A binder is something that pretty much hides your chest so if you're trans or nonbinary it's pretty much the only way to get a flat chest without an operation. For most trans-/nonbinary people this is a huge relief and can help ease dysphoria and generally makes someone happy. (I just copied it from my comment a bit further down. c: )

@@sidthamunkayone4819 Lucky you. Unfortunately, low self-esteem and shame about physical appearance does not come from a mirror. It comes from external "feedback" from people. A mirror is just a tool. Our perceptions in our minds is what feeds such behaviour and avoiding use of mirrors does nothing to solve the root cause of the problem. And figuring out the root cause of some problems might not be very straightforward. As humans, I believe we have a very poor grasp of data and consequently, a poor understanding of causation (which leads to biases, logical fallacies such as conflating correlation and causation). It is so poor in my opinion, that even relatively data driven things like business decisions are poorly understood and undertaken. So trying to figure out root causes for personal problems is quite a lot harder and prone to errors (especially since they are also likely very personal in nature and trigger emotional responses). I'm speaking from personal experience, introspection, my own research on such matters and my logical reasoning process. I'm no expert. But frankly, who is? The definition of expert is subjective and arbitrary.

@@jediknightnamek oh. Have you not used a mirror or looked at any photos / videos of yourself for many years? Have you heard of ' Mirror fasting '? In my experience... When i did use a mirror and people had bad things to say about me ( pizza face , four eyes ' nerd etc ) I would look in the mirror and taunt myself for being these ' things '. After i stopped using a mirror.. at about the 3 year stage. People would still say things about my appearance but the self loathing was gone. The best way i can describe it to anyone is this : It is like taking the ' blinders ' off of a horse after it has had them on for half its life time. I can tell you 100% that mirrors make things far worse.
