Can You Beat Persona 5 Royal While Only Using The Girls?

Edit: So looking back at this after 2 years, I was definitely being lenient on whether this run is possible or not. The run is definitely impossible to beat with just the girls since you have moments like Joker only being able to fight Shido in the final phase or that one area in Niijima’s palace.

the confidant part is only the adults, each one has 3 decisions somewhere before rank 9 and you have to choose at least one of those during their confidants or they will reject you

I just cannot believe the megidoloan part, I saw it in the video but I would want further evidence, it’s so absurd that when he said the alternatives I was like “it’s definitely not going to be that one” I’m so much in disbelief I don’t know what to say anymore: is he pulling a big prank or is his game glitched? Does anyone else including the developers know about this? If the answer is no and yes then it must have some crazy crazy condition to activate.

When I played p5 for the first time, I repeatedly got game overs to her because she always landed Despair on either Joker when I had no healing items for statuses or both Makoto and Joker since she's the only one in the party that can heal Despair without items. And I got a game over due to Wakaba in the easy difficulty too. So when I found out Wakaba could use Megidolaon in the fight, I was mentally dying

you can actually use the ballista again, it just takes a while and maybe you have to be actively dealing damage. i had it happen to me on my normal playthrough, though the use of megidolan is news to me

The reflects occur on up to 3 scripted occasions (Nose Dive, plus both of the Sphinx "riddles" if answered correctly), while the ballista summons occur after the riddles. The first "riddle" occurs on the turn after the preemptive Nose Dive, while the second occurs if you bring her down to 25% HP while she's airborne after being downed once (or if you bring her below 25% while she's down the first time but don't manage to bring her to 1 HP before she gets up). After being downed the second time, Cognitive Wakaba stays down for longer than the first time, and it might even be possible that she cannot get back up beyond this point.

Before the Holy Grail, I was already at 98 with the whole party. (Trick, even though we can no longer exploit Reaper's flu despair: Reaper with solo Joker + Omnipotent Orb + Mishima max-rank skill - backup party members gets the same EXP as the active party - that means Joker each time gets full 72050 EXP, and by extension, ALL party members get full 72050 EXP each time.) // edit: oh, and Izanagi-no-Okami DLC Persona with Concentrate -> Myriad Truths sequence.

One thing to say: COFFEE. You can't use Joker, so literally just grind out Lovers and Hierophant confidant or whatever else will help provide benefits to the girls and brew coffee every night you can't do anything else helpful for the girls. SP will never be a problem if you have over 40 master coffee or even regular coffee. It becomes a joke lol it makes things super easy, making 1 day Palace runs very possible

I died to Maruki's Megidolaon, even though I just needed one more round! I later got an Endure skill, whcih have me the one more turn I needed. I think many SMT bosses use a buffed Megidolaon if you take too long to beat them.

An all girl team, which was just a coincidence, is how i beat merciless lavenza. Haru with ring of greed for setting up joker in phase 1, technicals in phase 2, crits in phase 3 and barriers if needed in phase 4 shes something of the mvp, kasumi for crits and baton passes to whoever needs it (but especially to haru on phase 2 so she can ring of greed herself for big technical hits) all fight but also phase 3 crit buff with brave step, makoto to buff defense and heal, with pulinpa ring to set technicals for phase 2 and joker to deal high damage in phase 1, support by buffing haru and debuffing lavenza with debilitate in phase 2, crits in phase 3 and wind damage in phase 4(she swaps between two personas and each have different resistance, though niether are resistant to wind. I used vishnu.) with a persona that has endure/soul in case you dont do enough and she uses her 1 shot, in phase 4 endure procs on it and youll live letting you finish the fight trivially. Of course, futaba taken to jazz club a bunch for the maximized chance of using abilities

I actually did it and recorded it in P3P for funzees, it was not too hard but I had fun. I also only used female personas because it makes more sense. I honestly want to do BOYS only in P4, since I feel it would be more challenging than girls only in P4 in particular

@@dogecoin9562 you've got Chie, who is around 2nd or 3rd in overall damage in the party not counting Yu, (I'm not really sure if her or Kanji do more, I'm guessing their damage is pretty close tho) you've got Yukiko, with her damage potential + support, and you've got Naoto, who is a mixed bag honestly. I've only played original P4 but I know how good her golden skillset is, but even in vanilla, she at least has okay damage against bosses + has hama and mudo for encounters. I wouldn't say for sure the girls put together are the #1 best together, but they are a strong setup, probably slightly better than just the boys since most of the boys' support skills can be handled by Yu so the girls would be fine without smelly boys. But hey, maybe when I do the run I'll find that I'm wrong, and the boys put together would outclass the girls + Yu, either way I'll be having fun so not complaining

I would say the opposite. In 4, an all girls party is much harder than an all boys party. Particularly because of Chie. She has a really low defense for a physical character in a game where physical skills cost hp. And Naoto lacks Amp skills is harms her usefulness as a mage.

@@Watermage2 I see what you mean, but while Chie may have low defence but she has good phys damage, especially at endgame. Chie wouldn't really be that useful early or mid game but she could just throw items or give Tarukajas to Yu or Yuki instead, so I feel you'd be fine even with Chie. Honestly the only thing making the game more challenging would be lack of 4 people in the party for a long time, but hey, this channel is living proof that the game can be solo'ed so I imagine both boys only or girls only would be manageable. I mostly care more about how fun a challenge run of these games will be more than how hard they will be, and since I did a girls only run of P3, and in my P5R challenge runs I had the girls as my main party, since they bounce well off each other. So most of the "challenge" in my eventual P4 boys only run is getting used to switching things up. I might do girls only after that just to see how different it is though

Rewatching this, I realized there was an easier way of dealing with Maruki. Haru could use her 3rd awakening skill, Life Wall, and reflect his Raining Seeds ability back at Maruki and Azathoth since reflect damage does not get reduced by the tentacles.

I think Joker needs to attack in order for the ballista to work. Every other time you described that the ballista didn't work, Joker was not allowed to do anything. But when you finally desided to let him attack, the ballista worked.

Question, if you allow DLCs, then why don't you use the DLC accessories to help Ann especially through the early Palaces, like the Adhesive Accessory, and maybe one of the DLC ones also give Endure which might help Ann's survivability. Edit: okay, so there's none that give Ann Endure, but there are those that give her evasion against crits and magic. Hm... And... I admit i thought when it's Girls Only, it also means that you only do the Female confidants (i.e. no Ryuji and his Ambush)

Physical drains your hp (even with me being at max HP), physical isn't as effective as using an enemy's weakness, physical is pretty easy and common for an enemy to reflect back at you. And although the only real point to use physical is to knock a shadow down, but as I said before, it can get reflected to you and knock down a teammate, letting the shadows get a one-more. The only physical attacks I used were the Lucky Lunch variations and maybe the severe or collosal physical damage attacks every once in a while if someone didn't have a beneficial element or if the shadow didn't have any weaknesses, because the game thinks that having no weaknesses equals fun difficulty, when all it does is waste your time. Sometimes it isn't worth using magic or losing HP I'd just default attack. I'd really like to hear what benefits physical has over magic. Oh, and even with knocking a shadow with physical, hitting their weakness will knock them anyway. Physical is just a fallback for when you don't have a certain magic type

Could have made it interesting if you wanted to use 3 girls, by having all 3 on Act Freely, so you are at the mercy of the AI, but you would have had more firepower for Yaldabaoth and Maruki. I started commenting to myself throughout the every encounter with Maruki in the entire third semester about how similar he was to Yaldabaoth, even expecting a return of the God of Control. I agree Maruki is a bit of a try hard, story wise, he felt like the writers were almost copying Yaldabaoth's idealism, having someone control the general public for their own selfish reasons. Yaldabaoth believing humanity is flawed and incapable of changing fate, while Maruki wants to make people happy by forcing them to live a false life just to avoid pain. Hell, both were even defeated by a bullet to the head scripted event.

The Waka thing might be similar to the Velvet Twins/Lavenza Bossfights If you haven't dealt a certain amount of damage at a certain trigger, your party gets one shot. I don't understand the purpose behind doing it in the Wakaba fight, but she clearly can't use an AOT like the blue girls

towards like the final half of the game my team was literally joker, makoto, ann, and haru. It worked surprisingly well for a while, and the only reason i changed it for the final 2 bosses (final 2 for royal) was because i kinda needed ryuji’s physical attacks

I purchased P5s Last year and didn’t try it yet (got distracted by work, universal and Pokemon masters EX/Brilliant Diamond) I’m glad I didn’t need to pay attention to every member but are persona bonds with some males important ? and do I need specific shadows for the endgame cause I personally want to keep using Arsane and Carmine.

All confidants are important in their own ways. For a run like this you don’t have to do all of them. As for endgame, their are some pretty OP personas like Yoshitsune and such. A persona like Arsene was not made for endgame, but it’s still doable if you know how to make your Arsene op. There are people that have beaten the game with only Arsene, and even someone did an Arsene and Joker only.

The ballista not going twice is a royal thing. Makes the fight much more difficult since it was pretty easy before since you literally just had to stall. I have no clue why it went again. its not supposed to. you broke it congratulations 👍

I know this video is a year old but my god, Wakaba makes zero sense. I was stuck on her on my original playthrough for too long All of the guides were talking about multiple Balista's, her spamming Dispair moves, Futaba supporting. And *none* of that happened for me. Even after emptying all of my bullets (that's apparently a requirement) After 3 runs of "just block and wait for the second Balista" and getting Megi'd to death. I decided to say fuck it and just swing until she died (emptying my bullets straight away). After I got Wakaba to around 10-15% HP and like 20 turns. Only then the second Balista spawned. I really don't understand her boss fight...

Right so I had something similar happen to me with maruki where after a while he ended up using megidoan and my freind told me that he apparently does that after around 50 turns so maybe other bosses have that feature cause when I saw the megidoan answer I immediately thought of that so it might be a thing to kill u off if your just rushing the bosses

a megidolaon that is just scripted to one shot you is not uncommon in bosses in megaten games when you take too long or fail some other condition in the fight

Apparently, Cognitive Wakaba Isshiki uses Megidolaon if she manages to have 100 actions during the boss fight, and after that, she will spam Megidolaon until you die. It's kinda funny that the Sphinx literally casts the equivalent of instadeath on you because you take too long.

Here's a modded twist on this run: Joker is allowed thanks to the P5R Female Protagonist mod. However, to compensate for the advantages this provides: only 1 additional party member is allowed to act/be deployed in most fights (instead of 2 in this run), Joker herself may only use Pixie when possible, and DLC/Gift content is banned (with the possible exception of cosmetic-only costumes and battle BGM). Skill Cards are allowed, but Velvet Room access is at runner discretion. The run starts with Joker's awakening; however, Morgana is given a free pass up until Ann's awakening due to having forced actions in multiple tutorial battles...and most likely being necessary for healing in the battle *after* the scripted defeat against the Bicorn bunch.

Here are a few Tipps you could have done to make the run more optimal. Both of those tricks also mean you should delay doing Futaba’s palace until near the end of the month. The Wakaba fight can easily be cheesed by just spamming the tertakarn spell. Which can be bought at Takemi’s as a consumable once you max out her confidant. You can unlock this once you get charm 4 and do the mementos request during the moth where Futaba’s palace would be done. You should try to speed run the Justice confidant, since at rank 4 it unlocks the Jazz club. Not just is it a great idea for a date but the extra stats and moves really help any run where you focus more on specific teammates to do the heavy lifting
