Sindri were getting along?
@justinvarghese6852
@justinvarghese6852 5 жыл бұрын
I don't think so. It's not the same. His brother was forcefully taken away from him right in front of his own eyes when Kratos and Deimos were only children. The only reason Deimos hated Kratos when he finally found him in Thanotos's realm is because he was trapped there for so long he believed his brother forgot about him and no one was coming to rescue. So it's kinda like "Oh now you show up to free me? After all these years I've been tortured by Thanotos? Well fuck you. It's too late!" And thus that was that. But they did reconcile briefly in the end, and fought Thanatos together, brother standing with brother once more. So before Deimos died, at least Kratos finally got forgiven by his brother and he died fighting alongside him.
@stalkerzackden3297
@stalkerzackden3297 4 жыл бұрын
But god damn is it sad The only time Kratos get to meet Deimos again was very brief. They fight and it ends up with Kratos surrendeting as he dosent want to hurt his brother. And even when they start fighting together, Diemos dies just after the battle against Thanatos

I love this whole sequence of events involving Tyr. It gives Kratos a real introspective of his own unimaginably bloody past as the God of War of his own pantheon, so brutal that legends of him spread across the world, even appearing in Tyr's collection and the Giants' monument. This game gives us so much closure for a man, now old, who was once plagued by so much rage that he can now barely feel it anymore, but still remembers all the pain it brought him.

Interesting that at 4:28 every treasure on that table is covered in cobwebs, but the wine has none on it and the vase only has 3 thin strands. This could imply that they have not been there long at all compared to everything else, and that Tyr returned with them not long prior to Kratos entering the Norse realm. Of course it's also possible that the developers just didn't want to animate 40,000 cobweb strands since Kratos needs to interact with the objects, lol, but still it stands out as odd to me.

You know, I've never thought of this, but perhaps Tyr saw what happened with the Greek God of War and decided that it would not be the end for his world. He decided he would be different and give peace a chance. Too bad Odin was evil. Perhaps this isn't a story of Kratos, but a story of Tyr's decisions and how Kratos is chosen by fate to be justice for Tyr. A god of war, who decided to give peace a chance despite his nature, was unjustly cut down because of evil. Only a greater more primal evil is needed to bring justice to that.

Having never played the uncharted games I don't know what you are referring to. That being said while a part of me is worried about Kratos dying (That is always a possibility in stories, films, or games and it makes things remain interesting) another part of me thinks if he does die it will be the same as his death in God of War 3. Its almost like Tyr designed his entire temple and its trials so that only Kratos could complete them. Kratos also seems to have the exact same principles as Tyr, he is well-traveled and knows of other pantheons just like Tyr, he held the exact same divine title as Tyr, he befriended the Giants just like Tyr, he married a Giant.... who believed enough in him enough to have a child with him and etch a series of events about the both of them onto a wall in her realm. Tyr either goes back in time to start the entire prophecy of Ragnarok, or Kratos somehow becomes Tyr himself. Tyr is even shown on a mural giving a talisman that represents day/night (Skoll/Hati) to the Greeks... which they sorely would've needed after Kratos killed Helios... they feud with Thor, Faye gifts Kratos an axe that can rival Mjolnir... and on and on. It would be a pretty Tyr thing to do, given the way Mimir describes him, to write a prophecy about Kratos for Faye ... especially given Kratos' hard stance against fate.

Is it just me or Týr's story felt wholesome? "The God of War... Who fought for peace instead." Kratos visibly felt different hearing those words.

tbh Tyr really is such an interesting character and i really wish i would have seen more of him, he’s literally the polar opposite of Kratos. Kratos inherited the role of being the God of War and was as vicious as gods themselves. He was full of rage, anger, and vengeance and he knew nothing but the art of war. Yet Tyr while being the God of War used his power for peace and spreading knowledge. He would also travel outside his own realm to seek other gods wisdom and knowledge kinda how Uncle Iroh went to other nations for wisdom and knowledge. Such an amazing character i hope he isn’t dead but if he is then what an amazing off screen character.

I don't think Tyr is Kratos, since in this game Kratos is known as Farbauti. In Norse mythology, Farbauti is the father of Loki and husband of Laufey. So I can't see 2 norse characters in one person.

@@acemarvel1564 that’s because giants aren’t actual giants, it’s what their race is called. The girl winking and smiling at the end of the god of war ragnarok is 1 of the last remaining giants. As the director explained later on. So it’s gonna be interesting since the claim in god of war 2018 was that tyr was dead and all the giants wiped out.
