To see Kratos look in shame, horror, fear, and sadness at the weaponry he used to kill his family is so powerful. To decide to risk becoming that same monster in order to save his son is beautiful. The brands on his arms begin to bleed, as if he is physically reacting to the permanent scar Ares left on him. This is truly one of the greatest shots in one of the greatest games ever made. There was so much thought and care and development that went into this part of the game. When Athena calls Kratos a monster, I love the response Kratos gives. “I know, but I am your monster no longer.” He regrets what he has done in the past, and it has made him despise his own strength and status as a god. But he also knows he cannot let it define him or stop him from protecting those important to him. Then he turns and walks through Athena’s mirage as if she is not there to face the present, because for once he knows his monstrous power will be used solely to keep those around him safe. There is nobody to get revenge on, nobody to serve. Just a father trying to safe his son by any means necessary.

The reason why when she said kratos was a monster made me cry is because kratos IS a monster. A monster isnt a horrific, blood thirsty creature. It is a being that attacks not only thier enemies, but thier own allies, family, and most impotant of all, themselves. Kratos knew full well that he was one, but when he said he wasnt athenas anymore, i just smiled because kratos wasnt controlled by anyone anymore. And that that he isnt trying to be a monster anymore. Redemption is the hardest path anyone, even God's can ever take. But seeing Kratos use those blades for a purpose far more important then himself, I know he can do it.

Actually if Zeus ever does return in this series I actually want it to be him and Kratos apologizing for BOTH of their misdeeds and making up because A, Zeus was only really bad after Pandora’s Box was opened, Athena was evil from the start, and B, this new chapter in the series is about facing, accepting and moving on from the past and Kratos and Zeus forgiving each other would be a PERFECT representation of that theme.

@@KingCasual1986 But Athena was supposed to be good. It is outlined that Athena was infected with greed, and that unlike the other gods, so was so good she was able to suppress it till Kratos killed her, at which point she enterted her astral form, which is literally a physical manifestation of that evil(As shown by That fear zeus at the end of god of 3), and disappears after fear is destroyed by hope(which is shown by zeus stopping his resistance, as he is suddenly hit with all the horrible stuff he has done since being infected, and just gives up). Athena in God of war(2018) and God of war 3 is evil because its not even really Athena anymore, rather its a combination of Athena and the evil of Greed.

The blades that killed his first family ended up saving his second family. The very weapon that was the herald of doom for one realm became the beacon of hope for another. That is some fantastic writing, a broken man digging up a tragic past and re-brandishing a foul heirloom that reminds him of horrific deeds from his past, an instrument that was the death of so many, including his own wife and daughter. Taking up such an unholy artifact again, not to *destroy* life, but to *defend* it. Incredible.

Mimir said that, not Atreus. The nickname you are looking for is Head.

I love how they incorporated thunder into this soundtrack. Brings it to a whole new level.

I love coming back and watching this every so often while I wait for a sequel to this masterpiece. When tweedle dee and tweedle dum come around, there is some cloud coverage/sparks in their attempt to assert a godly presence. In this, Kratos is just thinking about his past, and a massive storm surrounds him along with an ominous red cloud. Whew laddy I cannot wait for the next installment.

The irony is that while most players may love the beast, Kratos hates it.

What about Mimir? For the first time we see Kratos having a really emotional moment and Mimir just listens.. the "Sage" who never truly could shut up in the game witnessed a crucial point of character development. Props to all who were involved in this masterpiece.

This seals the deal for me, I'm buying it. It looks like they even kept the original combos

I was a new dad when playing this so the level of emotion can’t be described. Like Kratos I have gone from a self serving, win at any cost monster to a clueless, humbled man that would do anything to make sure I protect and love my son and show him a different path.

Agreed, this scene hits extra close to home if your a parent.

I really liked the music on this mission and all the red atmosphere. It was like krato's past of pain and death coming back along with the blades.
