Great sportsmanship from Indian players. No easy draws as between Soviet players back in the olden days.

Yeah. Because there are only dozens of fighting games between soviet players from the Candidates.

Simply too early for that tactic. But with 3 Indians there could be some "team play" later.

I don't understand the comment at 13:27 "The Queen can't move". What's wrong with Qc6?
@jozefserf20247 ай бұрын
Maybe because after pxB Qxd5 black's position is lost after Qxb4? Nxp drops g6 but all this was hard to see.

Yes the queen can move to c6 - I rather glossed over that: 21...Qc6 22 cxd5 Qxd5 23 Rxa6 is too strong. Likewise 22...Nxd5 23 e7+ Rd7 24 Rfc1 Qb7 25 Nc4 with a lethal attack.

Wow! Playing the King's Gambit with color reverse? That seems like a really wild and fun (or wild and horrible) defence for patzers like myself to play! I cannot believe they play this kind of games in the candidates, in a positive way. No matter the outcome of this cycle, it's clear the new generation has finally landed. Thanks for your videos!

I remember Vic Knox (from Manchester, and used to write an excellent weekly chess column for the evening paper) used to play the Schliemann to good effect on the UK chess weekend circuit in the 70s. But so tricky to play at that level. By the way, I noticed that Fabi played 3...Nf6 against the Rossolimo - good to know he watches your channel!

@robinesperoza7 ай бұрын
Thanks! I saw an interview with Gamesh were they said that Pragg end goals was to be world champion, but rather parodicly the way to get there was focus on learning, rather than results. I have the feeling this takes some of the pressure away of Pragg. If the goal is to learn is harder to lose. This sounds cheesy, I know, but, the courage does show.
@synchronium247 ай бұрын
Interestingly, at higher depth Stockfish prefers neither 9. Nxf5 nor 0-0 (where Danny showed the bishop-trapping trick), but Nc3. That would be a very odd move to find over the board with pawns hanging for both sides.
@horrortackleharry7 ай бұрын
15:20 Not only did Vidit miss Nd5 (easy to do), he played the positively horrible h4. As soon as I saw it I thought this makes no sense at all when the black king is on the Q side. And indeed it was the 'hook' black used a little later when he marched his g pawn down the board to win the game.
@robinesperoza7 ай бұрын
I felt the same, I just don't understand the move. Probably there are upsides and good reasons to play h4 also. I feel I misunderstand a concept here. (Some concrete reasons)
@horrortackleharry7 ай бұрын
@@robinesperoza Sounds like he was in time pressure and had to just make a move. If he could have 'passed' and given a tempo to Prag it would have been better than h4.

Is there any such thing as a dubious opening anymore? Super GMs actively going in for them because of 20 move deep opening prep with computers. This candidates has been excellent so far.
@PowerPlayChess7 ай бұрын
It's all relative. In any case, if Pragg had been whacked (and it was close) then we'd all be condemning his poor opening choice :) Safe to say he won't be repeating it in Toronto. I think he picked his man: I think we are seeing that Vidit isn't so agile in these wild positions.
