Outstanding teaching tool! As long as his folks sharing his video doesn’t distract from the speaker.

Somewhat off topic but can you provide a good resource that explains ball spoting for HS basketball? Specifically, with regard to placement after timeouts, and any rules for moving the spot upon request. Thanks At a game last night and timeout was called in front court, far corner, opposite bench and outside trapezoid, but coach that called timeout got ref to spot ball on end line closeset to their bench; essentially creating a baseline inbound play under the basket vs a sideline inbound play on side opposite the bench.

Would love to see the game film on that as it’s not as common as one may think. We’re working on a video reviewing the new throw in spots. But in lieu of that, a timeout stoping live play, would be resumed at the 3 ft mark or 28 ft mark depending on which side of the dividing line it is on in the corner.

38:00 - a team may change, without penalty, a designated starter who has illegal apparel: 3-2-2a: Changing a designated starter, unless necessitated by illness, injury, illegal equipment or apparel, etc., or to attempt a technical foul free throw.

Great pickup. This is 100% correct. Thanks!

Question on throw-in… Last night at my daughter’s game, the throw-in was at the end-line. The ball is thrown in over everyone’s head into the back-court, point guard receives it, brings the ball up the court, trail official blows the play dead for back-court violation. Lead official tells the trail that the throw-in wasn’t a violation and the new throw-in spot is at half-court. Is that correct? (Currently a spectator, soon to be an official)

Depends where the ball was when the whistle was blown.

FYI,,, so I am 18+ minutes into the POS on the out of bounds/violations throw in's, but you never discussed back court violation(s) throw in for the new offense in their front court throw in.
@OfficialsInstitute11 ай бұрын
Yeah, we didn't touch on that. Not sure why. Any backcourt violation happens in the backcourt, therefore the new throw in would be in the front court of the throw in team and at one of the four designated spots.

Front court or backcourt and then is it out of bounds if not then it is one of four spots.

You have awesome content! I subscribed to your channel because my son got hit at least 25 times in a game yesterday so I figured I would learn the rules so I could be educated about what is and what isn’t a foul. I would love it if you would review a short on my channel and give me your opinion of the no-calls with your expertise? I think he gets fouls twice on one play and an armbar on the other based on what I’ve found so far.

Come on Josh! I watched all of this to hear the bench decorum info! You owe us another video....great content otherwise though. I enjoy these videos.

I know, I know. We ran out of time. I didn't expect such a dialogue around uniforms and apparel. I'll definitely put another one together solely on Bench Decorum.

@@OfficialsInstitute if you cover bench decorum, can you include a segment on coach / ref communication during games. Earlier this year you covered technical fouls stemming from coach interactions, but was wondering if you could include some guidance on what is acceptable for coach to communicate to ref about during games, including topics, approaching ref, inquiries vs. statements, comments or complaints, etc. Thanks Your content is being viewed by coaches as well as refs as I am sure you are aware.

The problem regarding uniforms is that most officials do not like to enforce the rule in middle, freshman, sophomore and/or JV games…. I have had games where I am the bad guy, just for requiring players to dress appropriately, requiring uniformity as close to the rules at levels other than VARSITY should be the ideal for every basketball official... totally the rules of NFHS do not specify that they apply only to VARSITY…
