Thanks Archie. I think maybe it's because my father never explained anything when I was kid and now I'm making up for it. 😛

Your tutorials are amazing. Thanks for revealing all the stuff it must have taken years to discover. I've been using InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator daily for decades so all the comparisons you make are helpful. When I opened Premiere Pro for the first time last year I was shocked by the learning curve! Your "Start Here" series saved me from throwing my computer out the window. Now I'm taking on After Effects and can't wait to see what you have in store.

Thanks so much. One thing about age, it's just a number. I'm 59 and I am the happiest and most excited about living and being creative as I ever have been in my life. Look forward to an amazing life ahead of you buddy. 😜

Can Premiere Pro remember the number of points on different keyframes when using gaussian blur? For example on one keyframe 1 would like to have 4 points, on another keyframe 6 points. Thanks!
@VideoRevealed2 жыл бұрын
No. Premiere Pro keeps the points constant so adding points at any time also effects any other keyframes.

Great tutorial! With all the features Premiere is getting, I find myself doing most compositing work there, going to Ae only for heavy duty stuff. Though a simple default behavior in Pr masks makes me wonder. Why the default size of rectangle mask is a tiny portion of the clip? Each and every time I have to manually zoom out the frame, and resize the mask to the clip size. In Ae, double clicking the rectangle, makes a mask based on the layer size. That and no intersections in masks just as you showed.
@VideoRevealed4 жыл бұрын
100% agree with you. I have no idea why this is the default.

Not sure if they included the roto brush yet in PP CC ... Aug 2016 version... that would really be a plus for some uses
@VideoRevealed8 жыл бұрын
Agreed but the problem is, Premiere Pro would move from a super fast editing application to a "must-render" slow application when you apply that effect.
@puddytat628 жыл бұрын
what about the almighty GPU taking some of that load. I guess only for rendering not for live roto scoping.
@VideoRevealed8 жыл бұрын
Correct, roto is 100% CPU.
@puddytat628 жыл бұрын
But as you point out. AE is so much more elegant to work with on masking and roto and so easy to flip back and forth. No biggie.

Great stuff Colin !!! If you had to choose ONE, which would you choose? I need to minimize cost and maximize capability. I'm doing video but what I see in this video is that AfterEffects is so much more capable. If you were forced to choose either AE or PR which woukd you choose, Finally, is there ANYTHING AE can't do that PR can? Thanks Colin, timbgreen
@VideoRevealed6 жыл бұрын
They are completely different workflows. Premiere Pro is an editing program and After Effects is for motion graphics, visual effects and compositing. Yes you can edit in After Effects, but it would take 100 times longer and be a huge pain for many many reasons. A big reason is, After Effects is not real time, so you'd have to render every single time you wanted to watch something playback. Premiere Pro can do simple compositing but it's no where near as powerful as After Effects. Instead of choosing an application, pick a workflow. If you want to do video editing, then it's Premiere Pro; if you want visual effects, motions graphics or compositing, that's After Effects.

I'd like to know if I can mask any effect in After Effects just like in Premiere Pro?
@VideoRevealed5 жыл бұрын
Oh yeah, way better than Premiere Pro! Twirl open the layer until you see the effect name. Keep twirling until you see Compositing Options. That's where you can add unlimited masks just for that effect. Plus, you can set "mask modes", meaning one mask adds the effect, and another subtracts the mode. Lastly, the mask tracker in After Effects actually works, unlike the one in Premiere Pro that fails all the time.
@EnaVerse4 жыл бұрын
I have a question, I was masking in premiere and I was masking frame by frame, it was tedious but every time I would go to delete a point in the mask, it would delete it for the previous keypoints and mess up the entire masking sequence. I was wondering if it was the same way in after effects?
@VideoRevealed4 жыл бұрын
After Effects has a preference to allow adding and removing points in masks.

Ultimately which package is all encompassing, i.e. should I just use AE rather than both??
@VideoRevealed7 жыл бұрын
Each application has it's strengths. You'd never use After Effects as an editing program and you'd never use Premiere Pro for high-end visual effects. Most people will use Premiere Pro as the editing tool and After Effects for anything Premiere Pro can't do.

I agree with commenter Scott Bringe, your tutorials ARE amazing. I was wondering if you could do a tutorial on "Occlusion Masking" in After Effect CC (i.e., Billboard replacement with an object, such as people and/or vehicles, passing over it). Or, let's take the car in this tutorial. Let's say you wanted to place a sign in front of the car and the car passes the sign. I would really appreciate it. I am not a subscriber. Thank you so much for your knowledge and sharing it.

You can't export but you can copy and paste. Select the clip(s) you want to copy from the Timeline in Premiere Pro and create a new Comp in After Effects and paste.

Спасибо за урок. Может Adobe прислушается к Вам и сделает наконец-то нормальную работу с масками в Premiere. Это сэкономило бы массу времени. А представляете как неудобно работать с Lumetri Color в Premiere, если задействовать несколько масок?

Hate to bother but can anyone help me with this issue . for some reason when i render with gpu it takes forever , the load on the gpu is not constant it spikes up and down. however if i switch back to software (cpu) rendering option the load is constand and relatively fast here is a screen shot of gpu load . it was differently a while ago pp.vk.me/c636329/v636329821/2ac8b/ROODX8Azxxw.jpg
@VideoRevealed8 жыл бұрын
GPU usage can't be compared to what you see with CPU usage. You only have two options, turn it on or turn it off and if it's faster then that's great, if it isn't there isn't a setting to change to make it faster.
@Vova3iLvova8 жыл бұрын
