Although this is a straight ahead blues, the power that Trane & Co. exude is classic. I had the good fortune to see Trane in a double bill w/ Ornette at The Village Theatre (later to become the Fillmore East). For this 18 year olde, the exhilaration felt by the sold-out audience was transformative. Someone from the audience actually went on stage while Alice was soloing; tried to touch Trane's soprano. Trane lightly placed his hand on the visitor's shoulder and peacefully walked him off the stage. Whoa!! A night to remember!!

The late Ed Beach would call this 'a stomper.' Gutbucket....Trane here is soul personified.

I would like to know if anyone knows if Donald “Rafael”Garrett is playing Bass on this tune?I had the good fortune to play with Mr.Garrett in SF with Hart McNee on Reeds and Suzanne playing Piano around 1973?Rafael had a huge sound and played reeds as well..He made Bamboo Flutes as I recall and he gave me a conch shell that he used while playing with Coltrane on “Live in Seattle”and other Recordings on the Impulse label…We actually recorded at The Wally Heider Studios on Hyde street through the Generosity of Luis Gaska..Talked to Suzanne once trying to ascertain if she had any of the recordings which I believe were in her collection…any info would be greatly appreciated..Rafael was very kind to me and we would pick up Roland Kirk at the SF Airport occasionally..

This is so amazing! I made my own pitch-corrected version of this and can't stop listening to it.

Would you be willing to send the pitch-corrected version to a fellow Trane lover?

Same here… two versions, actually on that compilation. An earlier, scrappier (no disrespect intended) version w different personel and a very realized version w the great quintet… actually something of a masterpiece

Fantastic live recording of Coltrane's band playing at the Sutherland Hotel in Chicago! Sound quality is not great, but crowd noise adds to the excitement of hearing this historic set.
